Found this dentist in my insurance company catalog. Choose him as network general dentist for my wife and they accepted. I’ve set up an appointment by phone and all seemed ok — they accepted our insurance plan and we negotiated time. But when we arrived to their office they just informed us «we don’t accept your insurance plan». Just wasted week of time. Totally unprofessional.

Great customer service! The doctor and his staff did an excellent job at making me feel comfortable throughout my visit. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!

The below review is for Dr. Nektalov. I attempted to see him at his Astoria office, Steinway dental. I found the name of this dentist, Dr. Oleg Nektalov through my health insurance providers website on a list of dentists in my area who are in network. Because my health insurance requires you to designate a provider, I called to make sure he was in network and when they said yes I had Dr. Nektalov designated as my dentist. I had a really bad toothache and made an appointment to see him. When I made the appointment I asked the staff who answered the phone to verify that they took my insurance, she said yes and scheduled the appointment. When I arrived for the appointment I was unapologetically told«we don’t take your insurance» and«the doctor won’t see you». I told the receptionist that a staff member had verified they take my insurance. She said the staff member made a mistake. Then she said I never said my actual health insurance name– just the name of the dental component. Which wasn’t true– I wasn’t even sure of the name of the dental component so I gave her my health insurance name– affinity. I basically begged to see the dentist– explaining I had walked 45 minutes to get to the appointment, had a horrible toothache, and wouldn’t be able to make an appointment somewhere else that day. She rudely said no unless I wanted to pay completely out of pocket. I asked to speak to the doctor several times and she refused saying he was too busy which made no sense given I had an appointment that he wasn’t seeing me for. Finally the doctor came out to speak to me and refused to treat me as well and was just as unapologetic as his staff member. I explained to him that I got his name through my insurance and they assured it was in network and his response was«well that’s their problem». I finally left the office but an hour later I called back because my insurance told me I could only see this specific dentist until the first of next month because he was my designated provider. I explained this to the staff and again said I was in pain from the toothache and asked if there was anything they could do. The receptionist said«I am leaving now. I don’t know what the hell you want me to do.» She then said she would call my insurance and call me right back. I never received this call. If you value your time and don’t want to waste it by showing up only to be told they don’t take your insurance even though the said they did, then I would avoid this office and this dentist at all costs. In the interest of true transparency as I was leaving I told the dentist I would be writing this review and he said«go ahead, I don’t care».

I went to see him last week in Astoria at 28 – 18 Steinway St, and I’m really glad I did. I give him four stars because Dr Oleg and his dentil hygienist had an excellent bedside manner. I’m not scared of much, but dentists scare the **** out of me. He explained everything I needed done and referred to my x-rays so I could see exactly what he was talking about. I’m even going for a follow up this week. This is why he didn’t get five stars: I was a little confused because its a medical and dental office. But the admin staff was very friendly. One might have been a bit too friendly – he kept asking me if I needed help and kind of hovering over me while I filled out my form. It felt like he was rushing me. I’d still recommend him, though.
