Vivid Chromatics

Like most people, I’m extremely picky about my hair color. I’m a hair stylist myself, so I’ve just been doing my own hair. However, last time, I messed up. I needed to find someone who really knows fashion/​vivid hair colors, as I like my hair to have an ombré effect of silver to purple. I’m very particular about how it’s done. I researched Aryka and decided that she would be a good potential colorist. After sitting in her chair, I think I’ve underestimated her abilities! She is so incredibly knowledgeable about vivid hair colors (hence the name of her salon: Vivid Chromatics). I felt like I was in the best hands in Portland! I cannot recommend Aryka enough. She flat ironed my hair perfectly after a good blow dry. No cut this time, but I’m sure we’ll do so next time. And her prices are super reasonable. If you love red, blue, green, teal, silver, or, of course, purple hair color, run, don’t walk, to Aryka!

I’ve been getting not only my hair cut and colored by Arykah for nearly a year now, but my boyfriend and my son both go to her as well. My son and I in particular are very picky and pretty high maintenance about how we want our hair done and Arykah always delivers exactly what we want. She is especially knowledgable about color and how to achieve really creative, interesting looks. She’s very meticulous with her cuts and I never ever feel rushed or like she’s trying to just get to the next customer like I’ve felt at some of the other shops in town. I’d highly recommend her as your stylist if you’re in the market for a new one!

I had Aryka cut my hair a month ago. I initially was happy with the cut for the first day but then the next day and the next week the cut was honestly not what I was looking for. My hair grows extremely fast and the grow out of the haircut was looking extremely sloppy. I’m a very simple person who doesn’t style my hair. The cut that I was given was too time consuming for me to style. I did tell her that I don’t style my hair at all and after the haircut she blew dry my hair to style. I don’t do that. I flat iron my hair. Why wouldn’t she style it the way that I style my hair?
In short I really hated the cut but I tried to make the best of it but the what I was trying to make of it wasn’t working. I was lying to myself just because I wanted to be nice and I paid for the cut.
However I am writing this review not because of the cut but because of how I was treated after the cut.
I sent an email to Aryka explaining to her what I didn’t like about the cut and I asked for a refund — during the haircut she did state that if I didn’t like the cut I could have a full refund. She responded to my email stating that she couldn’t give me a refund because I asked for a refund after two weeks and if I wanted to the refund I would have to have her fix the haircut. She failed to inform me in detail of her refund policy. Why would I let the person that gave me a haircut that I hated fix my hair? Also why was she not clear on her refund policies with me during the haircut?
So I was never given my refund due to her refund policy that she never informed me about.
Honestly this review is not being written because of the bad haircut but because of the unclear and dishonest communication on her refund policy. Also her refund policy is far more convenient and beneficial for her as a stylist but not much so convenient or beneficial for her clients. In my opinion this is poor customer service. Its lying to a client.
In short — I feel lied to.

Aryka is the only person I would trust with my hair — her passion shows in the details. This new location is perfect for someone of her talent, this is not the kind of place that rushes you or takes multiple clients at the same time leaving you to awkwardly wait as you process — Aryka gave me a personalized experience. I didn’t know what would look best on me so in the past I’d just end up with whatever the stylist recommended which was often disappointingly bland. When I went to Aryka she learned more about my personal style and helped me find what really matched what I was going for. It is clear she is in her element, she’s got an answer to every question and well thought out reasoning behind everything — this is an independently owned and operated shop there are no employees. The salon is also unique in having only one seat, no talking to a receptionist, no waiting in line, no busy loud other customers to eavesdrop on your conversation — privacy and peace. I look forward to every service.

Aryka is an amazing stylist, who knows her stuff! Inquire about any of her products and/​or special needs for your hair type and she’ll tell you exactly what you need. I went in for a haircut and hair thinning (I have extremely thick hair that is difficult to style/​cut) and came out with impeccably soft and perfectly curled hair all done and ready for the evening :) Oh, prices are so affordable especially for the type of service you receive and, not to mention, Aryka is adorable and incredibly personable!
