I like this place. Warm, inviting atmosphere and pretty great coffee. I will say, there is better coffee in the area, but for not being a chain, being local, and not inundated with hipster attitude, this place is a really refreshing find.

Love a small shop that roasts their own beans. Plenty of offerings. The picture of the chalk board on Unilocal with all the coffee options was correct. They have french press but no pour over or aeropress or Chemex. The Ethiopian french press was okay. The aroma and initial flavor were subtle and weak. The fruit and nut flavors were not expressed properly. As the cup cooled the coffee improved. A noted a slight burnt flavor. My guess is that the roast profile is off on this batch and that the drum needs cleaning or there were some leftover beans which burned in this batch. Love the roaster. Looks like a nice setup. The rest of the group tried expresso based flavored drinks and were satisfied. They have plenty of seating and some pastries.

I love Hattie’s. Dave and Gretchen are wonderful owners and they have such a friendly and positive staff. I don’t drink coffee so I can’t attest to the quality, but their tea selection is excellent — most notably, the Moroccan Mint. Hattie’s is a great place to pop in for a drink, meet a friend for coffee, or to lounge with a book or newspaper while sipping your bev. For those with an appetite, Hattie’s offers a large selection of delectable homemade pastries, as well.

My first time here from out of town. I enjoy visiting local venues for coffee, and this place is quant and fun. Staff is friendly and attentive. Pastries are fresh and awesome. Fresh flowers on each table are the finishing touch to a delightful coffee experience.

Oh Hattie’s, you are so close(to where I live) but so far from my coffee dreams and expectations. It just takes a really long time to get your drink and besides that pretty great coffee cake(which I think is shipped in from New England), nothing tastes all that great. Not great, not good. I would rather drive to… anywhere. Is it the vibe? I’m thinking maybe.

This is my favorite coffee shop! I love the smoothies and new juices. My favorite is the garden goddess, easy way to get some veggies in. It’s so nice to be able to get something quick and healthy! The staff is really nice and seem to really care about the customer. Highly recommend! :).

Friendly service, great selection of teas, and everything else you couldn possibly want. Discovered it on accident because Hen house across the parking lot did not have anybody serving The Roasterie coffee. Glad I found them. There is a pineapple guava tea that I recommend trying with honey and a touch of almond milk!

If I lived in Prairie Village I would definitely be a regular customer! Delicious! I ordered a large pumpkin spice latte and a chocolate chip scone. The coffee was made really quickly and it was delicious. The chocolate chip scone was unbelievable. Delicious. It was not overly dry and not overly sweet. I would order and eat that scone every day. Hattie’s is a Prairie Village gem and has plenty of seating and study space. They sell their own roasted coffee. This is a homerun all around!

Hattie is what it is– great coffee and great location, nice traditional coffee house in a vibrant growing retail space in Prairie Village. Seems somehow dated in the new context of area upstarts. Some face lift needed to attract younger clientele.

Great coffee. The owners and other baristas are always so helpful. They take great care to make sure your drink is just right AND they have almond milk as well as gluten free snack options.

Used to be really great a couple years ago. Now it’s a poor espresso tasting, way over cluttered, & outdated shop. There is just so much clutter and old stuff jammed everywhere that it’s overwhelming. The only reason I’d choose this place over another one in the area is… To support local? Probably not even that. Advice to the owners: Have someone who’s trendy and professional come and redo the interior completely. Keep clutter off the counters and be excited when a customer chooses to come to your shop. Also, go taste Parisi Café’s espresso and compare it to yours… Find out why the huge difference and master it. You’ll have a cult following and crush your local competition undoubtedly.

What a shame. Hattie’s Fine Coffee is sitting on a cash cow location. This area of Prairie Village, Kansas is experiencing a growth spurt of redevelopment and economic resurgence. The expendable income within a 5 – 10 mile wide radius is what businesses dream about. The beautiful shopping area that Hattie’s is located oozes with potential. As quaint and charming as Hattie’s may appear from the outside, it’s rather disappointing once you walk through the front door. Having visited Hattie’s a few times over the years and received decent coffee and a few good espresso based drinks, I’ve always attempted to overlook the inconsistent quality, spotty wifi, and overall coffee shop ambiance because of the local owners and great customer service in the past. Therefore, upon walking inside on my recent visit I was surprised at the lack of upkeep inside the establishment. Dust, clutter, outdated décor, and more clutter and dust as you proceed towards the rear of the coffee shop. Not wanting to hammer too much on a small local business, I’ll leave my comments out in regards to their furniture, lighting, fixtures, etc. Sorta depressing to be honest. All that aside, you immediately notice the same shortcomings from behind the counter. Seriously, how do you run a coffee business with stuff scattered everywhere near the prep area? The espresso machine has seen better days. The menu board is cluttered and very confusing. The few bags of «in-house» roasted beans looked old. Dirty dishes were scattered about. No point in commenting on the brew equipment because you get my drift. Oh, the one freaking bottle of Torani syrup(with blue label in case the owners read this) I noticed next to the espresso machine looked old and faded. Yes, I actually walked the coffee shop from front to back and visually inspected everything I’ve mentioned all while the one sole Barista(using this term loosely) was still washing dirty dishes in plain site of any customer walking through the door. Not a hello, not a nod, not a glance. Nothing! This went on for a good 5 – 7 minutes. But you know what… stuff happens. No biggie. I’m gonna be patient and try some of this locally roasted coffee and espresso. While I’m patiently waiting to be acknowledged I proceed to check out the in-house Diedrich Coffee Roaster sitting to the side of the counter. The coffee roaster appeared to be an older black VR5kg series roasting machine. At least the exhaust/smoke duct work looked clean. I couldn’t believe what looked and felt like rust located on various parts of the stainless steel plating and around the cooling bin. Very surprised indeed. Finally, I grab the Barista’s attention and request a Toddy. Guess what? I’m told«we’re out of Toddy». Really? No toddy and no explanation at 10:30 am on a weekday? I walk across the street to the Hen House and grab a few things. I debate between grabbing a coffee from the Roasterie while inside or do I return to Hattie’s instead. I opt for Hattie’s and regret doing so. Strike three. This is ridiculous and it’s a damn shame that a local business that has survived this location for 14 years just doesn’t seem to get it. Mark my word, somebody is gonna come into Prairie Village not named Starbucks or the Roasterie(inside Hen House) and actually open a cool funky coffee shop. That area is primed and ready for a local roaster/coffee shop owner to provide fantastic coffee, latte’s, cappuccinos, macchiatos, baked goods, reliable wifi, ambiance, trained Barista’s, and whatever else a serious business owner who has a passion for coffee can provide the community. Most of us root for local business owners to succeed. BUT, the ones that appear to become lackluster and stagnant have nobody to blame but themselves when corporate conglomerates come to town and run the small moms & pops out of business. Again, what a damn shame!

What is great find in Prairie Village! I was in the area wasting time before an appointment and typed«coffee shop» into my GPS. It led me straight to Hattie’s and I couldn’t have been happier. I ordered a blueberry scone and an iced chai and ended up chatting with the owner for quite some time. He is passionate and dedicated to his shop. I loved all the comfortable seating and the«homey» feel of the place. My snack was delicious and I can’t wait to come back again.

love having Hattie’s within walking distance of my home. it’s a nice place to come after dinner with my husband and toddler. their chai frappes are phenomenal! their coffee is also good. their baked goods are just okay, but I like the variety that they do have. it’s a very relaxed atmosphere inside… they even have a few toys for little ones to play with while their parents sip their lattes. it definitely has a local coffee house feel, which is always a nice alternative to starbucks.

When I left Saint Louis last year, I was left pining for Park Avenue Coffee’s Peanut Butter Cup frappicano. I have found an equivalent here on the other side of the state, one of Hattie’s signature frappes: Peanut Butter Chocolate. Grabbed one and sipped it outside while catching up with a friend. Good service and good coffee!

I have a certain fondness for this place. It has saved me from writer’s block on several occasions, and many random facts have been learned while sitting at the large, round table in the back. The not so great: The-not-so-great includes the baked goods and the mochas. I don’t know why, but their mocha doesn’t taste super sweet or super chocolate-ly. Also, some of the baked goods are AMAZING, others are okay, and the rest are dry and not worth eating. They also have a display case filled with different«snack packs»(i.e. hummus, pita chips, and red pepper). Honestly, their food isn’t the best — I come here for the coffee. The great: First of all, they roast their own beans. They may roast them too much for some palates, but if I want an especially strong cup of coffee I opt for the sumatra — french pressed of course! They have about 10 types of beans from different regions and countries they roast in house.(I’ll write an update with more details next time I’m there to refresh my memory). Their lattes are good, if you know what to order. A key thing to remember is that their default is skim milk, so be sure to tell them what your preferred milk is when you order. And skip the mocha — I would opt for vanilla or another syrup. The Chocolate-Raspberry latte is a nice choice too. They also make amazing blended espresso drinks and yummy jet tea smoothies. This is a great place to people watch. Many people are constantly in and out of this shop. The atmosphere is great for hanging out or studying. The music is a little on the obnoxious side, but nothing headphones won’t block out. Like I said previously, I’ve spend many hours here studying. I like an environment that is busy so I can look up and enjoy the happenings around me, but not so much activity that I can’t tune it out. Hattie’s fits the bill perfectly — and they have caffeinated beverages to keep me going!
