Tran’s Auto Service

I was stuck and on the recommendation of a friend contacted Tran (who works on the weekend). Unfortunately, I found him very rude and brusque. He pretended he did not hear me several times. He was also sexist when he said «you won’t understand,» when I asked him questions about my car. Would he have responded the same way if a male had asked him about their car? He also overcharged me by at least $ 130.00. I checked later what it would have cost to have the exact same thing done at 3 other mechanics. When I later told him that I had compared prices and that all 3 mechanics came in at about $ 130.00 less than what he was charging, he told me I was lying. Unbelivable! Tran told me mechanics would often quote one price, then charge a lot more when they actually did the work. Wow. Maybe so if you go to a shady establishment, Tran! Tran also said my engine looked like it had twice as many miles on it than it actually did, because «you have not taken care of your car» by having oil changes done at Jiffy Lube. When I later asked other mechanics about this, they smiled and shook their heads. The part that Tran put in my car broke within days and I had to set up an emergency appointment to have him put another «new» part in. He did not apologize for the inconvenience of me having to go back and wait two hours for them to put another, hopefully not defective, part in my car. I was offended by the attitude, lack of professionalism and treatment by Tran and will NEVER return. Obviously, had I not been stuck on a Saturday I would have gone to my regular mechanic who never quotes one price then charges much more later, and who also answers questions and acts curtious and professional. A no-​brainer if you want to have customers come back, right?

Very rude owner. Quoted us almost $ 200 over what Jiffy Lube quotes us to replace the starter. Yelled at my boyfriend multiple times. Straight hustler mechanic. Will never recommend to anyone.

We have been taking our cars to Tran for years. He is honest, fair and reliable. On Friday night, my alternator went out on my way home from work and Tran stayed after hours to wait for the tow truck, then he stayed even later waiting with me for my ride. To top it off, my car was repaired by the next day! Lovin Tran’s Auto Service!

I went to Tran, saw that he had some good reviews, and his quote to fix my AC was a little lower than the place I usually take my car to. Well, he did some repairs and supposedly it was fixed. I paid him $ 250, and thought it was a done deal. About 1 month later the AC stopped working. I took it back in, I don’t drive the car very much so it didn’t really even last that long. I told him it stopped working, he took a look at it, said he’d call me the next day. 2 days went by no call, so I called him, he said $ 360 to fix it. I told him that I already paid $ 250 and that seemed high. He said, oh you’re trying to screw me out of money, we went back and forth, he told me everything that he did completely different story from what he originally told me. I was very confused. Finally, he told me to come get my car and he didn’t want to work with me ever again. I took it to my usual shop and they fixed it and said there’s no way he could have done the work he claimed, since there were a couple holes in a couple of the different hoses. He really upset me, since I kept my calm and didn’t really get angry with him, until he told me to basically fuck off. I will never go back.

I recently drove to Portland after finding a used car for sale on Craigslist. I called up Tran’s, explained my situation, that I was nervous about purchasing the vehicle, and told him I had planned to wait until Monday morning to have someone go over a pre-​purchase inspection. He instead suggested I come to the shop on a Sunday (his day off) and he would take a look for me. He was personable, clearly explained everything he found, and most importantly, was very thorough. He ended up finding a possible serious problem with the transmission, potentially saving me a load of headaches and money down the road.

I cannot recommend Trans enough, if I could give him 10 stars I would! I know my car pretty well and have owned a few Junkers over the years so I knew that the issues I was having was related to one of the multiple sensors in my car. Tran listened to my diagnoses and was very respectful & honest with me. Never did he treat me like a dumb girl! He worked with me to identify which sensor it was, took my car to the Chrysler dealer himself to see if we would get a different diagnostic test result, then figured out which sensor was bunk, changed two belts and another minor repair for under $ 120 bucks!

Tran is one of the last honest mechanics out there! My experience with him has consistently been positive. He often has quick and easy fixes for niggly problems, never tries to unnecessarily upsell and the cars always run like a dream after they come back from him — why can’t all auto mechanics be like this?!

Tran is a fantastic guy and definitely knows what he’s doing. I will ALWAYS head here first!

AWESOME. AMAZING. TRANS KNOWS HIS STUFF. He saved me $ 1,000 on a transmission job. He has inspected used cars when my kids were looking and hasn’t charged a dime. Stayed late and replaced my starter at 3:30 pm the day before Christmas. Let me picked it up later that night when he was gone and went back after Christmas to pay the bill.

You want a honest mechanic, this is the place to go. They don’t overcharge a dime and will let you know exactly what you need. I am an easy target to rip off since I know nothing about cars… but I trust this place! Super quick and considerate. I cannot be more happy.

Tran is a car nut but a noble and humble man — makes for a good auto mechanic. He saved me at least $ 2000 on a transmission job that I didn’t need.

So i had to go do an oil change and i wanted to it somewhere i could walk around and check out the new sites. I choose this place out on belmont so i could walk around.
I got a really good deal on my oil change. Especially because i’m so picky about what i put in my cars. While there i was talking to his other customers and they were very happy with his service and confident that if there is a problem he’s the guy to fix it.
good prices, competent mechanic and within walking distance of places to hang out and eat. this is a place for me.
