Delicious affordable wines. Travis and his team are wine experts. They are friendly, knowledge and helpful. Bottle shop a great place to get a beer or sip a glass of wine with a friend. Excellent addition to Sellwood.

Best wine in town. Best in-​house by the glass as well. Travis is an institution unto himself.

Love the wine and beer options at Portland Bottle Shop. My wife and I will come here whenever we want an easy, fun night in the neighborhood. Snack options are great as well.
One complaint, the meat and cheese plate is quite overpriced for the portion size. For $ 14 I’d expect half the pig and a hunk of cheese, but the flecks and smidges were underwelming.
All in all, great place for a drink though!

The wine selection is well organized and large. The tapas style food is well prepared and excellent quality. A little weak on the beer selection for size, but variety is excellent. A great addition to Sellwood.

Joined a classmate for drinks at the PBS last night and had a great time. Friendly staff, good beer on tap, and they didn’t make any stink when we were still lingering around after they had closed but were still cleaning up.

I love this shop! Travis, the owner, is so nice and knowledgeable. You can tell he loves wine and beer and loves helping you pick out what you would like. There is a wide range of pricing on the wines so you can get some great wines for less money. The food is yummy, small plates with a good variety. I’ve been to Friday night tastings and they are always fun. I was recently fortunate enough to go to a private event and the wine and food were wonderful. I disagree with the reviewer that said this place is «very upscale.» I’ve seen patrons in their bike gear, in jeans and also more dressed up. Not that its not nice. It’s a lovely place. I’m just trying to state that I feel its accessible to everyone.

The bottleshop is a couple of blocks from home and I go there two or three times a month to have a beer or a glass of wine while waiting for my to-​go order from Mekong next door.
Though small in size, they have an expansive selection of wine and beer in bottles. So large that it literally reaches the ceiling. You can score some good finds here and if you’re feeling adventurous, the massive selection allows you to try a multitude of tasty libations.
The on-​tap selection is less impressive but still good. They typically have 4 beers (tend to be hoppier beers, but recently a Backwoods stout – woohoo!), 4 reds, and 4 whites. If I’m drinking wine, I always ask for their recommendation and then take it. I haven’t been let down yet.
The food is an assortment of small, simple, tasty plates – little snacks to go with your drink. I particularly enjoy the pretzel with a good beer.
There are frequently tastings and other events happening here which is a fun little bonus when you stop by. Last night I went for a glass of wine and there happened to be a mead tasting. It’s a great way to try things I’d otherwise never order.
There are a couple of indoor tables and a nice outdoor seating area. The ambiance is laid back and not fancy whatsoever. I’ve shown up in my weekend best (yoga pants and a sweatshirt) and not felt out of place or unwelcome.
It’s important to note the sense of community here. It’s not unusual to see all varieties of people mingling and mixing and becoming friends over drinks. Sellwood folks unite here and it’s cool to be a part of.

This is truly an exceptional wine (and beer) shop. I lived in Portland for many years, go back often, and rented a house a few blocks away a couple years ago. That’s when I discovered this shop. Travis, the owner, has carefully chosen wines for the shop. I’ve asked him for a couple of special orders (no big surprise, I’m fond of Oregon pinot noirs), and he always gets them in for me promptly. Once, when there was a mix up, he suggested ways that he could make amends — this kind of customer service is getting pretty rare these days. I think it’s worth driving here from anywhere in the Portland metro area — the Sellwood area is charming with its old houses, and there are some really good restaurants and cafés down the street. Again, the shop has great wines and is incredibly customer service oriented.

Staff here were very friendly, but I was underwhelmed by their paltry tap beer selection. They had nothing that wasn’t bitter and hoppy.
This place is very, very upscale. I was wearing a tucked shirt with a collar and I felt like a bum next to the swanky, sophisticated professionals here. If you want to take your doctor/​lawyer girlfriend on a first date, bring her here.
Staff here were VERY friendly and easygoing. I ended up buying bottled beer which was okay, but it kind of defeated the point of going to an ale house in the first place when I can get beer in a bottle at Safeway.
My friend bought a bottle of wine. It was a warm, cozy, hard-​wood kind of ambiance. I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’ll go back.

Love it! Great local spot for brews and wine. The staff are great, they have a nice selection, and I always feel welcome when I walk in. The summer is great because they have some great sidewalk seating where dogs are welcome. Definitely becoming a regular!

This is one of my favorite stops in Sellwood. Where to start?
When you walk in you are greeted by the cheery, bright, very knowledgeable staff.
Once you have been greeted you notice the tremendous amount of wines they carry. It is sort of overwhelming at first, but that is where the knowledge of the staff comes into play. If you are a connoisseur or just getting into wine, or maybe just buying a gift for a friend, any one of the employees can explain everything you need to know, and in a way that actually makes sense.
I often stop in for a beer before the weekend, (they have rotating taps, and rotating cooler case selections) which is nice! I love trying something new and the Bottle Shop keeps it fresh. You can always find something to match your palate. If you are struggling, one of the staff will help you make a decision that you will likely enjoy.
The food is great. They do tastings and pairings semi frequently. Oh, and they also have one of the best outdoor seating areas in Sellwood (Portland) thanks to the street seats project. Indoors there is plenty of seating thanks to the spare couple stacks of stools in the corner!

Not only do they have an extensive collection, yummy snacks, outdoor seating, & friendly help, they also play bluegrass music. That had me sold the minute I stepped foot into the place

Great selection of wine and beers. Cool patio on the street for those hot days. Friendly people who work there. Don’t forget to order yourself a cheese plate to go with your wine!

I’m so thrilled that the Portland Bottle Shop is thriving and doing well in Sellwood. We’ve needed a great little place that had both a wide selection of wines and beers. It also provides a great ambiance to stop after dinner and enjoy one of their well selected beers on tap or a delicious glass of wine.

They recently had my favorite winter beer, Fa La La La (Double Mountain) on tap! Definitely worth a pop-​in.

This is not just another bottle shop. This place is awesome. The staff and owner are fantastic, knowledgeable and welcoming. They usually have great beers on tap as well as several wines by the glass. The new patio out front looks great and provides some much needed outdoor seating in the neighborhood. The beer and wine selections to take home (or to have there) are stocked with some excellent options.
For all of you parents out there, minors are welcome. So, do yourselves a favor and stop in for a drink or to pick up a bottle for dinner. You will not be disappointed.

Not being much of a drinker anymore, I’m generally not up to date on all the what-​nots with the industry, lingo, and certainly not familiar with crap happening in the microbrew and related industries.
So when Mrs. Burgerdogboy and I were walking the streets of Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood last week, and I saw a sidewalk sign outside of the Portland Bottle Shop that said «yes, we have growlers!» I had to pop in and inquire just WTF that meant.
Seems the growlers are take home beer bottles (or containers) of sort. They are sold at microbreweries so one can take home «fresh» beer.
The Bottle Shop’s version of the origin of the word varies slightly from Wikipedias. The store version had the origin of the word dating back to the day when people would come into a pub for their beer, be impatient, and «growl» for it. Wikipedia takes exception to this store, and states that the name came from the sound the beer made, sloshing around in a (at that time) galvanized bucket… the CO2 gas being released from the lid seemed to «growl.»
No matter. We sampled some wine, and parked our butts at a table by the window, and picked at some of the Bottle Shop’s local noshes — a pretzel platter, with mustard and cheese sauce, and a bit of pâté («I can drink it all day») — all were quite tasty. I would have liked to have tried their charcuterie (and will someday).
These folks seem really great, knowledgeable about their wines, and prices are reasonable. I suggest when you are wine hunting to make the Portland Bottle Shop one of your first stops.

So Sellwood is officially a destination.
For one, it now has a bottle shop filled with I stopped here for a drink and some snacks from a day of shopping in the surrounding nabe. Luckily, we found some seats outside (this was a Friday night, mind you) and we had ourselves a patio delight. The man behind the bar was extremely helpful – carried out an extra seat outside for us and let us know what snacks were available and what was good. We settled on some red ale and the lil snack platter with everything to taste on it including an average salmon spread.
I did notice the hipsters rolling in, complete with seer sucker pants and flat sandals a plenty. That didn’t spoil my good time as any good hipster would know a good spot for a quick drink and flight of wines. Just next time: Please don’t try and use the nearby homemade bike rack as your personal stool. Tsk, tsk, tsk…

Very attentive customer service, extensive knowledge of good wine, and a lovely store with tasty appetizers to stay or go make for a sublime experience at The Portland Bottle Shop. As Unilocaler, Jessi S. pointed out, they have tasting events. And, they are attentive to the type of wine, knowledgeable about and very Portland, in that they buy wine from small growers and local vineyards. Awesome.
Each time I go in, I’m thrilled by the genuine interest of the staff in helping me to find a bottle of wine which reflects my menu and my budget. And, I get compliments every time about the wine I’ve chosen — well, helped to choose! ;)
