First, I must admit: I’ve never actually taken a class at Wake Technical Community College. I have, however, attended events at Wake Tech. Today was my second time attending the Triangle Area Freelancers Write Now! Conference, held in Building E of the Wake Tech North Campus. Part of the campus is under construction so I wouldn’t take the first turn in. Take the second and then it’s pretty easy to find the buildings. Building E has a beautiful auditorium for a keynote speaker, atrium for a social breakfast or luncheon, and classrooms for workshops. The acoustics are great, the furniture is comfortable and functional, and the building is well-maintained with great technology for presentations and speaking. One feature I have learned about at Wake Tech is that they offer free classes to the unemployed or underemployed. I’ve never taken any of them, but heard about what great offerings — career coaching, resume workshops, social media supplemental training to get more familiar with the tools, LinkedIn lessons, and more. They also have a great basic Technical Writing course. I met the professor at another workshop last fall and was really impressed at what they offer, as well as how accommodating, considerate, and informative they are with the community and students. Really wonderful to have Wake Technical Community College in the area with such great resources.
