Nick was the nicest waiter, suggested the tuna sashimi, which was AWESOME!!!

High quality food and excellent service… Really deserve five stars, but don’t want my review filtered. Rancho Valencia right up the road is no better than Sushi in the Ranch. I’m not a sushi junkie or expert, but I know fresh fish from rancid, and you’ll get as good here(or better) as anywhere I’ve tried in San Diego, including Fish Market, Pelly’s, BlueFin, or Nara. Seaweed salad, cucumber salad, steak, and dessert was also four to five star. It’s off the beaten path for most, but a nice intimate serene indoor or outdoor dinner experience.

Wonderfully clean, sleek, attractive sushi bar in RSF. My friend and I enjoyed lunch here on Thursday, July 18th. Chad was our sushi chef as we sat at the bar. He was friendly, made helpful suggestions and hooked us up on a fine«50÷50» roll. I ordered Ikura a la carte and it was delicious. My friend ordered fried tofu and it was also tasty, lightly flavored and refined. Everything we ordered was classically delicious. Special thanks to Chad for his fine service AND kudos on the superb sushi. We’ll be back.

I’ve had the pleasure of eating at Sushi in the Ranch several times now and the experience is always great… incredibly fresh sushi, great service and a nice atmosphere. I only wish I lived in SoCal again so I can go more often.

This place is amazing! I had the Brittany roll, and it was super tasty. It came with some sort of dipping sauce. It was a little spicy, which I was all about. For desert I the crème filled churro with white chocolate gelato. Holy cow was it good! The portions were pretty good; I couldn’t finish my desert even though I really wanted to. Service was very good, the waiter was friendly and quick with the refills. The wait time on the food was pretty short. All in all a very good experience, I will definitely be back for more yummy sushi!

oh how i wish everything about this place matched the deliciousness of the deserts served here, especially the chocolate lava cake. unfortunately waiting for long periods of time for service, food, drinks all somehow served at incongruent times doesn’t really make for an enjoyable evening, especially with children — even very patient and well mannered ones. noticed a huge decline in the last year, hopefully they will improve. décor and location are fine, food is mediocre, but it really comes down to the service that takes it over the edge.

Food was fine, pricey but matches area. Service was bad. Our server was unfriendly and kind of slow. We waited a few months before returning, and had a better server, but still nothing so special that we will return. We would rather drive to PQ or RB for sushi and have a more enjoyable meal.

What a hidden treasure! Had a great experience with friends at Sushi in the Ranch recently. General Manager Brittany was cordial and very accommodating for the birthday celebration and tucked us into a nice private little nook. The service was excellent and the food, outstanding! Delicious garlic braised edemame, pot stickers so good we re-ordered twice, special friend rice, crunch roll and the famous«brittany roll». Special note there were a few celebrities in the house that night. The staff made sure they were guarded and protected from interruption during dinner so the privacy factor at this venue is a real plus! Craving it and gong back for more next week! PERFECT for a private dinner or small celebrations.

I ordered about 5 rolls to go from Sushi in the Ranch. I ordered a couple california rolls, an El Jefe Roll and an El Padrino Roll. It wasn’t the best sushi that I’ve had but it was decent. It was a little bit overpriced but I’m not surprised because of the location.

I was taking one of my little buddies out to lunch and he requested this place. Why a 7 year old wants to go to a sushi place for Mac and cheese is beyond me, but I digress. Contrary to previous reports of poor service, we had a wonderful experience. The kiddo got some kid chopsticks(mostly used to pick up non food items but at least entertaining) and a kid-pack of stuff to keep him busy. I am glad they have a good kids menu! Our server was really friendly, and willing to make us some chocolate milk from what they hand on hand. We did not have to wait long for our food and drinks were refilled quickly. I got the barrio roll. Very good, and spicy! I would get it again for sure. Prices reflect the area, so do not expect a huge roll for $ 15 bucks. The interior is nicely decorated and comfortable. Outdoor seating is available as well. If you are gluten free, be sure to tell them. They have gluten free soy sauce and are very aware of food allergies.

Drama! Drama! Drama! Word in the hood is that the Sushi on the Rock people left the partnership so the remaining owners had to rename to Sushi in the Ranch. All new signs, menus, etc. That has to be the fastest partnership on record! The menu is pretty close to the same with a few of the rolls named something slightly different(the Don Roll is now the Mike Roll or something). The service has always been terrible but now it is even worse!!! 40+ minutes for a roll when the place isn’t even busy… unacceptable. The food is okay but nothing great… in fact, I had a much better spice salmon roll from Seaside Market last week! It is crazy expensive if you don’t order off of the Happy Hour menu. I’m so disappointed b/c we were thrilled to be getting a Sushi on the Rock and now I don’t even want to go… a little nervous that it’s not busy enough to turn over the fish! You just don’t mess with sushi! I hope the remaining owners get their act together… they need to step up the service, lower the prices and get back in the game!

Went here with a couple of friends. The place is revamped with new owners and a slightly new menu. Fish is fresh, service is good and the price is relative to the area. As always when it comes to Sushi always, always try to have the chef make you something unique, something that has more fish versus(crab, cucumber and rice), thats when you know your getting great sushi. I had a good experience here and I might come back if I am in the area and craving sushi. The Critic.

Stopped in for the first time Friday evening and decided to place a to-go order for my wife and I. The«Brittany Roll(Enough to Share)» looked intriguing($ 20 for the roll — on the upper end of the specialty rolls). Said it would take 15 – 20 minutes. Okay. 40 minutes later a relatively small roll shows up. What sushi creation could possibly take 40 minutes to complete? In the meantime I see several couples come in, get seated and are quickly served by the sushi chefs behind the counter. Supposedly a lot of to-go orders that night… Oh yeah? Then tell me it will be 40+ minutes to make it before you make me wait. I wouldn’t have stayed around. Enough to Share? No it isn’t. Typical sushi rip-off. This place is located in Rancho Santa Fe so I’m sure their regular clientele doesn’t give a damn. Extra star since sushi was just okay. Try Katana in Carmel Valley instead…

Absolutely amazing! The sushi menu is filled with marvalous rolls, each with unique flavors. The staff was great, very quick and cheerful which made the evening even more enjoyable. We ordered the sunkist, kitchen sink, and big mike; all of which were wonderful. Best part is it’s close to home so we can go back soon.

Wanted to give Sushi on the Rock 5 stars but the wait staff let this restaurant down. Sushi was some of the best we’ve had in San Diego and the chefs were a lot of fun, the preparation of the food was first class. Unfortunately twice it took 5 minutes to get my water refilled and our waiter spent more time talking to other staff about his weekend than looking after us. The manager apologized when we informed her but the damage was done. We’ll give it one more try before we go elsewhere.

What happened!!! Came in again for dinner and it was a completely different place! I was informed that the woman who was so sweet and I thought had been the owner was gone, how does that happen? The staff was unorganized and seemed new and confused, there was a terribly rude lady up front which I think is the owner, they messed up our order along with the table next to us, forgot our drink order, took forever to be helped. Just seems like this place did a complete 360, the vibe just wasn’t there. Just not feeling it, I’m sure it will be like all the other places in this location and fail… so sad no one can get it together… will not be back! Do yourself a favor and stay away!

The BEST sushi in North County!!! Great service and great rolls. The Don roll is my favorite with a warm ponzu sauce and incredible seared albacore. Mongolian nachos… yum yum! The staff was friendly, professional, and very attentive. The place just opened and is busy every night. Go early if you can.
