My son and his BFF had the best grilled cheese with chips at this food cart. The kids ate well for under 10. Bucks.

The grilled cheese here is amazing! I stuck to the basics and ordered the Gabby — white bread, tillamook cheddar, swiss, mozzarella, and colby jack cheese. The outside was crunchy and the cheese blend was gooey! Out of all the food stands I tried on 10th and Alder, this was by far my favorite!

I don’t get the hoopla or the long line. Once it was served up, The Gabby was, quite simply, a grilled cheese up to par with what I’d make at home. For $ 5.75, you get Tillamook Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, and Colby Jack Cheese on white toast, a sliver of dill pickle, and some chips. Perfectly fine, but nothing noteworthy whatsoever.

Can you screw up a grilled cheese sandwich?!? Yes, yes you can. Definitely not the case here! I went classic and ordered a Gabby! It was grilled to perfection, the crust was oh so crunchy! The 4 cheese blend was heavenly. I also ordered a cup of tomato soup– full on party in my mouth. Best I’ve ever had! Service was outstanding. Should you come across this food pod in Portland, you gotta try it!

Solid four stars! My boyfriend and I were craving something warm and calorie-filled, so we picked this place. We ordered the first grader, which is one slice of white bread, one slice of wheat, Tillamook Cheddar and American Cheese, and we added a slice of ham as well. I have to admit that it was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches, if not the best, I have ever had. The bread was crispy and buttery, while the inside was super cheesy and hot. So perfect with the cold weather. While I did feel my arteries clog up just a little bit, definitely worth it.

This really was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had. It was so crispy and cheesy, but not too cheesy. I was going to get the typical grilled cheese, but thought since there were so many other options I should branch out. I’m so glad I did! I got the BLT grilled cheese, and man was it good. Of course it had bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese on sourdough bread. It was $ 6.75, and I only had a credit card so there was a $.50 charge. It also came with salt and pepper kettle chips and a pickle. They were both great to enjoy with my sandwich. This is one of my favorite food carts so far in Portland!

I really think I was having an off day with my last visit. Weird taste bud ambivalence or something. This time around I had the basic grilled cheese — american cheese on white bread. It was divine. It embodied everything you ever wanted in a grilled cheese at that moment. Perfectly grilled toast, perfectly melted cheese, not too crunchy so as to shred your mouth and I even like their chips. Next time I think I will try my standard of cheddar on sourdough and see if I can’t get my taste buds back on track.

This is my first time visiting Portland and my friend said there were a lot of food carts I needed to try and this was one of her faves. It’s grilled cheese, nothing too crazy. Can’t really mess it up. I ordered the gabby and it was delicious. Cheese was perfectly melted and stretchy. MmmMmMm! Service was really quick and friendly. I want to try different ones, but I stuck with just a basic grilled cheese. I will definitely return!

My hubby and I were checking out all the Portland food trucks when we decided to give The Grilled Cheese Grill a shot. There wasn’t much of a line when we lined up, but soon after it got pretty long. We ended up sharing the basic grilled cheese, which is 3 or 4 cheeses and a tomato soup. The grilled cheese wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t super amazing. It tasted like the grilled cheese my husband makes at home. Maybe he’s just really good at making grilled cheese sandwiches. LOL. I haven’t tried any of the more unique sandwiches though, so I might come back and try those if I happen to be in Portland again and around these food trucks and craving grilled cheese. Otherwise, I’d probably pass. Also, I was really looking forward to dipping my grilled cheese in some yummy tomato soup but it was really watered down. It tasted more like tomato juice(V8) versus tomato soup. I do love me some good hearty tomato soup, but for some reason I really dislike tomato juice. So, I ended up only having a few sips of the soup and we threw the rest away.

What would we do without Grilled Cheese in this world?!? Such a simple creation, but yet sooooo dang good. Simply put, this truck creates all sorts of grilled cheese sandwiches and combinations. If you love grilled cheese, then you will definitely want to visit them! Most of their sandwiches are reasonably priced at about $ 6-$ 8 and all sandwiches come with ruffle chips and a pickle on the side. I initially ordered The Gabby, which contains 4 cheeses — Tillamook Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, and Colby Jack Cheese. In addition, I got a free regular grilled cheese sandwich that no one picked up. In other words, I got to try 2 different sandwiches for the price of 1! As for the sandwiches? Heaven!!! Grilled Cheese Heaven!!! The bread was toasted to a crisp and the cheeses were melted on to perfection — oozing, but not overly cooked. I can’t imagine working nearby because I would be coming here a few days a week … easily!

How can anyone ever go wrong with grilled cheese? The answer is, you truly just cant. In a recent trip down to Portland we decided to walk around prior to the Portland Rose Festival. Before heading over my husband and I opted to check out the grouped food trucks. It is around SW10th and Alder where we found The Short Bus calling to us. Grilled cheese is a bi-weekly weekend staple in our household. And typically it is very basic consisting of sliced bread and cheese with a tomato soup on the side. Who knew there were so many options for creating the perfect grilled cheese?! Between the jalapenos, pickles, onions, apples, various cheeses, meats and breads, how can one not want one of each?! Being a jalapeño popper lover, I choose the Jalapeño Popper. This included jalapeños, Colby jack, cream cheese on sourdough bread. And while I wanted so bad for this to be worth a five star Unilocal review. I am sad to say this is a four for a few reasons. While the sandwich was great, it really lacked all around flavor. The«meat and potatoes» of the sandwich really ended up just being in the middle of the sandwich, leaving the sides really bare and just bread. Does that even make sense? I just want a fully covered sandwich. And their tomato soup add on was really water-y. I will however give them the benefit of the doubt and am wanting to try this place again. When we hit the line there were a lot of people hovering this place, and it seemed like they were just swamped with orders. However, with that traffic, I would think adding an extra hand wouldn’t hurt too much. Nor would making a complete sandwich either.

The Cheesus changed my life!!! Novelty food and a must stop on your Portland tour. A hamburger sandwiched between 2 grilled cheeses sounds ridiculous but it’s actually so yummy. A better patty melt. And not as overwhelmingly filling as you’d think; it is just right(and I’m a small female). For the faint of heart there are other delicious looking sandwiches to try. Also, the line moves quickly.

I’m a sucker for a good grilled cheese and I really wanted to check out the Portland food truck scene, so when I saw this place on a 2014 list of the top ten food trucks, it was a no brainer! I ordered the Huevos based on other reviews and in hindsight I wish I had ordered the Jalapeño Popper. The Huevos was underwhelming — an average egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. The egg was cooked through so there was no runny yolk to add some yummy gooeyness. Don’t bother ordering the side of tomato soup. Tastes like it comes from a school cafeteria(or a can). The potato chips are actually surprisingly good. Insider tip: walk your food a few blocks north to Bailey’s Tap room. They allow outside food so you can sit down, enjoy AC and good beer to go with your grilled cheese.

Love coming to this place at the Alder Food Carts when we’re in the PNW. No visit is ever complete without getting a Gabby with tomatoes. It’s so simple, yet so divine. The secret is in the wonderful combination of the four cheeses: Tillamook Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, and Colby Jack Cheese.(Sidenote: Do the Tillamook Cheese Factory Tour while you’re in Oregon. So fun!) The Gabby is made on Portland French Bakery White Bread, but I think the magic is in the cheese. You can also add bacon for an extra $ 1.75, but I decided to stick a tomato in it. Everything is better with tomatoes. The downsides: Can be difficult to find a place to park yourself and eat and sometimes you catch a whiff of some funky ass locals. Best to eat on the go.

Yummy food cart. I love grilled cheeses and this exceeded my expectations. I ordered a «baby cheeses» and it had burger, cheese, lettuce, tomato and it was all so good. It came with chips and a pickle. Made hot and fresh, great customer service. Great food cart experience in Portland!

Delicious! That’s all I really need to say! I kept it simple with the Gabby! A 4-cheese thing of beauty. What really set this grilled cheese sandwich apart from others is that it wasn’t «greasy»! Each bite was delicious with gooey cheese and crunch from the toasted bread. Highly recommended if you don’t know which food truck/station to choose from!

Sometimes you just have a craving for a simple grilled cheese sandwich… and this place serves up your ultimate vision of a gooey-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside bite to eat. Satisfaction g-u-a-r-a-n-t-e-e-d. The Grilled Cheese Grill makes a sandwich as good as it gets! They offer the staple basics with a side of thin-cut crispy chips and a whopping big pickle on the side; just don’t be counting the calories. This is another great Portland food truck.

One of our preggies was craving a grilled cheese sandwich of all things and we found this stand in passing. I didn’t venture a review first, cause I figured the surprise might be worthwhile. We got a jalapeño popper grilled cheese which basically had all the components of the famous appetizer, in a sandwich. It was ooey, gooey, spicy though still missed a bit of punch, at least for me. Nonetheless, I took a nibble out of a friend’s Gabby and that was decently yummy.

I love the concept of all these food carts in Portland and when my friends and I came across this one, we had to order something because who doesn’t love cheese? We ordered the baby cheesus and the big huevo to share between the four of us because we wanted to save room for other food carts. The baby cheesus was like a patty melt, but better! It was grilled to absolute perfection I could just eat the bread all day. The big huevo was also amazing! It had cheese(obviously haha), avocado, jalepenos, and an egg. It was full of flavor and super yummy! I was really happy we stopped here and gave it a try :)

Bomb-dot-com! I ordered the Baby Cheesus and oh my… it sure filled me up! A burger + grilled cheese combination = GENIUS! With each bite came deliciousness perfectly cooked burger + grilled cheese. The Baby Cheesus came with some chips and a pickle. Well worth the money. I would definitely come back if I am ever in Portland again!
