I hate myself for taking to Unilocal but seriously, how hard is it to keep your doors open? I hope this time it’s for real and something that can stay consistent will move in.

Any café that has couches is a win in my opinion. Three Friends is a comfortable little place with good lighting, good layout and a great environment to sit in peace and get work done. Their tea latte with honey lavender is the best tea i’ve had since coming here from India. It’s creamy, spicy and has a subtle hint of lavender. Loved it!

Meh. This place was a coffee shop. A generic coffee shop in Portland, what a surprise. There was only one guy working, and I’m patient, so it was ok but if you’re in a hurry this is not the place to go. Comfortable chairs. $ 3.50 for my for here pot of coconut tea. Wanted a healthy, light snack before dinner so I got an apple and PB. It was really cold inside with high ceilings. Not very cozy. The tea was good. but nothing else was really note worthy, so I probably wouldn’t go back.

We come to this coffee shop on a regular basis in the evenings since there aren’t many coffee shops open until 10 pm. At first we were quite happy with Three Friends and absolutely love the owner. She gives great customer service and is just a very sweet person all around. So nights she’s working always go well. Then there are the nights when another girl works. It’s like night and day as far as service is concerned. She sometimes has her boyfriend hanging out with her, which I normally wouldn’t mind, except when they are canoodling at the end of the bar for five minutes before she finally comes over and takes our order. She’s friendly when she finally gets around to helping us, but we dread nights she’s working because we know we’re going to get lousy service while she either talks to her boyfriend or messes with the music or just seems to disappear as we arrive. It’s unfortunate that the owner has such a great space and cares so much about her business because just one employee can bring the whole experience down. We’re looking for other late night coffee shops now because we’ve grown tired of the poor service. Three stars for the great teas and coffee, the great cozy space and the awesome owner.

This place is the best! If you are looking for a cute comfy hangout? This is it. A great place to bring friends, have a bagel and drink a chai. Or read a book and enjoy some alone time. I love this place, and definitely recommend it especially during the winter season. Enjoy ! Happy holidays !

The lady that works here is friendly and is helpful when selecting your tea. The atmosphere feels safe and comfortable. It is very cold in here– you must keep your coat on!

I have been coming to this coffee shop on and off for a while now, it’s cozy and convenient and has had consistently good quality, service, and prices and I like the people who hang out there. The atmosphere is a little run down, but I like that in a coffee shop. I had overheard some folks talking there about a change in ownership that has happened in recent months, but I didn’t think much of it. This morning when I went in for the first time in a couple of weeks, they had switched from serving Stumptown coffee to Caffe Umbria. It was really hard to not take that betrayal in quality personally. You don’t get to make a switch like that and NOT lower your prices substantially, $ 9 for a bagel and CAFFEUMBRIA is not acceptable. One of these stars is for what you used to be, Three Friends. The other is the disappointment star.

This place is laid back and honest. Definitely not trying to be something other than a comfortable coffee house. Cool old record player with decent collection, lots of light and ample seating. Coffee is not bad and it just seems like one of those spots you simple want to support and see do well. Definitely recommend it for a chill hangout mid afternoon.

The environment here is comfortable and laid back. When discovering other cafés, I often find myself comparing them with this place and wishing they had even a shred of what Three Friends has to offer in interior space. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve waited 20 minutes for the single staffed barista to microwave my egg and cheese sandwich to serve me. Given the great taste of my usual ‘Sidecar’ sandwich, I don’t think it’s premade and heated, thank goodness, but it is indeed cooked in a microwave. No complaints about that, but it just exemplifies the fact that the wait here is ridiculous. Shouldn’t be this long! One time my order was forgotten, other times they make it when the line dies, which can take forever. I guess multitasking isn’t a thing here. The half and half is often empty. I’m usually grabbing one of the last clean spoons left. I question the freshness of the simple syrup; I hope it’s not being left out overnight. Bus table sometimes looks neglected. A down to Earth joint that may seem a bit smug given they way they do things.

Cute and cozy coffee shop that was across the street from the apartment I was renting on my Portland long weekend away. I dropped in twice, once right after they opened and once a little later on in the morning. The first morning I was the first person there and ordered a tea and a bagel. The man-bunned dude behind the counter was super chill and mellow. I could see that the bagels were fresh as they were in a brown paper bag with«3 Friends» written on it that had clearly been delivered or picked up that morning. It still took him 5 or more minutes to get my order ready, but it was first thing after they opened so not that big of a deal. I just settled into one of the comfy chairs and read one of the free weeklies. If I lived in the neighbourhood I could see myself coming by here to meet with friends, relax with a book or do some work on my laptop. Mellow music playing in the background both times I was there.

I really liked this coffeehouse. Located within a decent ½ mile walk from my Portland motel, I strayed away from the convenient Grendal’s & checked out this place. This place reeks of hipsters & antique furniture. Not that it’s a bad thing necessarily. Their espresso machine was broken that day but the iced coffee was good. The ambient & downtempo electro rock added to the overall vibe of this place & is a great place to chill on a lazy morning. Reminded me of the hipster coffee shops in Austin & San Marcos.

What a huge mistake this was. But, that happens when I am new in town and still searching for a nice coffee house. So, I had tea here today and worked on some job stuff on my laptop. First, there was no outlet in one corner where there is a couch and my laptop battery was nearly dead. Second, myself and pretty much every other customer I watched ended up waiting a very long time to place their order. The barista was preparing food and drinks, but it was soooo slow to place and to receive my order. They do have a good tea selection, which the woman at the counter allowed me to smell before trying. But, the pineapple oolong tea I ordered did not taste like pineapple at all. It just tasted like regular black tea. Two out of the three couches I sat on were *incredibly* uncomfortable. One of the vintage 1970’s mustard yellow couches smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned since the 1970’s. The décor, furniture, paint and flooring all are in desperate need of some TLC. It’s that«falling apart victorian haunted house» look that I’m not too fond of. The espresso machine is currently broken and this is a coffee house. Uh, what else can I say? Good grief, did anything go right today? The gal who helped me at the register and made my tea was nice. The prices were alright. The door was open, and the breeze that flowed in was pleasant. The outdoor seating is a nice perk. Street parking was incredibly easy and close. They do offer a punch card. Whoever the three friends are, you guys need to get together and fix this place up pronto. There are so many better coffee places in Portland.

So welcoming and homey and great place to get work done. Two lovely ladies serviced me and they were very pleasant. I had a cappuccino and the turkey gobbler– delicious! I highly recommend this place!

Have you ever discovered a place that’s so good, you almost don’t want to tell anyone else about it for fear that it could be ruined? 3 Friends is that kind of coffee shop. This shop serves quality, local coffee, in addition to offering a huge variety of comfortable seating and an awesome music selection. The staff are very friendly, and they don’t mind when customers stay awhile. 3 Friends is home to writers, philosophers, neighbors craving a caffeine fix and Indy musicians alike. It’s the perfect place to crank out some work or just relax. My favorite part of 3 Friends is their iced coffee. You will not find a larger glass of iced coffee anywhere in this city, and you won’t beat this price either. If you’re in the neighborhood, give it a shot, and be sure to thank them for making such an epic secret treasure!

Stopped by here one night to write, and this place is small and quiet. They were playing Atmosphere on the speakers, so double points! I was really surprised anyone up here knew about Atmosphere! But, the cashier lady was super nice and awesome. I’m trying to remember what type of tea I drank, but I ‘do not recall.’ I just remember it was good with as many hot water refills I could have wanted to keep my bladder full. Fast and speedy wifi led to fast and speedy writing and editing. It was a nice night. Definitely come by for the tea and the ambience. Dope spot to study.

There’s a cozy, comfortable place for everyone here… Whether you want to people watch out the window, meet other coffeeshop goers sitting on the couch beside you, or study alone. It’s pretty dim in here when the sun sets, and there must be a bar or construction happening nearby because there was quite a bit of pounding. But those are really the only minor negative things I could say about this place. The service was friendly and fantastic. Coffee is stumptown and the tea selection is plentiful. The music was the perfect mix for the mood outdoors and inside. I love that they’re open until 10pm. I wish I lived next door because I would stop in all the time.

I come here at least three times a week so you know that I adore it. Three Friends really does feel like you’re sitting in a friends living room. The couches are comfy and it’s always packed with people just hanging out, talking, relaxing, or doing work on their laptops. The service can be slow, and that’s true. You have to be patient when coming here. It’s not uncommon for me to wait ten minutes for my drink. The place is not fully staffed. Most of the time it’s just the owner, or another person, working alone. They have to make all the drinks, the food, and handle the register. So be patient! It’s worth it! They have a million teas. Really. I don’t think anyone could ever try them all. They are all delicious and make a really good Tea Latte. The staff is pretty knowledgeable about the teas, too, so ask them for a recommendation if you feel overwhelmed. They make great espresso drinks, and even offer season options. Right now they have hot cider, spiced mochas, pumpkin lattes and the like. Everything is delicious. Their Pumpkin Latte is even made with real pumpkin and spices, and is a million times better than any pumpkin latte anywhere. We always get the Ninja Brownie(if they have them — they sell out often) which is AMAZING. One of my favorite brownies ever. Biscotti, cookies, loafs and baked goods are all yummy, too. But that Ninja Brownie, though!

This place was PACKED on a Saturday morning. I didn’t want coffee, so I ordered a Chai Tea — and they can prepare it 4 ways! I picked«spicy» and it had just the right amount of black-pepper spice along with the tea. My husband had a cheese and jalapeño roll — and the fella put a TON of cream cheese on it(YUM). They used SQUARE register! How cool is that?!

This place is pretty great. Good selection of coffee and tea drinks, snacks and meals, and different types of seating. Street parking has been easy, bathrooms clean, baristas pretty cool, and other customers friendly. Looking forward to spending more time at Three Friends. I’ve enjoyed doing some early-Saturday night homework here a few times in the last month(does it count as «pre-gaming» if instead of drinking booze before I go out, I drink tea and read for class?). Open ’till 10, and easy access to downtown.
