Wind Thin Tree Service

Amazing service. We have 4 four mature pine/​fir trees needing periodic pruning. Although communication was initially vague, the response was as scheduled. What surprised me, though, was the service itself: I think I counted. 6 – 7 workers swarming my backyard. They gave each other suggestions, tools, and a lot of trust/​respect. The work and cleanup were done well and thoroughly. Plus they trimmed a front yard dogwood. Gratis. I WILL call them again next time we need tree tending!

I do hope this review isn’t screened into oblivion because while I did not PAY for the tree removal, I did, however BENEFIT from my neighbor picking Wind Thin to do so. And the LARGE Pine in question was a leaner. Listing hard to starboard directly towards MY HOUSE but belonged to a neighbor. And I was home when Wind Thin did two different jobs while my neighbors were NOT. So I hereby claim the right of review… count that as TWO reviews one across the street, and one two doors away.
I noticed from the other reviews that «grumpy neighbors» seem to be quite a concern when commissioning a tree service. Well, this is the second time Wind Thin recently did large tree removals for neighbors on my street and they seem to have a franchise going in my neighborhood. And no grumpy neighbors on our street… well, maybe… but not because of these guys.
In a nutshell, the crew was fast, efficient, worked around power lines and cleaned up after the heavy lifting (I mean REALLY HEAVY lifting) was done. I should explain this was a hazardous, large dead pine… probably killed by utility workers much earlier. At any rate, my house and car in the driveway are as much relieved as am I. And while they were there, they thinned out several other trees and chipped up the trimmed limbs.
So NEXT time I need to remove a tree threatening MY neighbor’s house… I’m using these guys. Maybe it’d be a good idea BEFORE any of mine (or YOURS) get leaning quite so much.

We recently had a large walnut tree pruned by them and they made short work of what appeared to me as a massive job. They were prompt in coming to our house for the initial bid as well as scheduling to do the actual work. They meticulously cleaned up after the pruning and the tree and area below has never looked better! Also they are just a cool group of friendly guys who enjoy what they do.

We used Wind Thin to prune back an overgrown walnut tree on our property.
The canopy had been covering the roof of our garage and part of our house. The tree had become so heavy with nuts that the weight had actually broken a limb. Our entire backyard was littered with debris and overrun by squirrels.
Wind Thin came and did a tree pruning service, and now our walnut tree is light and airy! We can actually sit in our backyard without getting pelted by golfball-​sized walnut fruit.
The crew of 7 did an excellent job. They were fast, professional, and the tree looks beautiful!
Plus, their estimate was slightly lower than the other 2 I received. Overall, I was extremely happy with Wind Thin and would highly recommend having their arborist, Matt, come take a look at your place.
PS — they take all major credit cards — a nice touch.

After multiple bids, my landlord went with Wind Thin to take a tree down last week and I am really happy with their work. Their bid was the lowest, and we saved some money by not bringing a wood chipper in for the limbs. I just had them quarter the chucks of wood and I’ll keep them dry to use for fire in the winter time. The tree was an invasive species, surrounded by built-​into-​the-​ground wooden housing, about 6 stories tall and several limbs had fallen in storms-​on the roof, on my fence, and hitting another tree splitting it in 3. There was a lot of work to do and many things could get damaged. I arrived home from work on Tuesday with about 7 guys in my yard, the tree gone, fast and accurate with no damage to any property. They came by the next day to grind the stump all the way down, and left a pile of mulch to spread along the yard. They quartered the wood chucks for me and left them off to the side like I asked. I would definitely use them again for any tree service I need in the Portland area.

I never write reviews but I had to about these guys. They are incredibly knowledgeable but more than that, they are honest. We have used them for the past four years — having them do a range of jobs — everything from thinning out 120′ high doug firs to trimming minor branches. They are really consultative in the way they work with you, working hard to understand what you ultimately want to achieve. I like that they won’t just blindly do what I ask, but educate me (graciously — without me even knowing I am being educated) about the longer term impacts of the decision. In short, they want my trees to be as good just as much as I do. They are a company that works for the long-​term and I have found they will always work to keep you as a long term customer vs suggesting things you don’t need or overpricing things. They also are super strategic and smart about how they cut, having reverence for keeping the tree healthy as possible, etc. I’ve also experienced the voicemail thing the other poster mentions — but have always had them call back within 24 hours — and usually within 15 minutes. Tree trimming/​thinning is not cheap no matter who you use — and WindThin is no more expensive than others — but it’s one of the few things where I feel the cost is worth it. We will continue to use them…

I’ve worked with Wind Thin for 5+ years. They consistently give me fantastic service at a very reasonable price. I bought a property in NE Pdx with a lot of ancient, dying trees, so they’ve been extremely helpful for me.
Last year they took down an 80 year-​old apple tree that was at least 2′ in diameter. It had fallen on my neighbor’s garage in a storm, and they removed it without any causing any damage whatsoever. When they were done, I had a neat, empty spot where this monster had been. They hardly touched the surrounding shrubbery, to boot.
You can also tell they love their jobs. You don’t see that every day.
TL;DR: Great service, great price, hyper-​experienced.

At the recommendation of a neighbor, who raved about them, we accepted their bid without any competitive bids. We had them take down a 25 foot Cypress that had branches intertwined in overhead telephone, cable, and power lines. Additionally, they took out a smaller tree and stump grinded 3 trunks. We watched them for the entirety and were very impressed with the strategic nature of their cutting. At no time did I have any concerns with the wires. Their stump grinding was well done as well. They were courteous, cleaned up after themselves, were fast, and overall did an outstanding job. Based on what we heard, they are middle of the road when it comes to pricing.
