Wayland Bakery is a classic old-fashioned, vaguely Italian bakery. What it lacks in the frills of, say, Pastiche or a certain«snuggery,» it makes up for in variety. I had a hard time choosing from the selection of bread, cookies, cake slices, fruit bars, eclairs, cream puffs, cheesecake and other sweet treats. There was a case full of adorable frosted sugar cookies, which would be fun to bring into class for a kid’s birthday in lieu of cupcakes. My tiramisu cannoli($ 2.75) was a little bit soggy on the bottom since I came later in the day, but it was pretty tasty. The coffee cream was full of flavor, almost to the point of being overpowering. The chocolate-dipped shell was a nice touch. The woman working at the counter was very friendly and eager to help. There’s an ATM in the store, but there’s also no credit card minimum so it’s just for your convenience. Prices here are very reasonable: I didn’t try a wrap, but they’re only $ 6! A sandwich combo with chips and a cookie is also under $ 6, making this possibly the best lunch deal in the area. I’ll have to investigate and get back to you on that. I don’t think I would travel over to Wayland Square to come here, especially with Silver Star so close, but when I’m in the area I’ll definitely stop in for dessert!

There’s really nothing special about this bakery. I like that it has an old-school feel/vibe, but old school generally denotes good stuff and this is pretty lackluster. Also, they make you ring a bell for service. I get that you’re probably very busy and you bake things on site, and obviously it’s not like you can just bring the oven with you. But come on. I could’ve robbed the place before someone came out to help me. I didn’t know you had to ring a bell for service actually; one of the women in the seating area told me I had to, and when no one came out after that, she went in the back(so I guess she works there?). I was specifically looking for Italian tricolor cookies, after shockingly(or maybe not since this is RI) an unsuccessful trip to Federal Hill. The cashier informed me that, despite already prepared platters containing the cookies, they don’t bake them all the time and I’d have to place a special order of a large quantity. Get outta town. She suggested I purchase one of the overpriced holiday platters so that I could obtain that one cookie. Yeah, no thanks. Any other time I’ve visited, I’ve been sorely disappointed. The canoli shells were soggy by the time I got them home, the sugar cookies have a pleasant shortbread flavor to them but also taste stale every time I get one(and the frosting on it isn’t soft, it’s hard as a rock and inedible), the eclairs had a nice cream to them but the pastry part was terrible. Honestly, now that i think about it, they must just use the same cream puff cake for a lot of those pastries because they all kind of taste the same. I’ve had better cookies at a supermarket. The only decent thing I’ve had is a pizza strip and my mother said the apple pie was good but I didn’t taste it(I brought one to Thanksgiving). As far as I can recall, there aren’t any other bakeries in Wayland Square that offer the selections Wayland Bakery does but I would avoid it altogether and go to the grocery store, Whole Foods, I mean, anywhere else really.

Ordered an assortment of the mini pastries; éclair, cream puffs, and cannoli. They were stale, bland, and extremely generic. Not very well done at all. The worst was the cannoli. I literally spit it out right away. There was some very strange flavor that was sour. I don’t know if it was bad or curdled or what it was but it was absolutely disgusting. Won’t go there again.

I use to go to this bakery when I was in college, and it’s one of the things I miss most about providence. They’re breads are incredibly moist, and their cheesecake is fantastic as well. However, they’re carrot cake is unrivaled. I’ve tried it at almost every bakery I go, but I always am left wanting wayland’s.

I came in for Chicken Caesar wraps with my boyfriend. We left with the wraps, a sticky bun, and a cinnamon stick… First of all, the wraps come out super fast, we waited maybe five minutes. They were delicious. The chicken was moist with the perfect amount of dressing. We basically fought after who got to finish each pastry. I can’t wait to come back and try more!

Great food! Great people! Every single thing from Wayland bakery is delicious and super affordable. You’ll find much more than just mouth watering sweets, they also make fresh wraps, salads and sandwiches. The Greek wrap is my favorite.

I stopped in here recently to try a few things. Ok service, no frills décor. I tried the mini cannoli, cherry slice, lemon square, fudge nut brownie, and banana bread. I hate to say that the only thing I really liked was the cherry slice. Cannoli gets soggy when pre filled and I just didn’t like the flavor of the other things. Maybe there are other good things that I did not try but the flavors were not fresh and sort of off tasting. I will have to stick to my usual bakeries. I highly recommend Deluise for a cheap bakery that never disappoints.

This is a classic neighborhood bakery, here for almost a century, turning out amazing pastries and breads. The prices are an act of charity, especially for this area of Providence, reflecting costs of a decade or two ago. You can tell this is a family business with folks who really care about the product and providing excellent service. I will recommend that you try the cinnamon stick. It is literally the best I’ve ever had. Anything with a buttery pastry that comes out of this bakery is stellar(for example, the rugula). There are also pizzas, calzones, and amazing breads. Support local businesses — you won’t regret stopping in here.

I really love this bakery, mostly because it’s close and they always have something fresh and delicious to buy! I’d much rather stop in here for a loaf of fresh bread than go to a store like whole foods or stop & shop. It’s a small space but they always have something worth trying! Everything I’ve eaten from here has been a delicious surprise.

Love the pizza, and so does my kid. I’m not so into sweets, so I appreciate the savory treats. Possibly the best coffee around Wayland Square.

I came in here thanksgiving eve and got some raisin bread, to make French toast. Omg! One of my better culinary decisions! It was such a hit. Loved the counter staff! Very cordial and helpful.

this review is based on the cannolis that i bought — they are small — only .85c — but not sure how long they have been sitting in the case for — shells were SOGGY! and the filling tasted a little off… wouldn’t return for them… they do offer a lot of other pastries. Plus they offer some savory items — old school bakery and i find that these places are hit or miss

I stumbled into this bakery one afternoon while shopping in Wayland Square. $ 1 cupcakes? The little one fully enjoyed it. She gave it four stars. It’s a small and humble store front with some qualities sweets at a very reasonable price.

I was super-excited to find this old-school bakery down the street from my new apartment. The look is a little dated, but they’re making pastry here — I don’t want innovation, I want deliciousness! And they definitely deliver. They have a huge variety of tasty treats, all at incredibly reasonable prices. This has become my go-to spot when I am invited somewhere for dinner. Who doesn’t love a guest who shows up with dessert? And who doesn’t love being able to get that great dessert at an awesomely low price?

The quintessential neighborhood bakery. Prices are incredible(especially for this part of Providence), product is very solid, and the variety is pretty good – just not someplace you would really go to sit down and catch up w/a friend as the inside is more a storefront than café. Had an incredible vanilla cupcake FORONEDOLLAR [can’t remember the last time that happened]: sweet but not diabetes-inducing sugar/buttercream frosting w/a moist and light cake, lightly chilled but not so much that i couldn’t eat it immediately. a few specialty cupcakes for just another 75 cents more! they also had great frosted sugar cookies for $ 1, bags of 10 non-frosted for $ 3, and larger & fancier Sesame Street fellas for $ 1.75. i will be going back for Cookie Monster soon~

Great neighborhood bakery. Loved my iced coffee and my husband loves their pies! They just got some outdoor seating(although it is essentially in a parking lot) which is nice on a hot day.

Nothing terrible and nothing terribly great. Right on, in the middle, average bakery with solid pastries when you need to cure a sweet craving. However, what you should do is go down to the Portuguese bakery on Ives St. Only a few blocks away and much, much better in terms of selection and quality. No hard feelings, Wayland Bakery. I still enjoyed your free samples! Peace.

this place smells amazing. it smells like grandma’s kitchen, and grandma’s been making everything amazing and vanilla and sugar and(by the way, it’s a store, and everything’s for sale). but let me tell you, the mini cannoli are ~$.85 each, and they’re amazing, and it took me less than a dollar to tell you that. their portuguese sweet bread loaves are gigantic and beautifully fragrant and only $ 3.25. most of the pastries range between 1 – 5 bucks, which is a total steal. the shop sign outside has a wonderful vintage to it. the frosted pastries/cookies looked a little(my 5-year-old did this and it’s for a bake sale) but i’m not into frosting anyhow, so that doesn’t matter. give them some love! get a cannoli. leave happy!

My mom and I stopped here for some breakfast before we headed out of Providence. I got a blueberry muffin, it was fine, nothing spectacular. My mom got something with cranberries and raisins, did not sound appealing to me. I also picked up some dessert items to take my friend in Albany who we would be staying with that night. I got several cannolis and cream puffs. They were all fine, not mouth watering or anything.
