They are currently restructuring the whole place, which really needed it. Currently the men have a new locker room and the women, ugh, it is just awful with mold and torn up lockers, dripping showers that don’t turn off, etc. I can’t wait till the women’s locker room is finished as well. I go here to swim. They have the nicest people working and volunteering here from the lady who cleans to the head of the place, Gerri. They work with you no matter what your situation and are empathetic to any concerns you may have. In spite of the areas that still need construction, it is very clean and well lit. The only Y I found better was in San Jose, CA where the pool is outside.

I joined this gym because it was walking distance from my house. Staff is very friendly and nice but I paid too much money for the membership while they provide very few group fitness classes so I decided to join a different gym

I’ve been a member for 5 years now. I originally joined because I not only wanted to work out but also wanted the option of playing basketball and also swimming. I got much more than for what I originally bargained. In the five years that I have come here, I’ve played basketball on many many an occasion and have also participated in dodgeball, indoor soccer, volleyball, and bootcamp. My basketball skills have significantly improved as have my skills in all the other aforementioned activities. More importantly I have developed a very good camaraderie with all of the members that range in age from around 10 to 60. As I am one of the more frequent and prolific members, I feel like I’ve become somewhat of an icon as all the dudes running ball greet me with such remarkable enthusiasm. In fact I’ve formed close friendships with two members with whom I have many times frequented outside of the Y. The minor pet peeves are that the gym floor is often slippery even after it was waxed and had new glass backboards installed, and sometimes classes are scheduled that reserve the whole gymnasium even if they are small. The weight room is small but is rarely packed to the point that you ever have to wait. All in all I have found pretty much everything I need at this Y. In light of all this, I must say that joining this Y was the best decision I have ever made as it has changed my life and influenced me to become more healthy and active like no other fitness center imo possibly could. I have even been reluctant to relocate because I almost feel like a family member here. As a result, I have every intention of continuing my membership here for as long as I am living in the central new jersey area. **I must add that this Y is NOT closed — Unilocal Staff should update the title**

If you are a member there and think you are going to swim on a Saturday you had better save some time by calling ahead. They rent the pool and turn members away.

I wound up here on a day pass because my regular gym closed for the snows. The listing is wrong — it’s still open! I was only there for two hours, so this is just a brief review. It’s a pretty small Y, tucked into a building in downtown Rahway. I went to do some biking and running. There were only two stationary bikes, and four treadmills. They had an equal number of elipticals and rowing machines. The place was clean and well-kept. I can say the same thing about the locker room. My only complaint is that it cost my $ 10 for a day pass! That’s a lot when I’m a member at another Y. Apparently I have to be from a gym 50 miles or more away for it to be free. That, and the fact that when they say they close at 7, the attendants were raring to go. I’d expected when they closed at 7, I’d have a little more time!
