I really don’t like bar pizza but if you do, this is the place for you. I like it here because it’s very comfortable and inviting and there are many pasta and salad dishes for me to choose from. Great place to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

This one of THE best places for pizza! I’ve been going there since the late 70’s when they had ball and chains and German spears with shields on the walls and the bathroom had cowboy style swinging doors after you went through the main doors. also they would pass pizza orders through a small window between dinner horn and the braskellar, It’s just a nice place, kinda small so you may have to wait in the summertime. but it has changed now, basically back then it was a bar. It has a large bar up front with a few tvs and about 15 tables with chairs and about 15 booths along the walls. the pizza is freshly made made with fresh veggies from the golden harvest in kittery. the cheese is cut from a big block so it’s not from processed cheese, it’s the best pizza around and maybe in New England, also the prices range from 7.50 to slightly over 12.00 with a loaded pizza, tap beer is around 3.00 to 6.00 per draft beer. they have salads, pizza, subs, sides dishes, and pasta also! it’s easy to get to, right off Rt1 south and the parking is pretty good, you can park out front in the dinner horn part or out back where the entrance is. getting out and turn left on Rt1 isn’t that good in the summertime since theres alot of tourist but just take a right and turn around at the light or turn right at the light and keep going that leads into downtown Portsmouth and you can get back on 95 for either direction

Great local spot. Good pizza and a nice selection of cold draft beers. The other dishes such as the nachos and potato skins are good and the Greek Mezethakia(Greek sausage, olives, feta, peperchini and tomatoes with crispy bread) is great with beer or wine. Good servers and a relaxed atmosphere.

This largish, old style restraunt on the main drag is an easy destination if in the area. Descent food, excellent service, full bar and a quality ambiance.

Wow! a relaxing reasonably priced place in Portsmouth with personality? NOWAY I too had passed by this place for YEARS. So glad I started the new year out right with a lunch at the Brat. The retro atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing — something that’s getting to be extremely rare in the area — so sick of the wanna be high end Portsmouth scene. As a fan, and patron over my life, of several other German restaurants I was super shocked there wasn’t at least ONE German beer or tap. Come on guys — not even a low rate St. Pauli’s? Just saying it would be a nice touch. Had a chix parm, friend had lasagna, split a potato skins. All good — good sauce, cheese, not over priced, nothing to complain about. Great place to dip in and chill. I’m looking forward to going back — unless they start selling oysters and cucumber martinis them I’m out.

A nice relaxing, traditional New England Pub with great food and cold beer. Friendly staff, they were out of Shrimp Pesto Pizza so we tried the«Dilemma», great pizza!

I save my Unilocal reviews for amazing or horrific dining experiences — unfortunately, this was not an amazing dining experience. Went to Bratskellar on a busy Saturday evening, sat quickly, and enjoyed the old school, local pub atmosphere. Started off great — quickly acknowledged, delivered menus and brought drinks. The chilled beer mugs helped to make up for the very limited selection, but everything went downhill from there. The nachos were what you’d expect, the waiter forgot an item from our order, and practically ignored us throughout the rest of the evening despite empty glasses, a dirty table, and multiple exchanged glances. The pizza we ordered(pepperoni and a spinach/mushroom) was just a bit better than frozen from the grocery store, much to our dismay. We wanted to like this place, but unfortunately won’t be back due to the abysmal service.

ICE cold beer and wicked good pizza. We love the Brat! I always cross my fingers that I’ll get to sit in the bar since it’s usually busy each time we are there. I can never decide between a bratwurst pizza or meatball sub so I usually get both meatballs and bratwurst on a pizza, YUM! They are personal size but I can never eat the whole thing. The wings are really good, super crispy since they are cooked in the oven. Best potato skins anywhere. The staff is really nice and they remember you. I really like watching them make the food; they definitely have a system.

Great specialty pizzas are individual sized, our favorite is the Cappy. They also have a good selection of beers. If you’re looking for seafood the Dinner Horn is right next door part of the same restaurant.

We love the food here. However every time we eat here we say it will be the last time. But we love the pizza so we keep coming back. I do not understand why the waitstaff never comes back to refill our drinks. They are not free refills so it would actually benefit them to refill our drinks. The past times we have eaten here we sit and eat w no refill on drinks. The waiter walks by us 10 times and never stops to ask if we need a refill. Last night again we leave with saying this is the last time. Maybe we will just start bringing our own water or soda with us.

I’ve been a bratskeller fan for 40 years and come in faithfully. You have the best pub food, coldest beer, service and by far the best wings. Lately there have been some changes… Thank you for bringing back the fries! Would you please bring back the original pepperoncini. Without the original fries and pepperoncini it’s a 4 star rating.

Sad to say after many many years of patronage this place is slipping. What was once a vibrant ‘local’ hangout has continued to decline. The menu is virtually unchanged but the execution has. Pizzas consistantly have become more dry and are less caringly prepared. The once mouth watering wings are either fried beyond recognition or have only a trace of cooked outer skin. The waitstaff have divested themselves of pride in the product and its backed by the management. If you are looking to relive old memories here id say keep the ones you have and move on.

Read the reviews and had to come check the place out, and so glad I did. If you’re new to this area let me start out by saying that there seems to be great local flavor restaurants on every block off Route 1 coming in from Maine and they all seem appealing, so to pick from the plethora of choices was a chore but I’m glad I went with this place. As soon as you come in the front of the place you realize it’s actually two restaurants. The Dinnerhorn and the bratskellar pub. As soon as you walk in the pub it immediately has the European feel. The server was very gracious and on point. The pizza menu is just enough to be interesting and at the same time not so much where you feel like you can’t pick a pie. All the pizzas are 10“and it’s more than enough to fill you up. I got the meat lover’s and their home brew Root beer. Both were excellent! ! Sausage and the meatball on the pizza tasted home made and the crust was perfect. I only wish I could have sampled the sandwiches. Always next time.

Just came in for lunch and beer, the menu is very very limited although the food coming out of the kitchen did look good. Not a bad beer selection but more impressed that they were all under $ 4

A family haunt of ours for literally decades. The Aegean, need I say more? Love it. Warm, friendly staff, never an empty glass. Great restaurant to bring the kids to as well.

I’m glad I finally tried the Bratskellar. I’ve passed by this place so many times and wondered about it since there were always cars in the parking lot — usually a good sign. Well, I love this place now and have gone back a few times. The wings are perfect as they are spicy and crispy. They are easily in my top 3 places for wings now. The pizza is tasty too and they are all personal sized. The 70’s style pub has a warm and inviting environment. The staff are great and the customers are all in a good mood creating a lively atmosphere. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Driven by this place a thousand times… Finally went in… Excellent pizza… They call it Greek Pizza… Good service… Super nice bathrooms(odd, I know)… The atmosphere could do with a face lift, but it was an inexpensive good meal.

Retro 70s orange booths: check Exposed wooden beams: check Faux-German décor: check Friendly staff: check remodeled bathrooms: check(a pleasant surprise) My wife and I were on the tail end of 14 hours of driving when she found this place(thanks local Unilocalers for the reco!), and it was great. Everybody in there was a local, and everyone was super friendly. If you’re confused, it’s behind the fancy seafood restaurant. The draft selection was good. Most beers come in 12 oz. mugs. The pizza was the thing to get. I got the pepperoni and sausage, and my wife got the Aegean, and both were amazing. The sauce was delicious(NOT sweet) and the crust was perfect(not too thick, not too thin, just right). If I lived near this place, I would gain 30 pounds, because I would eat here all the time.
