Sad that this place is closed, I thought it was such a cool concept and the new place they had at the Village apartment complex was beautiful! I loved the fireplace and just thought they did such a good job with the place. I wish I would have come here more often when it was still open but I remember trying the savory crepes and loving them.(Ham and cheddar cheese crêpe I think it was?)

Met the owner once a little over 3 years ago. HUGE jerk. No idea why my parents pushed me so hard to go out with him. Sure he was nice to them, he was trying to sell them something!(he had a summer job). But hey, people change. Maybe he’s like super nice now, who knows. Not that his food has anything to do w/his personality… ANYWAYS, on our sham of a «date» he made me his signature«awful waffle» and it was pretty good. It wasn’t anything to brag about like he thought it was, but it was still yummy and I’d eat it for breakfast. So yea, it’s decent.

Apparently they’ve closed. Went by this morning with my daughter about 10:15 am and no sign of life… doors locked. Went out of my way to come here. I’m not from Utah. Anyone no what is up with this business?

I went to its old location, and my only complaint was serving size and pricing. I never tried the crepes, but the waffles are solid. They have a sauce, I can’t remember the name because it was long and strange, plus it was 2 years ago, but it tasted just like teddy grahams! A fun, interesting place to go. It gets 4 stars for creativity.

Been there a couple times + enjoyed it. Waffles were sweet on their own, adding anything on top makes them outta control sweet. Crêpe was unusually tough, hard to cut with a fork and everything seemed a bit over priced. The waffles weren’t light + crispy but dense and cakelike.

This location is a cool hangout, both for students and anyone passing through. The tables are chalkboards so you can get artistic while waiting. Great for kids and great for a treat on a date. I wish they had stroopwaffles!

Lots of people love this place. I didn’t think it was bad, just too rich for my taste.

Had I joined Unilocal before my move to Provo, you’d have seen at least a few dozen check-ins here. Do I find these to be the most authentic Belgian gourmet waffles around? Probably not, but I kept coming back. Why? The Awful Waffle is at a great location for any student living near BYU campus. The staff have always been friendly, and are ready to help a first-time waffler decide what to get. I love the liege, but am also a fan of the Brussels waffle and crepes. The frites are fantastic as well. Good location. Nice ambience. Chalkboard tables. Good waffles.

The BBQ pizza is awesome and the frites are great(lots of fun different fry sauces). The breakfast crepes are really good. Fun atmosphere.

Love this place, everything I’ve tried is fresh and homemade and most important, delicious. People are friendly and place is spacious(think VERY kid friendly) My fav is the waffles my husband LOVES their pizza. Parking on street is sometimes hard but theres parking lots on either side that always have plenty of space.

Since they switched locations and moved, I’ve only been back once. I still think they have the best crepes. Not a fan of their frites or savory crepes, but I only tried them once before they moved to the bigger location. My preference for waffles has changed to the truck around the valley. We tried one of their pizzas that was similar to a taco or fiesta or something. It was decent.

I met some friends here and was astounded by the apartment complex it sits in. Clearly the largest thing in the«student ghetto» south of campus. The waffle was delicious, with fresh strawberries and cream cheese icing. I liked the texture, crispness, and flavor of the waffle itself. It was a nice treat.

So I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but The Awful Waffle definitely lives up to it’s name of having awful-tasting waffles. First time I tried them they were giving away free samples of several different waffles… I couldn’t even finish eating them. I threw them away because they were thick, tough, and/or too sugary. I asked if they could make a plain waffle(no sugar) but they said that was impossible because they add the sugar to the batter… Which made me think, «How hard is it to NOT add an ingredient?» I’ve always been a fan of crepes so I decided to give those a try and I’m SO glad I did. They’re not the best I’ve ever had, but they are pretty darn good! Especially for Provo, I would highly recommend ordering their crepes. They give you loads of toppings, unlike other crêpe places I’ve been to, and they’re slightly cheaper than they’re competitors too. I usually order a strawberry, banana, nutella crêpe and I have not been disappointed once. They tend to put a LOT of sauce on whatever you’re ordering, so if you don’t want your dish to be too sweet or sour or whatever then tell them to put half the amount of sauce on and it’s usually the right amount. The Awful Waffle has moved into The Village at South Campus apartment complex and the restaurant is PHENOMENAL looking. Has a really cool urban feel, similar to Chipotle’s interior design. It’s the perfect place to chill and enjoy a crêpe and waaaay better than that dinky, ghetto shack they previously had.

Went two weeks ago and got the Liege waffle with grandma’s syrup and fresh strawberries. It was a good decision! The waffle didn’t look very big when I picked it up, but it was very dense and filling. It was sweet on it’s own, but the syrup and strawberries really made the experience complete. I was pretty full with about a third of the waffle to go, but couldn’t stop myself from eating it! The service was really good. The girl that took my order was extremely helpful in recommendations, including which sauce to try with the frites I ordered. The frites weren’t bad, but weren’t exceptional either. The sauce I tried(Brazil, I think?) had a curry like base, and was addicting. Even though the frites weren’t my favorite, I ended up eating a lof of them because of the sauce. The location is a little hard to find, and parking can be a bit of a mess. The atmosphere is lacking since you’re under a hot tin canopy at noon, but you know what you’re getting into when you pull in to park. Don’t go here expecting a romantic experience. I gave the place 4 stars, mostly because I really enjoyed the waffle and will have a hard time pulling myself away from that order to try other things. If they could find a way to make the pickup window closer to where the seating is, and lower the temperature of the seating area(fans, mist, etc.), they’d probably increase their traffic. Give it a shot, I look forward to returning there and getting more of the same!

While a little hard to find and park it was worth the trouble.(Look in the parking lot NE of the Sinclair.) I loved their frites(fries), my liege waffle was perfect with strawberries, and my belgium crêpe tasted like home. My husband devoured his liege waffle with Speculoos and bananas. Others in our group had the savory crêpe and raved about it. I give it three stars because the service was very slow. They need more than one girl to run the whole place. And it pales when compared to Bruges in SLC.

Well, the waffle wasn’t awful per se, but it wasn’t amazing either. Very dense. The Nutella I got on it was great(but when is Nutella not delicious?) Jury is still out on the crepes. We ordered one with Grandma Nellie’s caramel syrup and the syrup completely and utterly abominated the crêpe flavor. It was good syrup, but a little too butterscotchy for my taste, and very overpowering. I wouldn’t make a special trip to Provo for this place, but I wouldn’t avoid it like the plague either. Ah, ambivalence, my old friend, we meet again.

Eh. Not impresses. I’m really thinking 2.5 Service: 2.5 There was only 1 worker and 3 of us in line. We waited FOREVER. I didn’t think it took that long to make a waffle. I guess they’re living up to their name :) Taste: 3 The waffle wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t that great either. We tried a few different kinds. I was thinking they’d have other crêpe options besides sweet. We went there for lunch expecting to get egg, ham and spinach or some sort… nope. Don’t get me wrong, I like powdered sugar, nutella, and fruit, but just thought it should offer more than«dessert» crepes. I bought a Groupon so I wasn’t out that much money. We didn’t finish all the punches on our punch card and I ended up giving it to my brother who goes to school at the«Y»(BYU not YCMA, ha). In summary, I would go back if someone paid for me or it was late night and I was craving sweet. Other than that, nah…

2 stars for trying to bring a waffle/crêpe joint to Provo. Minus 3 stars for the way it tastes. The waffle was a solid, dense brick of dough. I know what a yeast waffle is, and it is a thing of beauty when done right. It shouldn’t be like a breakfast waffle, it should have more of a bite to it. But that bite shouldn’t require me to see my dentist afterward. Nutella can hide a multitude of sins, but when I sat looking at my waffle once the Nutella had been strategically licked off, I was done. Also, and I don’t mean to be overly picky here, but presentation left me wondering. My waffle was presented to me on what appeared to be a styrofoam meat tray(ya know, the one your ammonia-washed ground beef comes on at the grocery store?). The hot waffle melted the styrofoam slightly, and the whole situation just made me cringe a little. You don’t want to be thinking about raw hamburger whilst trying to enjoy a dessert. I fully realize this is my own personal problem, but nonetheless, I feel a little more finesse with the presentation couldn’t hurt. I will mourn for what could have been, Awful Waffle. My husband, however, insists we try you one more time, so maybe we will meet again.

My wife and I just had our first Awful Waffles. It is a nice little outdoor spot right near BYU campus that has delicious fresh made waffles and crepes. With a variety of options from fruit to additional toppings and add on as well as several sauces I have never had before this place is amazing. The smell alone may cause you to become addicted. I had a blackberry crêpe done American style(adding cinnamon, butter and sugar if I recall) and covered in their caramel cream sauce and it was amazing. We also had strawberries and a sauce they had called Speculoos(sp?) which I had never heard of. They advertised it as tasting like Teddy Grahams but it is SSSOOO much better. I told my wife it was like a sweet liquid graham cracker crust. We will CERTAINLY be visiting again VERY soon. My understanding is they are even toying with the addition of a savory menu. Follow them on Facebook to see what develops!
