Let me preface this by saying that I have been coming here for many years… since it was still part of the Red Barn franchise. The quality is not what it used to be. It is basically hit or miss. Recently ordered an all white meat chicken dinner. One of the breasts was perfect and the other tasted and looked like it had been sitting in the warmer all day. Couldn’t even eat it. On Friday night I went in for their Friday Perch dinner at close to 6pm. I placed my order and paid and then they come back saying they don’t have enough left for a dinner. This was right around 6pm. The owners are not the friendliest people either. The husband is always yelling and just seems very crabby every time. On my most recent trip with the Friday Perch dinner, the wife was just berating a new employee who was looking to her for help ringing up the order. The restaurant itself needs attention as well. Seats are ripped, paint is peeling on the ceiling above the drive through register and just doesn’t have a very clean feeling to it. I used to love going here, but recently it has been let down after let down. I will state that their custard is outstanding in their home made cones and that is the saving grace for me not giving them 1 star.

What poor quality food! Nothing is fresh! I ordered a 2 piece white chicken dinner which included Cole slaw. The Cole slaw tasted as though they put raw cabbage in the container without any sauce. The chicken was dry and salty. Also they were very small in size. The beverages were NOT included in the meal and refills are $ 0.53! Fries were obviously frozen but okay. The bun was hinging on stale but I was hungry so I ate it. It was obvious that the bun was prepackaged too. The place needs Robert Irvine to show up. It was built in the 60’s and has NOT seen any updates. …it certainly is showing.

Please get rid of the curbs in the drive thru! Please! Especially the chunk after the window that sticks out. Good food.

This is a Racine classic, and was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Nowadays, I still really like it, but there’s a handful of things that they need to fix. Top 5 fried chicken in Racine. Maybe my 3rd fave, I dunno, that’s a tough one. Solid burgers, not my fave, but good enough. I often get two chicken legs, a regular cheeseburger(they have all kinds of doubles, and jumbo etc), a chocolate shake, and a gastric bypass! You feel like @$$ for the rest of the day, but… Ok. Sorry for the rest of this but, y’all need to call Robert Irvine. The décor has needed an update forever. It’s crazy dark in there, except in the blinding, front«garden room», I-dunno-what. The drive thru(a clear afterthought) needs desperate widening, and is currently only cleared for a two-door Speck. The system by which this place runs is ridiculous. The drive-up drains off the regular staff, which is always understaffed. The older couple that runs it probably has a classic case of «can’t see past the end of their noses», and don’t wanna switch horses mid-stream. But they need to. At least 1 staff member is on break during the lunch push — every time !!! They’re always yelling back to the guy«you gotta nuff for 2 legs& a breast?»… It’s what you do!!! Have enough. Period. Because of a lot of these gaps, if you catch the wrong day, you’ll blow ½ your lunch break waiting. Good thing I love chicken & chocolate, or else I’d go down the street, to the best Mexican restaurant in Racine, so…

I really wanted to like this place, as it seems to be a family owned and run operation. We came in for lunch around 12:30 and there were 2 other people in the place. Never a good sign. It seemed a bit dirty and looked like it hasn’t been redecorated since the 80’s. Maybe they’re holding out for that style to come back around, but ripped seat cushions were never hip, AFAIK. Counter help was pleasant, even pointing out a BOGO offer for double cheeseburgers. Thanks, but I probably shouldn’t even be eating ONE, let alone two. We ordered the dbl cheese, a Philly, fries and a soda and the order took 12 minutes to be prepared. TWELVE minutes. That seems a bit excessive. Fries were warm and undersalted and the cheeseburger was bland with minimal toppings. The Philly tasted ok, but cheap, and it wasn’t. We also noticed a family of small flies buzzing around one of the light fixtures in the dining room. In the time we were there, we witnessed two people come in to pick up their phone orders and neither one was ready. People say the ice cream/custard is good here, and if I ever come back(unlikely), that’s the only thing I’m getting.

We drove past and saw the name and expected a diner experience. However, the food was more of a fast food restaurant. The place looked dirty. My husband ordered the double cheeseburger which looked like a tiny burger from your typical fast food restaurant. Appeared to be frozen beef patties as well because he was not asked how he wanted the burger done(well, medium, rare). I ordered the chicago style hotdog and the pickle was one of those rubbery yellow dill pickles that dont need refrigeratioon and have no crunch. We were pretty dissappointed and felt for the quality, the food was over priced.

My fiancé and I had an ice cream craving while visiting his family in Racine, and decided to stop here. Long story short, they screwed up my order, and after asking to correct it by remaking it, or refunding it, they said ‘no’ to both. I didn’t think there were companies operating in 2014 without customer service, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I should have paid attention to how long ago these reviews were submitted. I stopped here for lunch with my 2 kids. My daughter and I got the 2 piece cod meal, and my son got a baked potato with cheese and broccoli. The fish was good, not fantastic. It appeared homemade, as opposed to Sysco. The tartar sauce was actually a highlight — some of the best I’ve ever had. The coleslaw was also good. The rolls were not anything to write about — seemed like store-bought. My son’s cheese on his potato was velveeta-unacceptable in a cheese state! My daughter also got a strawberry shake-also nothing special. Service people seemed sullen, diminishing the whole experience. In sum, if you’re looking for an ok meal, go here; greatness lies elsewhere.

Best frozen custard bar none. Better than Kopp’s, Leon’s, and Culver’s. Their burgers and fries aren’t bad either, although it’s probably between fast food and casual dining in terms of quality. The building is nothing fancy but it’s clean.

Can I tell you how much I love this place??? They have delish burgers and chicken. Their custard is the best I have ever had-not to mention they make their waffle cones right there, also to die for! I come down here from the falls at least once a month– now I have my husband and kids hooked on their food and custard too-good thing it is far away from me or I would be as big as a house from eating there all the time!

I grew up right in the area, so I ate there for years. 2nd to the last time I ate there I got 2 farmbusters. The first bite I take, there was a big black curly hair… I almost threw up. Didn’t go back for 3 years. So I finally decided to try it once more. Ordered the potato skins and guess what… another piece of hair! Threw it out and I can’t ever try it again. Maybe I should have asked them to hold the hair? Otherwise the food was always good and the custard with homemade cones… wonderful.

On a recent visit, I got my usual snickers in a waffle cone and my niece got a cup of oreo custard. As we were walking, talking, and enjoying our cream, she exclaimed, «Ewe! I don’t like this cookies and cream! It has like whole oreos in here!» At first I twisted my face and prepared to ridicule her for disliking the best part! Then, I fixed my face and comforted her by saying, «It’s okay honey. Just place your whole, custard covered, oreo cookies on top of my snickers custard. Auntee Brandi will take care of it for you. You just eat the little ones.» SUCKER!!! What a treat I had that day.

Best. Custard. Ever. Broasted chicken is awesome. Burgers taste like I make at home… unlike most other restaurants.

On one of our EZ reunion weekends this past spring we stopped by after picking up Molly’s kringle order for the town of Mascoutah from O&H. We took advantage of the two for one double cheeseburgers which were, if I can remember correctly, tasty. We had some fries to go along with and Molly had a grilled cheese which she didn’t complain about. Not sure what Doug had, but I think we had some kind of custard. I like the story about them being the lone«Red Barn» standing. Sad the others closed, but happy they were able to keep going! If the mood is right and I can’t make my mind up about where to go next time I am wondering Racine, I may be paying them a visit, if not at least for some custard.

The BEST butter pecan custard. Salty, roasty, melty, drippy, caramely, I-just-wanna-roll-in-it yum ever. Located in a former«Red Barn» franchise building. Really hard to get in & out of the parking lot/drive-thru. Burgers are good. Teenaged counter service is awkward and weird and they’re totally talking about you right now.

Great Butter Pecan flavor, Forget Culvers, get your money worth and stop here, cost effective and worth it. Waffle cones do not leak. Serious

We stopped here for a quick evening meal. For a fast food place, it is very attractive with recessed lighting, real plants, and natural wood ceiling. We had the two for one double cheeseburger and two malts for $ 8 – it was very good and very fast. We would gladly go there again.
