I stopped by here for a coffee and the black forest rum cake a couple weeks ago! Delicious large portions of both — coffee and desert! Happy with the service to table and the pretty presentation too :) A bit pricey. but hey. black forest rum cake??? Yes please!!! ;)

This café serves my favorite vegetarian sandwich in Princeton: The Amadeus I. This sandwich has pine nuts, hummus, perfectly ripe avocado, organic alpha sprouts, and multi-grain bread. Sandwiches are a bit delicate, but personally I think their portion sizes are perfect.

The cakes are great, though quite pricey. Relatively relaxed atmosphere, great for an informal work meeting over coffee and dessert. The lunch items(paninis etc) are completely overpriced for what you get, but good for a quick fix if you need to eat as well. What bothered me: their cappuccinos come in one size only(16oz), which has only 1 shot of espresso in it — all coffee places I have *ever* been to put 2 shots of espresso in a 16oz. But ok, fine. If you ask to have an extra shot of espresso, they actually charge the full charge of an espresso(so your cappuccino comes to $ 7.80 !!!) — even for this, you could say ok, fine, that’s just how they do things(although a double shot 16oz at small world is $ 4.80 and a double-shot grande 16oz at Starbucks is $ 3.85). insult to injury — after de facto ordering and paying for TWO drinks(single-shot cap + single espresso), they won’t give you two stupid stamps on your frequent coffee card. Two different employees gave me attitude about this(it’s 1 drink for 1 stamp) — SUCH a stupid thing to lose customers over. And I come here all.the.time. Really a shame :(

Love this place for latte and apple strudel. Nice outdoor seating with wifi makes it perfect for mornings.

Great service and an excellent weekend brunch buffet. It’s a real gem in the otherwise desolate Princeton breakfast scene.

This is a horrible place. I went here on Easter Sunday. The lady with a ring on her tongue refuses to sit me with a child, claiming the all the tables are booked. Although no people were seen. I am not sure is it because of my race? Or the child. But I am not going here any more. It is way overpriced as well. Would not recommend!!!

If you’re thinking about eating here or having a cup of coffee, thing again. Today, my wife and I came in here despite a poor experience not too long ago in order to have a sandwich and some iced tea. Bad choice! Upon receiving our food I noticed that my turkey sandwich had two different cheeses on the sandwich. I know, I know, two cheeses! That sounds awesome right? No! They were both Swiss, but one happened to be very old and was being mixed in with the new fresh stuff. In fact, it was so old that there was green mold on it. Pleasant right? We asked for the manager, who after a conversation with I can tell you he has very horrible people skills. He came off as if it was our fault and how dare we not eat his rotten cheese. The customer service here is horrendous! He was rude and obnoxious. I would never try this place again.

Pleasant atmosphere. The owner is very gracious and attends to details with care. It’s a nice place to sit and meet a friend, quiet enough to talk. The brunch on weekend has a lovely option with beautiful fruit, omelettes(which are very tasty and come quickly), pastries and an array of meats and cheeses. They have books for kids, and are very sweet with children. The atmosphere is calm. The only downside is that the prices are a bit steep. The outdoor seating is also very congenial.

If you can’t get to Europe and want an authentic European culinary experience, this is your place! Went there for brunch recently and got the breakfast buffet which included a very impressive spread of different breads, fresh fruits, granola, yogurt and your choice of eggs prepared how you like on an open stove. Not to mention the incredible European desserts, authentic espresso and lattes or just a great cup of coffee. I got an omelette called, «The Berliner» and it was amazing. Very highly recommended!

Wanted a place in downtown Princeton to take some European visitors for a late afternoon coffee and snack. First time at Café Vienna. 3 exceptional desserts, coffees, tea and a latte were just great. In order of favorites, Black Forest cake(awesome), apple strudel(yummy) Chocolate cake(great but too rich for more than a bite) were enjoyed by all. The coffee was served in large China cups and the tea service was like a fancy hotel. While crowded, not noisy so we had an easy time sharing time with our friends. Not sure why some negative reviews since this was such a nice experience. Did not check out the food but for caffeine and a sugar binge, the best place I can now think of in Princeton.

This place is a little piece of Europe here in Princeton. The coffee brewed by a German WMF machine is unparalleled in smoothness locally. The croissant and croissant sandwiches are delicious. The atmosphere is appealing and bright and unrushed. The owner is lovely and makes an effort to greet you and ensure you have a positive experience. During warmer days it is wonderful to sit at a café table with an umbrella and a latte and pretend you are in Leipzig or Munich. I havent been to Vienna! I never tire of this place. Great for coffee meetings too! Marzipan cake is special too!

I got the cucumber hummus sandwich on ciabatta and it was okay – not bad, not good enough to go back and get it again. The place was empty, so I’d hoped my food would come out quickly but unfortunately the two people working there were tied up with a catering order. Maybe it was a large last minute order or someone called out, but if I had known that I’d have to wait 20+ minutes for a cold sandwich to go, I would have gone elsewhere. After 20 minutes, I asked how much longer it would be since I was very hungry after a workout and debating leaving, and they felt bad telling me I had to wait longer until they finished their catering order and offered me a cookie to eat while I waited.

This café has the opportunity to really excel here in Princeton, however they need to fine tune a lot. My family and I came here for Sunday brunch, and since there’s not a lot of options in Princeton for a family sit down spot, the outdoor seating and ambiance from the sidewalk definitely called to us. While there’s not a huge selection of seats, the owner did tell us that they are looking to expand the sidewalk seating. This would be wonderful as the area and concept is much needed here in the US. We opted for the $ 15 buffet. This includes oj(pretty sure it wasn’t fresh squeezed though), pastries, breads, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, granola and fruit… and also a choice of an egg dish. They have a nice selection of omelet options and are made right in front of you. Since it was a Sunday, it was pretty busy and took about 20 mins for the eggs to come out. Not a huge deal, but the«buffet» selections were a little weak. Especially with so many people. Felt a bit cheap also. They could have really pulled out some great selections and made it super appealing. However it felt more like a hotel buffet. The best part of the whole breakfast was the powdered donut holes. They were really delicious, but not healthy at all. And in my opinion regular coffee should have been included in the breakfast. Kinda lame that it wasn’t. The service… While everyone seemed to be working really hard, there was no real order. Everyone was rushing around in chaos. I had to ask for forks and the girl said, «when they’re ready someone will bring them out.» 5 mins later we were finally not eating with our hands. I gave 3 stars as I think this place could be a great little café to sit outside and have a coffee with friends or solo… but as everything was not quite there yet in terms of service and food I hold to my 3 stars. Definitely give this place a chance at some point, but keep expectations low.

Unlike other reviewers, I found the service to be very good, but I also came at a time where it wasn’t that crowded. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the restraint itself was spacious and clean. This restaurant is at an awkward place of being too casual for a nice brunch, but too formal for an everyday breakfast. And definitely on the pricey side for what it offers. The reason it earned four stars is that it is home to the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. Fresh bread and vegetables, and a perfectly cooked egg, 10⁄10.

I was initially really excited about this place since I’m vegan but everything here has been a pretty big disappointment. I first ordered an almond milk latte which was alright but pretty expensive for the size. A couple days later I was starving and wanted a nice, filling salad and so I went for the Amadeus salad. The menu claims it has avocado, hummus and all this stuff in it but I pretty much just a got a few leaves with random pieces of avocado and tomato. There was no dressing or hummus(which was really what I wanted) and the lady shoved it in a white paper bag really carelessly(sideways…) without even putting on the lid. And I paid $ 10 just for that. I ended up having to get lunch again somewhere else. This place is just a really big disappointment and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

I made a trip to check out Café Vienna after seeing it on a list of 20 best bakeries in New Jersey I found the coffee pleasant; the espresso was solid, and the cold brew was refreshing and complex. The sandwich I had was well conceived and executed, with quality meats and just the right amount of tapenade. Service was warm and responsive. Surprisingly, the most underwhelming element of my experience was the bread on the sandwich. The bread looked appealing, but lacked texture and flavor(my companion thought that it tasted like a hamburger bun). I liked the beverages and the ambience of Café Vienna, but with the top 20 recommendation and the high prices, I had hoped for better bread. Perhaps I will have a better impression upon trying a dessert or pastry option on a future visit.

I’m always excited to try small independent businesses in downtown Princeton. The good: the ambiance here is relaxing. It feels spacious inside, and in warmer months, one can enjoy outdoor seating. Unfortunately, the food and service were disappointing. The guy helping me recommended their version of a Sacher torte and the fennel seed cake. I went with two slices of the torte, and on a whim, a slice of the fennel seed cake. To my shock, he then started to wrap them in plain paper. I asked if he could use small cake boxes instead. Apparently not. They didn’t have any… in stock… ever? I’m not sure which, but he quickly finished wrapping the slices, tied the package with plain string, and dumped it haphazardly in a plain bag. Welcome to crumbland at over $ 20! When I got home and carefully unwrapped the package… yup, an unsalvageable mound of crumbs. All might not be lost, however. Ever hopeful, I scooped the crumbs on to separate plates for a tasting. What a disappointment! I have had the original Sacher-Torte and the Eduard-Sacher-Torte. Both are relatively light, moist, and chocolatey, with barely a hint of sweetness from the jam, and a chocolate icing that’s to die for. They’re served with whipped cream. This wasn’t even close! Sadly, I thought the fennel seed cake was the more interesting, and I’m glad I added it rather than only getting two«slices» of their dried chocolate cake. The cake crumbs were all very dry and stale. I suspect the parent cakes had been sitting around for days, if not a week. Bottom line: If you’re grabbing dessert, there are way better bakeries in town.

I am all about patronizing smaller businesses so this was definitely a welcome addition to the community. The staff is super friendly and took the time to answer all of my questions. They mainly feature tea, coffee, and cakes, but they also feature a Bavarian breakfast on weekends, and I was told they will have sandwiches on some days for lunch. I like a place with a no-frills menu because that usually means they know what they are doing and they do it well. I can’t comment on authenticity, as I have never been to Vienna and napkins placed a certain way does not bother me. All I know is the cappuccino I had was off the chain. It was different from say, Small World. More foamy I would say. But well-made nonetheless. I also had a slice of the flourless chocolate cake so I could feel a little less guilt with my dessert. It was a huge slice and yet I was fighting to savor every bite slowly. I love the outside seating area. What a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday after yoga. I have already raved about it to my family so I anticipate a return visit in the very near future. Great overall first impression!
