Truly the BEST! We cannot say enough about Dr. Woods. He is clearly brilliant, certainly far and away the number one requirement in choosing a neurologist/neurophysiologist. He is truly an expert in neurophysiology — neurological movement and nerve based disorders. We love that he is in private practice, not within the«Big Clinics» at the hospitals as it has allowed him to do what has been necessary for care — not what is possible within the preset time frames or appointment codes. My husband was referred to Dr. Woods for fatigue in his legs. Our first appointment lasted nearly two hours and as Dr. Woods went through the exam, he would pause, take notes and expand the exam based on what he found. He was quiet, focused, studious, straight forward and very serious — although after the first hour and a few wisecracks from my husband, he warmed up immensely! We were back two days later for further EMG&NCV testing. My husband feared the tests could be painful but he was pleasanly surprised. The needles were the finest gauge and Dr Woods clearly knew what he was doing.(My hubby had been to another neurologist prior to Dr. Woods who was clearly incompetent and had performed a painful EMG in only a couple spots.) The tests were another two hours of intense study and recording but not painful at all, even with countless needle placements. Once Dr Woods was ready to share the diagnosis, he asked to be excused for a while and came back about 10 minutes later with piles of paperwork for us. Dr. Woods had never seen a case of what he suspected was plaguing my husband, only recalled it from school and reading of medical journals, and it was imperative to him that he have as much current information on the disease as possible to share with us. Because the diagnosis does not have a cure or treatment to stop the progression, he put his own ego aside and put the patient first. He got us in to see the head of Neurology at the top hospital for a second opinion on the proposed diagnosis. After this second opinion, my husband needed a lumbar puncture(LP or spinal tap). He was NOT at all open to the idea but Dr. Woods was able to impress upon him the importance of the procedure. On his own accord, Dr. Woods scheduled the LP on a day he did not have patients so that he could come to the appointment with us as it was done in the hospital. He stood by my husband’s side as the procedure was done — all in support of his patient. Since then, he has spent numerous evenings on the phone with us(at times nearly an hour), he purchased medical articles to get the latest information on genetic testing options and identifying the genetic variant that is at fault. His office staff has been so nice, knows us by name and has been overly generous in working with us on payment arrangements. We have now been patients of Dr. Woods for almost two years. He has become a part of our team as we navigate the journey of this progressive neurological disorder. Some day my husband may completely lose the ability to walk but we know that we have a neurologist on our team that will be there for us every step(no pun intended) of the way.
