The Maintenance Guy

Robert is great to work with. He really listens to what you want and does a good job making it happen. We hired him a couple years ago to build a deck on the back of our house. We were so happy with how it turned out, that when we were thinking about doing some work on our garage and fence, we contacted him again. We are so happy.
Keep in mind that he isn’t a big contracting company where you are going to be talking to one person and have someone else doing the work. There also isn’t going to be a big crew coming in and finishing everything quickly. It’s basically him and his son Matt. I think he is well worth the wait.

The fence repair done by Robert created the need for an additional repair that is even more expensive than the initial job. This could have been prevented had he let the customer know that the fence posts were a different size. He did not offer to help fix the issue even after I told him I was not happy with the situation. Instead he gave an exorbitant estimate for the additional repair. I would not recommend The Maintenance Guy.

Had an appointment with Robert for 3:00 Monday afternoon. I am usually off work by then so his availability that day would work. Had a crazy busy day at work and would have stayed on longer to help but had appt. scheduled from a week and a half out already. Did not want to cancel and wait for another week to two for a new appt.
So I raced home to be on time for appt. Needless to say by 3:30 he had not arrived or called to say he would be late. I called him. Left a message. He called back promptly but acted as if his tardiness was no big deal. Said he would be there shortly. About 3:45 he shows up, spends well over a half hour measuring, writing notes and examining areas needing work. Said he would email my bid next Tuesday.
Welp, it has been over 3 weeks since our appt. and, guess what? No bid or contact since. Why do contractors continuously waste our time and theirs coming out for bids and never getting back?
Also if I had been the one who was 45 mins late I wonder what his response would have been…

I’ve been looking for a good reliable handyman who would be able to help me with the projects around the house that I just don’t have the time to tackle. I decided to give Robert a chance mainly due to the reviews here. He responded quickly to my request for information and was out looking at my project before I knew it. He thoroughly reviewed the project, even crawling down in my crawl space to check out the sub floor. I needed some rot repaired in my bathroom. His proposal arrived quickly and he was reasonably priced, not the cheapest, not the most expensive quote I got. I decided to give him the project. We agreed on a date and when the date arrived so did Robert. The job itself was done on time, on budget and the quality of Robert’s work was top notch.
I was impressed with his attention to detail. His proposal was very detailed, outlining everything he was going to do and repair. As the typical nervous, paranoid home owner, I sat there in my office checking off each item listed on the proposal to ensure I was getting what I paid for. Robert methodically went through every item he proposed and didn’t miss a thing. He was neat and respectful of my time. He even found an issue with my dryer vent and fixed it at no cost.
There is no doubt that I’ll use Robert again, he’s already quoted me on a couple of additional projects. My only fear is that all these good reviews will bring Robert more work than he can handle and he will become too busy. I would recommend Robert for all of your home projects. Just don’t monopolize his time so the rest of us can still use him…

We had a great experience with Robert. He was able to come work in our home on a holiday, which is amazing. He was polite and respectful. He removed his shoes before entering our home and cleaned up after his work. He was fast and did quality work. We had him repair a part of our roof were squirrels were roosting in our ceilings and a door that wouldn’t close. His fee was very reasonable. There was a project that was beyond his means but he was open and honest about it, recommending we use someone else rather than string us along or perform sub-​quality work. I will definitely use his service again in the future.

Robert came by and looked at what we needed fixing. He took pictures and measured the area. Did I presume too much? Because it really looked like he was interested in the job. He said, he’d email an estimate within the week… but nothing ever arrived. I wrote him twice about the estimate, but he didn’t write back. This spanned over two weeks and we lost time in getting the project done. If a company doesn’t want a job, please just SAY so! Don’t waste people’s time. What’s avoidance gonna get you… avoidance back.

Robert did an excellent job for us this last week, his fees were very reasonable and was on site as promised on time. We had a porch leak that was running into our duplex unit affecting both the upstairs and downstairs units. Robert was very knowledgable proposing a sure fire solution, arrived with the correct tools and did an excellent job sealing several impact points — No leaks :) His work was fast and efficient.
The duplex was built in 1908, Robert is our «Go-​to» person.

I needed to have a couple of ceiling fans installed and had a couple other projects on my list and I was desperately looking for someone to come to the house that I could trust. I called 4 or 5 people that I found on line. Robert was the first to respond with a price and a couple of dates that would work for him all on the first email! We agreed on the price and date and there he was on time and ready to go. My husband didn’t think he could install both fans the same day but 50 minutes later they were both installed and working and he was asking about my other projects. My ONLY hesitation about writing this is that he will become to busy to come back! I have several more items on that list.

I can’t say enough positive things about Robert and the work he did at my house. I had a number of things on my to-​do list and Robert addressed them all. From installing a chimney cap, to removing the moss off the roof to building a small fence and installing security lighting … I was really surprised at the variety of things that Robert could handle. He’s very knowledgeable, reliable and his prices are very fair. I have a new to-​do list started and when I’m ready I’ll be calling Robert again. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing some help with their home improvement projects.

I needed some basic maintenance on my house and saw the excellent reviews on Unilocal that Robert had. I called and asked him to come out to see what I needed. He was close by so he came out within 30 minutes. He looked at what I needed repaired and then asked me to text him my number and he would text me back an estimate.
Well he never called nor texted back any information even after I texted him multiple times.
I would not recommend him to anyone based on this unprofessional behavior.

I was really excited to have Robert come evaluate our roof for cleaning after reading the Unilocal reviews, and even put off getting our house painted for that, but I won’t be hiring him. First, I had to wait WEEKS to get an estimate appointment with him, no doubt because he’s so busy due to great Unilocal reviews. When the day finally arrived, he was here about an hour, I think, measuring the roof to do the estimate. I was surprised because I’d had another company out to do an estimate and they didn’t measure the roof, but that was fine. This was on a Tuesday… he told me he does estimates on Mondays, so I wouldn’t get mine for about a week. That Monday came and went and it wasn’t until the following Tuesday after that (so TWO weeks later) that I received an estimate for moss removal in which he quoted a price THREE TIMES more (over $ 1000 for a 2800 sq. ft. house) than another estimate for using the same hand-​brushing removal technique. I mean, yeah Robert has some great Unilocal reviews, but three times as much?! Hmmmm…
Also, a couple of days after he’d been walking on and measuring the roof, I found on the ground in our yard what I’d call a «flashing collar» that goes around a vent pipe on the roof. It wasn’t broken, so I can’t imagine how it could have fallen off on its own. Coincidence? I don’t know, but now I need to hire a roofing guy to come out and fix it.
I really wanted to like Robert, but given the wait time and high prices, I’ll be going with someone else.

This is the second time I have called Robert. But this time it was an early morning emergency, and he was nothing but accommodating and professional at 6:45am. Again, his knowledge and professionalism are absolutely appreciated. He will always be the first person I call for any maintenance needs!

Robert, The Maintenance Guy, did a terrific job repairing a door jamb for me. His bid was precise, he arrived on time, and he finished at exactly the time he estimated. His costs and fees were fair and reasonable. Plus, he did his work without stopping once to make a phone call. Every contractor I’ve ever worked with has stopped to take calls. Hence the fifth star.

We really like Robert. He’s done small things like install drawer handles, to larger electrical repairs and installation. I feel confident in the quality of work he does and his process is very clear, he comes out, does an assessment of what work you need, creates a bid for you and then you can schedule the work.
He’s also very prompt with returning both calls and emails. We’ve already recommended him to several friends and would absolutely plan to contact him for any project we might have.

Robert came out to my house to reroute a gutter after I got a new concrete patio poured. He was quick and the job looks great! No attempt to sell extra services, just a quick estimate and the following week, the job was complete! Looks great!

Robert helped out a client of mine yesterday. He was extremely honest, upfront and left my client very happy. I would recommend Robert to anyone with house projects!

I live in a townhouse and have limited storage space; I also had one of those ‘skyboxes’ that go on top of the car that was taking up a lot of room in my garage. Robert came over, took some measurements, listened to my requirements (shelving, cabinet, pulley system for skybox, etc…) and provided an estimate for each part of the work. I loved that; I could choose what was most important to me to do immediately and got a solid idea of the cost of all of it.
Incidentally, that sky-​box deal proved challenging and Robert experimented on how to best make that work for me. However, I ended up purchasing a pre-​made storage system made by Thule (which I highly recommend). He didn’t even charge me for all the time he spent trying to provide a solution, but instead simply charged me for his time to install the Thule system. Again, I think this was just so fair of him… others undoubtedly would’ve charged me for every minute they were on my property.

Robert has done a few projects for us so far including a small bathroom remodel and ceiling fan installs in multiple locations. He is reliable, professional, reasonable, and detailed oriented. I’ve got many more projects that I’ll be happily handing off to Robert in the coming months.

Rob just finished building a backyard deck for us. Rob knew what he was doing, and kept us informed about how things were going. His estimate was accurate, and the deck came out great!
I’m impressed by Rob’s high level of competence and his work ethic and commitment to getting the job done right. He does great work and (also very important) he’s someone you can trust.
We would not hesitate to have him do more work for us. In fact, today he’s installing a sump pump in our basement, and doing his usual excellent job. He knew I prefer low levels of noise, and on his own initiative picked out a very quiet pump that’s inaudible in our bedroom even though it’s directly underneath the bedroom.
At this point, I wouldn’t even consider having anyone else do work around my house.

Robert is a life saver. I had a half dozen small projects to get to. A couple I could have done myself if I had the time, a couple I could probably have figured out with more time and some reading, and a couple were pretty certainly beyond me.
He polished them all off in a a single LONG workday with friendly professionalism, and was more than willing to explain things to me as he went so I could learn more about my house and how do it myself next time something like it came up.
I was so pleased with his work I also had him ballpark estimate a couple possible future jobs. I will definitely be calling him again, and would point any friends in his direction without hesitation.
