The food was good and the service was good as well. We went here because it was close. I’m glad to say it was a good experience. We started off with cheese dip and salsa. The cheese dip was real cheese and not terribly hot. We are lightweights when it comes to hot stuff, so this was perfect. The salsa was good as well. For those of us who notice, I did not taste any cilantro. For dinner I ordered a combination platter of one chicken burrito and one beef burrito, smothered in their cheese dip. Unfortunately what I got was two chicken burritos. The waiter was very helpful and pleasant, and brought me a new plate with the correct order. The meat was certainly NOT spicy. Without the additional cheese sauce and some salsa, even a lightweight like me would be disappointed. The chicken was even a little dry. My dinner partner had one of their versions of fajitas — included shrimp and steak. Her plate was huge, and the adds were plentiful. Her meat was nicely spiced, and very tender. She took quite a bit home. The atmosphere is not fancy, and there is a small bar area near the front door. They have TV’s in every direction with the sound turned down. They also have a smoking section in the back.(I didn’t realize they could still do that.) Parking is limited but easy to access. The servers were efficient, and the food was served quickly. I would recommend this place for simple Mexican-American food. No fuss. No muss.

I love this plqce. Ive never had bad food here. The people are nice… But they do keep a short staff. If you’re looking for a lot of attention you will be disappointed. I usy get carry out and i never have to wait long. The food is delicious and not over priced. If you are dining in and are sensitive to cigarettes go somewhere else.

I went here for a team lunch and thought it was ok. Nothing special. I got the Chimichanga lunch special with chicken. The chicken was pretty dried out and the tortilla was tough and hard to chew. The rice and beans were pretty bland. The margaritas looked pretty good and it was cheap, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Have been going here forever. A «Must go to place» When my kids come home from out of the state. Always see someone I haven’t seen in a while there. Everyone is friendly. I have never left there hungry. When I get carry out it is always fresh and hot. The order is always right. They don’t hesitate to get you what you want. My family always enjoy the food.

This was some of the worst Tex Mex I have ever had. I grew up in Southern California, where they have some of the best Mexican food. Texas I have found some out standing Mexican food too.

I had hopes for this as our hotel receptionist recommended it from the long list of restaurants possible in the area. Being from Texas, we have had good, bad, and in between Mexican food. This is definitely some of the most disappointing Mexican food we have ever experienced. The location is VERY small, no room for waiting for a table at all; the staff is woefully understaffed and took over 7 minutes before I could even put my name on a list to be seated. There is a smoking section in the back but the smell is not separated at all so you can definitely smell cigarette smoke even in the non-smoking section. The air was musty and warm – it’s like the a/c was not on. The restaurant overall felt very grimy and sticky. Service was very slow due to the crowded restaurant. For the food and drinks – margaritas were ok, but nothing extraordinary. The chips are ok though needed salt. Salsa was fresh. Green sauce was pretty spicy but a nice kick. Meals ordered: fajita burrito, special plate(think a sampling of all their items – enchilada, taco, tamale, chalupa, guacamole, chile relleno, etc.), fajitas for two, and a guacamole salad. Verdict: the fajita beef is sliced thin(different than most tex-mex but that didn’t bother me too much… the under seasoning of the meat was very disappointing though). Special plate was quite awful – under seasoned or overly spicy. The red sauce on the enchilada tasted like an Italian sauce(tomato sauce with parmesan in it). Guacamole was ok, but very underwhelming. Overall, very disappointed that we spent $ 75 on a meal for our family and received such poor service and food quality. Would not recommend.

I had dinner here with two friends on a Wednesday night. Not very busy which made it nice. I’ve eaten here before with good results. I love the flavors and the portions. Service is satisfactory and the portions are generous. I ended up taking part of my meal home for lunch the next day. Quiet, casual ambience.

My husband and I just love this place! New to the area from Cali we were looking for a good Mexican Food Restaurant. El Maguey is just around the corner! We are in heaven! We dine in and order take out several times a week. The BEST! :)

I enjoy the convenience of the location. Right by my house is all the guacamole that my little heart desires! I would never EVER want to forget about the margaritas… Yummy! Quick hot meal and a drink, what else could I ask for?

I was kind of scared that this place wouldn’t be so great, based on it’s outside appearance. I was pleasantly surprised! Service was great and I honestly think this is the best place that I’ve ever had enchiladas at! I’m typically not a fan of enchiladas unless I make them myself… But these were delicious! I’ll definitely come here whenever I’m in the area again!

I simply love Mexican food. The portions here are large enough for me to ask for a to go box when I place my order. Sometimes, I can eat it all, but then I’m miserable for a couple hours. Their red enchilada sauce is the best, by far, in this town. The chili relleno is soupy and super greasy, but their beef nachos are outstanding. I will definitely be back for more!

Great portions, good taste, good prices. The service was a little slow, but the atmosphere was nice and we didn’t have any real complaints. We will go back here again.

Dumpy place looks like a throwback to a previous decade, zero ambiance, but surprisingly good food. Nothing really ambitious, the usual tacos & enchiladas & combo plates, but everything is beautifully prepared in generous portions. My chicken quesadilla had the most tender, delicious shredded chicken that I can recall putting in my mouth… just awesome. The fried ice cream dessert was loaded with honey, and so large it was almost too much even though I was splitting it with The Guy. Definitely worth a return trip.

When putting in my review for El Maguey in Lee’s Summit, I saw that there was one in Raytown nearby my apartment. We had a good experience at the other location, so figured we’d try this one. The wait staff was significantly slower here. The waiter barely said a word to us. We barely got any drink refills. We got the cheese sauce, which I thought was okay, but not quite as good as Lee’s Summit. I got what I had in Lee’s Summit, the vegetarian meal with a cheese enchilada, a bean burrito, and a cheese quesadilla, asking for the cheese sauce instead of the mole to cover it. It was good. I liked my meal. My fiancée said the rice and cheese sauce was better at Lee’s Summit. She liked her meal as well. I just don’t remember what she had. Sorry. So, in our humble opinions, Lee’s Summit has the better cheese sauce and better rice and better service. El Maguey in Raytown was not a terrible experience. We just had a better experience in Lee’s Summit.

Love this place. It needs a little make over in the inside but don’t let that turn you away. The food is good and really cheap in a good way. I can get a meal here for the same are even less then McD and enjoy every bite. A must try if your in Raytown.

Yummmmmmmmmmmm! This was my first trip to El Maguey & I was in heaven with the salsa & chips brought to us first and foremost. We ordered some queso of course. can’t go to a Mexican restaurant &NOT order queso! It was good but a little watery for me but had good taste. Chips were amazing, fresh & of course fried in the kitchen before being brought to your table. Salsa was very good and clearly made with fresh ingredients. My hubby & I ordered the chicken fajita’s for two. It’s hard to mess up fajita’s I’d say but of course it came out in a sizzling skillet which sung a tune to my stomach unlike any other. Only complaint I have is please give us more than 3 little tortilla’s! Maybe it helps my gluttony habits but I’d eaten 4 if I had the tortilla. My friend has the burrito supreme which was HUGE& she covered it in queso opposed to the red sauce. She loved it & it made me want one. Also– I DID order a piña colada but I was disappointed… the taste was spot on but clearly there was only a drop of tequila in my drink. =(I should of just ordered a virgin piña colada honestly. $ 5 for a virgin drink didn’t make me happy at all. I’ll definitely go back if I get the chance! I actually want to go RIGHTNOW… Of utmost importance: Staff: Very friendly Food: Very Good Service: Good Attentiveness: Good Décor & Ambiance: Decent — what you would expect at any Mexican restaurant. Prices: Very fair Location: Okay 2nd trip– salsa was sooooooo disappointing! As well as the guacamole but maybe the person making it tonight. Just didn’t take fresh! Sad when I would prefer chipotles guacamole! This time I ordered the fajitas rancheros! Of course delicious. They gave me a heaping amount of veggies including mushrooms, green pepper, tomatoes, onion with a plate of rice/guac/sour cream/pico/lettuce an refried beans with mozzarella atop. Yummy!!! Oh &3 little tortillas. This time I won’t complain because I still feel like I could burst at the seams after 3! Watching my figure ;) lol! Hubby ordered the quesadilla fajita which looked tasty. Basically was a fajita & lots of cheese on a tortilla folded in half & grilled. He liked it! Love the hospitality of the servers & staff still!

Went here the other day with two of my homegirls… they recommended it, and I really loved it! Ambiance: Nondescript, it’s your typical Mexican restaurant. However it’s clean from the outside as you walk in, and clean inside. Service: We were seated almost immediately when we came at lunchtime. Servers are bilingual and pleasant. Don’t expect a lot of smiles — I don’t smile much myself so I don’t care — but they are pleasant. Inside, the décor is nice and clean — but I won’t lie, I was hungry so it’s not like I was paying this place super attention! FOOD!!! — Cause that’s what we Unilocal about! Chips and Salsa: Yo this salsa was thugnificent! I loved it. You will love it! It’s fresh and juicy. Shrimp Chimichanga: Covered in cream — this was totally delicious. It’s really stuffed with shrimp and nothing else though. Tamale: I won’t lie, I am not a pork fan but I will eff up a tamale! This tamale was delicioso! I loved it! What you will really like about this place are the drink portions. I swore my soda — cause I chose orange soda — was like 32 oz. That’s like 4 servings in one. And it was ICECOLD! LOVEDIT. My friends’ food was delicious too — but that’s what my eyes told me. I was stuffed after I ate my food and really just wanted to lay naked in a cool breeze and chill after.

I refer to this place as el moggers. They are a chain and not much different from any other template Mexican place. I eat there all the time because they are super nice and fast. They actually still allow smoking… I’m anti smoking but get a kick outta the fact that this place still has a smoking section. If you like hot salsa, ask for it. I’ll mix the hot and mild together for the best results.

If you Like Mexican food that is middle of the road, not at all daring and definitely predictable, El Maguey will probably fit you to a tee. But if you LOVE Mexican food — please don’t expect to be dazzled at El Maguey. We have, over a period of a few years, been to the location on Noland Road 2 or 3 times with different friends who raved about the food and told us what they loved best. Hubby and I would try their suggestions when we ordered but mostly enjoyed the company we were with and privately thought the food was run-of-the-mill and a step above eating at Taco Bell. Then Raytown got it’s own El Maguey and a couple of months after it opened, we invited some of the family to dine with us there. Hey, hope springs eternal that a different cook, a different location may make the food more exciting. But unfortunately that didn’t work out to be the case. We each ordered slightly different combo plates but found out from tasting around the table that everything at El Maguey tastes pretty much the same as every other thing, no matter what it is! For my taste buds sake, we swore off El Maguey and have not been back. That’s not to say that they immediately closed for lack of our business. I pass by there several times a week and it seems they are drawing in crowds at lunch and a respectable dinner clientele. But it is not for me. I will spend my time and my dollars at some of the other very good to down-right-exciting Mexican food places here in the K. C. area.
