Daniel B. Channell, M.D.

I just had my two week post operative checkup with Dr Channell after he did a vaginal hysterectomy on me because of a tumor and bleeding. I was very frightened about having to have surgery but Dr Channell was very calming and reassuring. The surgery went very well. I woke up on a pain pump and used it through the night. The next day I didn’t need it and went home. I only took pain meds for 48 hours. Within a week I felt good and after two I feel really good! I would highly recommend Dr Channell! Not only is he a wonderful caring Dr., he is an excellent surgeon! I trust him completely!

After reading the reviews of Dr. Daniel Channell, I really wanted him to be my OBGYN. (My first baby was delivered by Dr. Daryl Rodriques, whom I LOVED but moved to another state). I called the office when I was about 8 weeks pregnant to make my first appt with Dr. Daniel Channell. I could not make an appointment with the Dr. until my pregnancy was «confirmed». I could either go to my own Dr. to confirm pregnancy OR I could see Dr. Channell’s wife, who is a Dr. and could do this for me. Not that my 3 pregnancy tests confirmed it nor my horrible morning sickness. I made appointment with his wife Patricia Guevara Channell. She was fine. Nice enough. Although, I had an appointment at 4pm and didn’t get seen until after 5pm. She was able to confirm my pregnancy (wow surprise). So at that point I was able to make an appointment to finally see Dr. Daniel Channell. I made apt for (approx.) 2 weeks later. I then get a call a week before my appt from Ruby at their office wanting to talk about my financial plan. She began by explaining that even though I wasn’t due until April of 2016, I would be responsible to pay my copay for the Doctors fee to deliver my baby no later than 30 weeks. Ok that’s fine. SO she precedes to say well to help you out we actually broke out the fee into 5 payments and the first payment will be due at your appointment next week. I thanked her, but told her that I didn’t need a payment plan and that I would make sure to pay the balance in full by 30 weeks. (Mind you I haven’t even met the Dr. yet) She said well no — you have to pay the first payment at your first appointment. So I told her that I haven’t even meet the Dr. yet, I’m not sure if I will like him or feel comfortable or even want him to deliver my baby. She said well that is policy. I hung up with her and was in a little bit of shock. They obviously care more about money than patients. It’s October, I’m not due until the end of April. If I don’t pay by the 30^th week, then don’t deliver my baby! Let me meet the Doctor to decide if I even want to continue with him as my OBGYN. Needless to say I found another Doctor.

Very informative and understanding doctor. I appreciated his calm demeanor and interest in my health. Looking forward to him being my primary doctor for many years.
I saw my last dr for 14 years, but she retired so I tried Dr Channell today and very glad I did!

Dr. Channell is a wonderful OB-​GYN. His patient bedside manner is very attentive and gentle. The clinic is beautiful and clean. All the nurses are very nice — it is a busy place and they always treat me kindly. They have great nutrition products that made me feel much better.

I absolutely love Dr. Channell. He is always pleasant and kind. He helped me through a difficult time with grace. I did not go back to see him for awhile, (as time got away with me) however when I returned, he remembered me. He always answers all my questions and does not make me feel rushed.
Not all of the women in his office are as nice as he is. They all seem a bit bothered. There are a few who greet you with smiles.

Just left his office with an appointment with his wife Dr. Guevara for my yearly woman appt. after waiting about a hour, she rushes in, tells me she wants me on birth control and she will write me a prescription because she doesn’t do the Mirana. Because my voice is so hoarse I can barely talk, I ask her about giving me something for this cold and she says sorry, this is your woman yearly so you need to make another appointment in two weeks and I have two other patients waiting. I figure, well I’m a patient too right. I got dressed and just left. I’m so disappointed because she has been my doctor for the past 5 years and though I put up with the extremely lying wait tines I the office, running in and out within ten minutes is just very unprofessional. I hate I have to go to smother office, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. My appointment was at 1130am, got there 1115am didn’t leave until 1258pm… my first time ever leaving such a low score for any business…

Would not give me an appointment without first getting my credit card information. Staff was rude

I went to see the doctor when I was 8 weeks and asked for an ultra sound, but he did not want do it. He told me the first visit is for the pregnancy confirmation, even I have been confirmed by home test myself, and even he can tell when he test my urine immediately. HE SAID IT IS A PROCEDURE!!!
When I came back on 10 weeks, he told me my baby has not heartbeat, the size is only 6 weeks and asked me to do D&C. I was shocked and asked to check the HCG, that was wednesday and I need to repeat the test on Friday. I called the dr’s office after I was done the blood test on Friday, Quest Diagnostics rushed my blood test and the dr’s office promised me they will call me that afternoon and tell me the HCG numbers that I can decide to do D&C or not. I followed up on Friday afternoon and Monday morning. The receptionist kept telling me they have the result BUT the doctor did not have time to review it yet. IT IS VERY SIMPLE REPORT, ONLY ONE NUMBER ON ONE REPORT, I NEED TO COMPARE THE 2 NUMBERS TO SEE IF IT IS DECREASE OR INCREASE.
I did not get the result until today (one week later) when I went to the office, and they asked me for $ 50 copay. What? I only need the report, see the number and decide if I need to do the surgery, they ask money again!!!
After I read the numbers, I told the receptionist that I want to do the D&C and ask them schedule the surgery. I was waiting for the whole afternoon, nobody called me… I was so upset and felt helpless.
At the first trimester, they will ask the patient to sign a payment agreement and charge the deductible and the fee that the insurance will not cover in advance. There is also a policy to charge $ 35 if you did not show up the appointment and they will keep your credit card information on file. They consider money more than the patient. I never blame people to make money based on their work, but I am so pissed off with the doctor who charge money but did not do his job and did not take his responsibility.
The rating should have 0 STAR option, which is the one that I want to give him. NEVER NEVER GO TO SEE THIS DOCTOR!

Dr. Channel is one of the best doctors that I have EVER been to. I’m extremely picky in this area. He errors on the side of caution but will always listen to your concerns.
I had an extremely high risk pregnancy and he went above and beyond all measures to keep us safe. I can’t recommend him enough. I hope to change my insurance just to go back to him. He is that wonderful.
I don’t like to use meds and he absolutely supported me in this area as well.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Channell. He delivered all 3 of my babies, got us through infertility issues and a missed miscarriage. He is kind and caring, listened to me ramble and as long as I live in CA he’ll have my business! Claudia and the rest of the staff are wonderful and work hard, this is an excellent practice!

I LOVE Dr. Channell. I first went to him in 2004 and then my insurance changed and so I had to visit a new Dr. and then after another insurance change, I was able to go back to Dr. Channell. He actually remembered me from about 5 years prior. He is so caring and kind and actually takes his time to show that you matter. I would recommend him to any woman seeking an OBGYN. I’m not sure how he even received any less than stellar reviews. He is awesome. FYI I never write reviews on Unilocal,but felt it was necessary to vouch for such a wonderful doctor.

This is a low review (originally it was 2 stars but I realized that the nurses/​staff will change over time and so I should really give a rating for Dr. Channell as a quality physician), but if Dr. Channell himself hadn’t been kind and courteous to my wife and me, it would have been even lower. So I will say this: Dr. Channell would have made a fabulous ob and we really enjoyed meeting him during our first visit. But his support staff is atrociously bad; and, unfortunately, they play a large enough role in the process that my wife and I will be finding a new ob
Firstly, we showed up for our appointment, which we said on the phone was with (the male) Dr. Channell. We needed to talk to an ob about my wife’s medication usage during pregnancy, to have an ultrasound so that we’d know if the baby was 6 or 10 weeks, and documentation for my wife’s medical school needed to be filled out by an obstetrician. When I called for an appointment, I made to sure to communicate all three of those requirements. Yet, they had us marked down to see his wife, who is a family medicine doc so that they could «confirm» the pregnancy. Well, I had told them on that same initial phone appointment that we had confirmed the pregnancy at an urgent care the week before (the pregnancy was unexpected). Now I will admit that it was our fault that we didn’t have the urgent care fax over the documentation before the visit — that said, nobody in his office told us to! Perhaps we should have known better but this is our (well my wife’s) first pregnancy. Claudia, the practice’s nurse, took my wife’s vitals and is absolutely stuck on the whole «confirming the pregnancy» thing. «You cannot see the ob until your pregnancy is confirmed», «We’ll have the urgent care fax over the confirmation», *blank stare at the two of us* «but, you can’t see the ob unless your paperwork is here» (repeat 2 more times). Finally, within earshot of Dr. Channell, I said «There’s no point in us staying unless it’s to see the an obstetrician.» I was embarrassed to introduce myself to him that way, but Claudia was being obnoxious. So after all of that, we got the ob appointment. And (and this shows how class of a doctor Dr. Channell is) Dr. Channell apologized for what happened.
Secondly, the pregnancy caught us by surprise and my wife’s insurance doesn’t include maternity. I have to pay out of pocket for the first 2 months of her pregnancy. His practice’s appointments are $ 500 per visit for the first 5 visits. Seriously!!! Dr. Oliver in Pomona is $ 100 for sake of comparison. I was going to do it because it was only going to be 2 visits that I paid out of pocket for, but that was only because my wife REALLY liked/​trusted Dr. Channell.
Lastly, and this really pissed me off today, we forgot to get the paperwork signed for my wife’s medical school during our appointment. I called this morning around 11 am and they said it wouldn’t be a problem. I called back multiple times between 12 – 2 (didn’t realize that they took 2 hours off for lunch and don’t bother to answer the phone or check the messages during that time) and left messages. Never returned. Finally, around two, they answered and said that it hadn’t been signed because Dr. Channell was at the hospital but would sign as soon as he got back («within minutes») and that they would call me after the paperwork was signed. At 4:30 I called and the paperwork was signed, «you didn’t call me!», «But I did send it to your patient portal», «I think I have to come in to get the original just to be safe», «we close at 5», «I’m leaving now». I live in Pomona, and while it took 20 minutes to drive in the am, today it took me 35 minutes. I called at 5 till and spoke with the receptionist saying that I would be there on the dot of 5, she said that she would wait and to knock on the door when I got there. Well, I got stuck at every single friggin’ stoplight between the 10 and their office and so I called again at 2 minutes to 5 saying I’d be 3 minutes late (I’m neurotic about time). Nobody answered. When I got there (5:03, seriously…) and knocked on the door nobody was there. I couldn’t believe it. I knocked until 5:10 and left. I hope that Dr. Channell hears the message I left on his receptionist’s voicemail. Poor effort, I will be so mad if there is any problem with my wife’s medical school come monday if they need an original. Regardless, We’re switiching obstetricians. Although the care is provided by Dr. Channell, and he seems great, the office staff is criticial to the overall quality of care for my wife and our baby for the next 7.5 months (The ultrasound said its 6 weeks :)) and I don’t want to deal with people that put in such little effort.
Guess what Claudia (the nurse) said after our appointment, even AFTER she saw our baby on the ultrasound? «Well, we still need the paperwork to confirm your pregnancy.» Dr. Channell looked at her and said, «I’m pretty sure I just confirmed it.»

Ended up with Dr Channell (unplanned) when my baby was breach 3 weeks before due date and my current doctor recommended we allow this doctor (Channell) to do a «reversion» which I was terrified of and upset a stranger would be taking care of me at the last minute. Not only was he professional and extremely calm, he has incredible bedside manner, which is not often found today. Since then (1999) he has delivered three of my four children (only because I didn’t know him for my first). I’m very loyal to good doctors, so it was a big deal for me to change as I was very happy with my previous one as well. My last pregancy at the age of 40 was an uncertain time for me, but we went through it together with flying colors. Highly recommend.

Dr. Channell is a great OB/​GYN. He was my OB for 2 of my 3 pregnancies – one of them ending in an early miscarriage. He was incredibly understanding, gentle, and kind when I lost my 2^nd baby. He gave me time to cry before continuing with his recommendations and was not at all pushy. His nurses are all very nice. His office staff is a little bit disorganized, but I think it’s because there are some newbies. I also enjoyed being able to have my ultrasounds right in his office. He has his own U/​S machine so he can take a peek if he’s ever concerned. He also will likely do an u/​s and your first OB visit to verify how far along you are. I never felt awkward during a pelvic exam. I know that Dr Channell really stays on the safe side of things – he doesn’t act cavalier about anything. If he’s concerned for any reason, he will take measures to make sure things are on track. As far as Ann L’s review, I can see the frustrations surrounding the c-​section. I’ve had friends deliver babies successfully that were 10 lbs +. He’s being honest, though. Most OB’s will do a c-​section for a 10 lb baby if they know he/​she is that big ahead of time. Is it absolutely necessary? No. Are they protecting themselves? Absolutely. If something was to go wrong, a mother could sue them for malpractice… with the increase in malpractice cases in the country, I don’t blame him for saying that. I’m not sure about the bait ‘n switch thing… I haven’t experienced anything like that.

I first saw Dr. Channell in 2004 when I was expecting my 1^st child after years of infertility. My husband and I wanted a doctor who was compassionate and someone who was knowledgeable and kind. He has subsequently delivered my other 2 children. The last 2 pregnancies were complicated by bleeding. There was not a time during these pregnancies that felt that I was not receiving the best care available. Thank GOD for Dr. Channell.

Dr. Channell is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. I saw him for the first time after a painful miscarriage under the care of another doctor. Dr. Channell was patient, gentle, and kind. When I became pregnant with my now-​3 year old, I came to look forward to my prenatal appointments with him. He knows his stuff, he welcomes questions, he lets you cry when you need to, and he has a great sense of humor. Most importantly (to me, at least), he remembers ME. I am not a number on a chart. He remembers me, my personal situations, asks how my husband is doing, etc. He is fantastic, and I would never, ever go to another ob/​gyn.

After I delivered a 10 pound baby successful without complications with a midwife I visited him for an annual exam. Told me «they section (C-​section) for a lot less then that here». Also tried to pull a bait and switch with me for a less expensive device even though insurance was charged for the name brand. After I called him out on it he said he «thought I may have changed my mind or something».
