Acapulco bar and grill

We came in at about 5:30 pm on a Monday night. Maybe it was because the Badgers were playing for the NCAA Title later that night, but we were the only ones there. It’s a nice looking place. The service was very fast and friendly. We were served chips and salsa which were decent. The menu is quite large. Several pages front and back crammed top to bottom with choices. Mostly the same things offered in a variety of combos. Also, they do serve burgers and other sandwiches. I ordered a combo which included a ground beef enchilada, a shredded chicken tamale with green sauce, a ground beef taco, refried beans, and rice. The rice and beans were pretty boring but edible. Actually, that can be said of the entire meal. It wasn’t bad at all. Just kind of boring. My oldest daughter had an enchilada and taco combo. My youngest an enchilada combo. My oldest is of the same opinion as I and my youngest didn’t eat much. I must also add that I ate my taco last and yes it had begun the sogging process. However, I’ve never had a taco at a Mexican restaurant that wasn’t a little soggy when saved until the end.

Being from California and always having heard about how bad Mexican food is anywhere else, I was pretty hesitant to eat at this place, but decided to give it a try anyway. I really wanted Carne Asada tacos, but there was no way I was paying $ 13 for a tacos, so I got the Carne Asada plate instead for the same price. I was surprised at how good it actually was. It was better than this one restaurant I went to recently on the famous Olvera St in LA. My husband got a combo plate and he was please with the enchilada and chile rellano, but he only took a bite of his hard shelled taco, which he said was really bad. I was surprised they didn’t have any Tapatio or any other hot sauce, but they make their own which was more of a salsa to me, but it was really good! It was pretty expensive for what it was, but I was impressed.

Not a good experience. When we walked in, almost turned around and left… should have. Poor food, kids meals tasted horrible, very old tasting grease or something that made the fried food disgusting. Taco Bell would have been better. Price was very high on top of bad food. Host and waitress were fine.
