I love coming here for their Seared Tuna Tataki salad. It’s very unique, and exquisitely delicious. Since the prices here are a little high for my budget, that’s typically all I order. I’ve heard wonderful things about their sushi!

Such a cool, casual environment and excellent sushi! Very prompt and the vip club discounts are awesome. It’s definitely a regular stop for my friends and I.

The sushi I had was really awful. I was in town for a few days and in the mood for sushi. Service was slow, but that would have been forgivable if the sushi were decent. The rice was gloppy and rubbery, and the rolls I had were almost entirely rice with very little of other ingredients. I would definitely not return.

Good food, service is quick and the selection is nice. This is probably some of the higher quality sushi in Provo. The mango roll was really tasty

Went on a Friday night. Wait for two people was about 25 minutes. Service was prompt and good. Had miso glazed salmon. My wife has shrimp tempura. Both tasted great but over priced in my opinion. The atmosphere was good. Also had deep fried crab cake as an appetizer. They weren’t very good but not too bad. They were cold on the in side and hot on the outside.

One of the best sushi spots in Utah Valley. A lot of people seem to get caught up with the all-you-can-eat sushi that is prevalent. I have found that I would much rather spend $ 20 – 30 on a couple really fresh, high quality rolls, than spend the same amount to gorge myself on mediocre rolls. I am very satisfied with Happy Sumo’s ability to deliver on the former. The quality of the rolls here are far and above what you find at all-you-can-eat joints. The Marz is my absolute favorite roll, but I have never had anything here that I didn’t like. Their nigiri is also very good as is their tempura veggies.

Okay, considering the available sushi in this area, this place has a few good rolls. Id say the pricing is normal, slightly on the higher end for sushi. Nothing amazing about pricing. That said, they do have happy hours on their VIP which help a little. I’m giving this place four stars as t is tastey, and I can’t complain about the sushi. It’s always obvious that Utah can do a little better in the sushi department, but they aren’t exactly located next to the sea or anything. Located in the river woods, It’s definitely a nicer place to go eat sushi, and the ambience is nice as well.

I ate here for my friend’s birthday and it was good food and a great effort by the staff to help my wife and I identify gluten free options from the menu. I’m not a huge sushi fan, but I enjoyed a chicken dinner with some chicken based sushi haha. Good times.

It was ok… Not crazy good. But not too bad… I’d go again. Crazy busy though. We waited 40min for a table. But with the mall being right there time goes by pretty darn fast. We enjoyed listening to a violinist who was performing outdoors. His music was beautiful. I had the seaweed salad and it was fantastic. The rolls were ordinary, there tempura could be better.

Very tasty! Great décor in the resto and great service. Forget what I ordered because I told him to surprise me lol. Came to around $ 13. Great atmosphere outside at the«shops at Riverview» in Provo. Fire warmer was creative just outside the resto.(a few more scattered through the«outside mall».)

We visited this restaurant last Thursday and first we waited a while to get anyone to our table to get our drinks and the order, then when the food finally came, it was not the best quality. The miso soup was salty and the fish on the rolls did not seem very fresh. My glass was never refilled, the service was really really poor. This restaurant is overpriced.

The customer service and food were good, but I what really like about happy sumo are the tiny blankets they give each customer. And they tend to do ½ off nights quite often. Sign up for their vip menu!

Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible customer service. I purchased a gift card online on September 29th for my sister’s birthday(October 6th). That same day, I received an automatic confirmation that my card had been sent via USPS. Knowing it only had about 30 miles to travel, I was confident it would reach her in plenty of time. The day after her birthday(October 7th, now nine days after I ordered the card), my sister told me that my gift had never arrived. Concerned, I emailed Happy Sumo and was promptly assured by «Ania Sego, Guest Services» that my card had been mailed on October 1st and should be there any day. Four days later it did arrive, and I breathed a sigh of relief(I have really terrible luck with USPS — they ALWAYS lose my stuff, so I thought it might never arrive). That is, until my sister remarked that the envelope was postmarked on October 7th. What! October 7th?! The day I emailed them wondering if the card had been mailed?! The day I was told«your card was mailed out on the 1st»!? I called Ania out, and instead of apologizing and offering any sort of rectification, she doubled down. Instead of having been *mailed* on the 1st, as she told me before, she now said it had been placed in their mail *queue* on the 1st, and that pickup/postage dates vary. In my response I pointed out to her that I’d been specifically told it was MAILED on the 1st, not that it had been placed in some pile for a week. At this point she just quit responding to me. Oh, in her email she also told me that they can take up to 2 days to fulfill the order and their website states that USPS can take up 10 business days to ship it once it’s been mailed, and that therefore it technically HAD arrived within that window — completely missing the point. If the letter had been postmarked on the 1st and it had taken 10 days to arrive, then whatever. That’s out of their control. What IS within their control is how soon they mail it, and how they treat their paying customers. TL;DR: My gift card was clearly forgotten about, when I inquired about it nine days later someone went *oh crap* and stuck it in the mail and then told me it had been mailed a week before(either not realizing the postmark would broadcast their mistake, or hoping my sister wouldn’t think to check it), and then quit responding to my emails. Anyway, I’m posting images to back this up. The dates speak for themselves.

If you want a restaurant that takes forever to be seated and has really over priced mediocre food then this is your restaurant. I came for lunch and waited 15 minutes before anyone would acknowledge me at the front desk. The restaurant was mostly empty with 6 different servers making busy with busy work. It took them 25 more minutes to get my food. The sushi tasted no better than the sushi you can pick up at smiths grocery for half the price. In short, don’t waste your time just go to smiths and skip the slow sumo.

Rated as one of the best sushi joints in Salt Lake, we decided to have dinner when we were close by. Nice place, lots of room, high ceilings, and service was good. Lot’s of sushi options on the menu, most very non-traditional but I found them to be very tasty none the less. Prices were good and atmosphere overall was very nice, I would definitely go back when in town, Aloha

Roommates wanted to go out to sushi. It’s half off day at this place(They said Happy Sumo but I heard Shoga, which was the only reason I tagged along). Well it’s my first time going here and the second I saw the menu I knew it wasn’t gonna end well. Sushi roll with chicken in it? Bahahaha that’s a terrifying sight. Ordered the sumo sampler, the baja and the frida roll. Sampler: The prawns were not firm but rather soggy and flavorless. Wontons and pot stickers were okay. The peppers were the only things I like. Proportion was small. Granted it was half off, it wasn’t a horrible deal. The rolls: Sushi rice was laughable. Ginger was the cheap pink kind. Wasabi was the weak powdered stuff that you mix with water. The tuna in the baja was brown and old. The flavors of the baja did not go together very well but rather funky tasting, not in a good way. The frida roll suffered the same faith and were made with old ingredients. First time, and last time.

Waited 47 min for two rolls and the roll looked nothing like the picture, it was missing ingredients. One 15 dollar roll could feed a small child.

First, I used to love this restaurant but over a little while now I’ve noticed that the sushi has gotten to be mediocre, which for the price is pretty disappointing. If you’re a VIP member and you go on a two-for-one night that’s not too terrible however. Second, the service. I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes here but it needs to be fixed. Most inattentive waitresses I’ve ever had. And I don’t see them busy with other people. They just kind of… disappear. I hope this place gets back to how it used to be: a customer-friendly establishment with excellent quality food.

If you want good sushi, this is not the place to go. They charge high prices for mediocre sushi. I got the Vegas roll and Jezzebelle. The Jezebel was wrapped poorly and the flavors didn’t work. The ratios inside the roll were weird. I didn’t hate the roll, but I’ve had better. I also got the Tempura vegetables. Now traditionally Japanese food is small enough that it is bite size so you can pick it up with chopsticks. With the vegetables, while the playing was pretty, the portions were as big as my hands with full onion rings and sweet post the length of a potato. Speaking of, the sweet potatoes were raw. The service was great, but it did take an hour to get our food out. That was on top of waiting an hour for our table because they don’t take reservations on Fridays and Saturdays.

The only thing fishy about this restaurant, is the quality of the sushi. It was a great place to satisfy my craving. The atmosphere was good, I especially liked the black curtains that surrounded my booth, which offered a secluded feeling – my own sanctuary. I’m also a fan when I can gulp down the last of my water, lean over to take a bite of sushi and by the time I’ve looked back over – my glass is full already. The waitress was practically a ninja, and a quiet one at that, which I appreciated since I didn’t want to chat with half of a fish in my mouth. The best part of the meal was the complimentary to-go cups our waitress offered AND the delightful mints that washed away the fishy breath. A great evening was had by all! TIPS&TRICKS: * Make sure to get a reservation, everyone knows about this gem of a restaurant. * Take advantage of the location, especially in the winter, there are lights surrounding the square which make for a nice walk. There was also a band performing right outside too, which made my wait more pleasant. * Try the Mango Roll, it was freaking delightful. * Be sure to get some Sumo Samplers and the Dynamite to get your started!
