Not sure why people would choose this place for Japanese food. Im surprised to see that the reviews here are relatively decent. I tried the tofu/vegetable curry, and beef steak. Every dish was bad. Curry was bland and the beef was dry. Rolls were mediocre. With that said, the service is good. Staff are kind and attentive which is why I am giving this place a 2. I may give this place another try, we’ll see, but I definitely will not order those items again.

Went here on a Sunday night for the Groupon deal. We did the $ 40 worth of food(excludes drinks and speciality item on the menu) for $ 27. The food was decent but the portions are pretty small. The sushi pizza was pretty good but also really small for $ 13. Drinks were also pretty expensive. Service was really good and friendly. Overall, food was good but nothing special but the portions were too small for the price. The two of us were the one’s at the restaurant, except for another couple that left shortly after we arrived. Seems like the place used to be popular but has been struggling recently. Use the Groupon and help them gain some business!

I got the fried rice, beef teriyaki, and some sushi. The sushi and rice tastes all right, but the beef teriyaki is pretty juicy. They are generic, but still pretty good. The service is pretty dull. It took a long time to get a refill on water, when we requested something, it wasn’t brought out to us, and the sushi took a while to bring out. It was a disappointment but the food wasn’t too bad.

Worst customer service ever! I usually am very understanding because I used to serve for 4 years in college. But what we experienced yesterday was terrible. The server had no idea what she was doing. We sat across from the sushi bar, and noticed the food kept coming out and rested on the counter for at least 15 minutes. No one even bothered to deliver them to the tables. The sushi and other dishes were mediocre, definitely not worth the $ 70 we paid for. Not to mention they were all cold and bland. We won’t be returning!

We came here for dinner with a groupon. The place is quite spacious and quiet on a Friday night since it’s snowing outside. The place looks pretty nice so it was a good first impression. However, the service and food quality turned out quite the opposite, unfortunately. We ordered 4 rolls on the menu and it took almost 30 mins to come out even though the place was not crowded at all. We got the Kagawa, scorpion, spicy scallop, and B52 rolls. Both my friend and I were starving and had to ask our server when the food would come out. Our server was new and barely spoke English so she wasn’t able to answer our questions about the menu or items served. The quality of the food is very disappointing… The taste was just mediocre. The tempura shrimp was cold and not crunchy, the scallop doesn’t taste like scallop… The B52 on the other hand was too hard, too crunchy. There was nothing that stood out or made me want to come back in the future… Hopefully they can improve the quality of both food and service.

What is really return from Kagawa is a rudeness attitude fro manager YUKI. She needed to learned what is customer is asking and concern before she scream back to customer on the phone. Please keep in mind she said EATWHATYOUPAIDFOR, DON’T COMPLAINT. Just suck it up. I’m not willing to do any business with them, when they can’t even understand what the problem is, when they are fighting so hard telling you they are right, When they offers you $ 5 to blow you off, when they argued with you like I was begging for money. They taught me a great lesson on how they treat their customer. Sure none of the Japanese restaurant in Quincy I been had same kind of experience.

I enjoy coming here. I only get the noodle bowls and sushi. On to the nitty gritty! They have changed the menu and noodle bowls aren’t in it. But the friendly staff are more than happy to help. There’s choice of noodle. Udon, ramen & another I can’t remember. choice of meat. seafood, beef &chicken(I highly recommend seafood) and choice of broth(miso mmmmmmm) Let’s just say this thing is packed with goodies the bowl is huge and your givin a mini ladle and chop sticks to dig it all out.

We had fried chicken. Didn’t look the same as one on menu pictures look more crispy not dry n dark. When it came out . We order sushi pizza. Interesting to try. Friend order stuff I don really eat but enough to get boat worth of seafood. Spicy salmon was not that spicy n rolls comes no different then other ones we try Beware groupon does say extra 15% on tips add to bill which I. Thought why is tip include on it already. Plus most time is for 6 or more n I no more then 6 Really they can’t pay waiter better hourly rate then just earning tip from customers I really don like how we can’t use groupon on sushi boat… You still get pay for eating your seafood

Went to Kagawa’s for the very first time because of Groupon. The service was poor and the food lacked taste. I am very considerate when tipping the server however, in this case I believe I did not have to tip because: The fried chicken looked and tasted like it was cooked using old cooking oil. The spider sushi barely had crab and lacking sauce. Soda costed $ 3.99 with no free refill(haven’t had this experience before at a restaurant of this caliber). I had to wait for water all the time, had to stop eating and wait. 15% tip is added to the bill as a mandatory tip, which I crossed out. When I called Kagawa’s and asked why my credit card was charged a different amount from what I authorized, I was told: Kagawa’s servers get paid a base of $ 2.75/hr and relies on tips. The server who helped us is not on welfare and pays American taxes(us too). The manager assumed I was black because I did not want to give tip(at this point I was disgusted with her and the establishment she works for. I am a dark skinned Asian BTW). The manager said she’s going to bring the issue to court. The manager said she’s going to have Groupon blacklist me! I explained to the manager that charging a customer a different amount from what was authorized was fraud. She hung up on me. The service truly is very poor.

First time there with a group of 4 adults + 1 kid. The menu was different with sushi pizza and baby tako. We decided to try the fried chicken which was over-seasoned and has a mysterious gravy with it. So I would say skip that unless they improve it. We ordered the sushi boat looked amazing. The sushi was decent not great. We also ordered a bento box of beef and chicken which was quite good. I would recommend if you are not in mood for fish. The sushi pizza sounded funny but the rice bottom salmon tartar was quite good. Next time will sit in the Japanese style booths which are good for private groups and special family occasions.

They’ve changed their menu, and now their udon miso is just noodles and broth. Used to have tempura and other stuff in it. Boo.

Food seeker beware: This place had its ups and downs but today will be the last time I visit. There were many things that was wrong with our dinner. The common theme between them is the lack of care. The restaurant had been struggling to grab customers. Even with value savings such as groupon, I wish I could return my dinner and experience last night. The baked scallop was drowning in a pool of questionable clear liquid. The salmon was gray and very light pink. The only thing I enjoyed was my $ 4 pineapple juice. The end. P. S. I am sorry for the servers who are obligated to bring out this crap.

We parked in the back parking lot, other Unilocalers said it’s free after 6pm is not true! It’s $ 1.50 Kagawa’s atmosphere is quiet which I prefer, our waitress was very nice. I like their sake and cocktails are great! My husband loved the spicy tuna roll, I had the dragon, Kagawa, philly and shrimp tempura roll. They were all not bad and not great either. The miso soup is bland with strong fishy seaweed taste(can’t go wrong with miso?!), their house salad is terrible. I think we drank more than we ate. Prepare to spend at least a hundred bucks they automatically included 15% tip. I don’t know if I’ll ever come back for sushi but I definitely recommend their cocktails.

I liked this place. It tasted fresh to me and I was able to pick it up in 10 minutes. I got the spicy salmon and the sweet potato maki. Women on the phone and when I picked up was very friendly. I will be ordering from here for lunch since it is fairly close to my office.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. The sushi is always fresh and well made. One of the best sushi spots around the south shore. The service is always great. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and attentive. Always greeting you as soon as you walk in the door and remembering returning customers. The mixed drinks are also delicious. I highly recommend the Mai tai!!!

One of the best sushi place from the south shore to the Boston area! The freshest and tastiest sushi I have ate. The Black Forest is great ! It melts in your mouth, and I love that you cannot taste the seaweed what so ever. The kagawa maki roll is also great! It fills all of your taste buds without being overwhelming. I used a groupon, making the final check fairly cheap, but if it wasn’t for the groupon I would consider this a rather expensive sushi place, BUT I’m sure is will not disappoint despite the extra couple bucks for sushi

Black Forest maki Kagawa maki Try these two rolls and it will change your life Ive been going to this restaurant before the groupon deals, but ive been going more often since without the groupon it is on the pricier side. But none less you get what you pay for. TOPNOTCHFRESHFOOD. Their customer service is superb, and i love the traditional japanese style theme they have Their pina cololada is also pretty good

It’s definitely not the fanciest place on hancock street, but Kagawa definitely has some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Everything roll we’ve tried has been amazing. They have some creative rolls with mango, pineapple and even hot dogs, but I like to stick to the classics. Spicy tuna rolls are out of this world. We always get the white tuna and regular tuna and they are equally delicious. The spider roll, rainbow, shrimp tempura are also fantastic. The servers are always very quick, can’t say I’ve ever had bad service here. The décor and menus could use an update, but overall it’s a great sushi restaurant.

The Spider Maki is a must!!! Soft shell crab tempura, tobiko, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo. The crab was crispy and delicious. I have been to Kagawa a couple of times, and this was my favorite sushi I ever got there. I really enjoyed the Chirashi, which was sashimi(raw slices of seafood) on a bed of sushi rice. At $ 17, it was the priciest item that we ordered. Good option if you are willing to splurge, or if you have a Groupon(we did). The Key West Maki was decent, but nothing special. I thought the crispy salmon skin would be more noticeable, but all I got was sauce and avocado. It tasted good, but I’ve had better. I suggest staying away from the Kagawa Curry Pot. Neither my friend nor I liked it very much. The sauce had almost NOFLAVOR. Better to use the money for another Maki roll.

Stopped by twice now for lunch within the past week or so and maybe it was what we ordered but both times, my experience was only okay. If asked to list out a must have, I can’t honestly say there is any one dish that was an absolute standout. We’ve tried the following maki rolls along with some salmon sashimi, steamed shumai and chicken teriyaki: Spider, Best Friend, Sake, Spicy Salmon and Caterpillar. For better maki rolls, I’d definitely go the extra mile and venture over to Fuji’s in Wollaston.
