The Commons Brewery

Really good ambiance and very reasonably priced beers. As someone from SF, I’m used to paying twice as much for the same thing.
They have a good variety of beers available, although it was a bit hard to pick one based on the names and descriptions alone

Damn, the sour beers here are really, really tasty. Especially the Khthonios. Cheese and meat board options make a great pairing for these tasty sour brews!

A spacious place with a relaxing and inviting ambiance.
They’ve got a large selection of European-​style brews and also serve food (e.g., cheese/​meat boards, mac and cheese, sandwiches, etc.). The beer is good. For food, we got the Manger’s Choice combo board that came with two types of meat and two different cheeses and some bourgeois-​ish mustard.

We have had a keg of the Farmhouse before (when they were in the OLD SPOT).
This was our first time being at the new place.
It was BUSY for 7 PM of a Friday night.
We had the Boysen ($ 5). It’s a strong dark boysenberry ale. Very delicious and 10%!
We sampled some of they other beers. The sour, the bourbon aged, the rye…
In my personal opinion, if you want bourbon — just have a whiskey — not a beer that is barrel aged to taste like it!
There is NEVER enough seating — mainly just standing room only.
The vibe is hip and noisy. It is a fun place to visit.
Just wish they would made more DARK (ONLY!!!) ales (like in the Belgian style).

This has been the best stop of my trip so far. First and foremost, the beer was amazing. This beer is artfully crafted and the variety kept things super interesting. I loved getting the chance to try some new flavors while also sampling some seasoned faves. Second, the hospitality was the best I received in Portland. Everyone here made me feel so at home and welcome. The space is cool and conducive to meeting new people, and the open floor plan makes the space feel roomy. The cheese pairing with the food was spot on and exactly what I look for in food to accompany my beer. I would say this is a must-​stop spot in Portland, especially if you are into craft beer, as theirs is excellent. Thank you guys for a wonderful experience!

Don’t know why it took me so long to finally get myself to this brewery. Very portlandish vibe to the place and its right next to their brewery I believe they might give tours or such during the day. Its a nice open place with plenty of area to stand around in case the tables are taken. I had a couple of Saissons which were excellent as well as the Boysen which was pretty nice as well.

The new tasting room is excellent! Expanded tap list with many well balanced and delicious beers. They could have fit more seating in workout it feeling less open and the two vendor payment system took a second to understand — minor complaints for such a great place!

I’m giving this place 5 stars for being exactly what it is. Came here for lunch on Thursday and was treated to a beautiful flight of four beers for $ 10 and one of the best mac & cheese lunches I’ve ever had. The space is a big open warehouse with lots of large, visible brew tanks, a small walk-​up bar, and about seven tables scattered throughout.
The tap master was gracious and helpful and steered me to some terrific beers. The Fluer de Ferme is unusual and amazing: a dark beer with lots of flowery notes and very drinkable. Also drank the Urban Farmhouse Ale, the Cerise Noir (dark with notes of cherry), and Garden Variety (light ale with habanero and cilantro). All were yummy.
The mac and cheese (provided by the Cheese Annex) was not your basic bowl of noodles and cheese sauce. This dish is made with cheddar, fontal, and parmigiano, and each serving is fried on the grill with breadcrumbs on both sides. OMG. The salad it comes with was dressed with a wonderful light vinaigrette and the whole dish is a great accompaniment to the beers. Must come back with the hubby sometime. Thanks so much for wonderful experience!

This brewery is in a big warehouse with a few tables and barrels for you to stand around. I spent a few hours here with my boyfriend just to relax and enjoy some beers in the afternoon. We each got a tasting tray (4 samples for $ 9-​$ 10/​dollars depending on what you choose) and a few other regular sized ones based on what we liked from the samplers. The farmhouse ale was my favorite!
We also got a cheese and charcuterie board (choose 2 of each) from the Cheese Annex in the brewery (window). The plate was a good size and yummy! Meats were delicious too.
I wish they had some more tables placed throughout as a lot of people just end up standing around but we came early enough in the day that we were able to grab a spot at the end of a shared bench table.

The Commons Brewery has quickly become one of Portland’s go-​to places for Saison and Farmhouse style beers. I visited them twice over the last week to visit their space and try some of the latest releases.
What was once a garage homebrewery called «Beetje», The Commons moved into a space on the SE side in 2011, and then into the current brewery on SE 7^th and Belmont. From what I gather, the building used to be an old carpet and tile industrial building turned expensive eastside storage by the time The Commons came around to it. Now it’s a shiny brewery boasting a 15-​barrel system capable of producing 5,000 barrels a year eventually.
The interior of the brewery holds on to the industrial roots, with original brick interior walls now a function of the kitchen and brewery itself. The tanks are out in the open and there is minimal visual interference from the tasting room to the production facility.
The décor is also fairly minimal with the old barrels serving as a cocktail bar-​type of gathering place. There are also 8 or so heavy wood tables with matching chairs for seating. These chairs are no joke. I felt like they were pulled straight out of a 16^th century French cathedral with how heavy they were. A large group of guys wanted to move 3 or 4 tables together when I was here and while the staff said it was ok, I don’t believe they really like their chairs and tables scuffed along the floor all that much.
My main reason for visiting was to get a couple bottles of the just-​released Unconquerable Sun barrel-​aged stout. I plan on aging mine just a little longer, but while I was here, I couldn’t resist trying the Aquavit Walnut, continuing the barrel-​aged trend of the day.
The brewery has 13 taps, and you’ll always find the Urban Farmhouse on tap as their flagship beer, and for $ 3 a pint, it’s a steal. It’s a good blend between a Saison but also has nice crisp flavors similar to a pilsner and is an easy drinking beer. They have seasonal standards like the Pils, Wit, and Myrtle, and they are always experimenting and coming out with small-​batch beers for the tasting room. They do provide taster trays as well if you want to sample multiple beers.
For food options, it’s pretty limited, albeit tasty. Cheese, salami, and crackers are available from The Cheese Annex. You haven’t heard of The Cheese Annex? That’s because they are an offshoot of The Cheese Bar and this is their only location! Looking forward to checking out their future releases.

Great selection of beer. The Fleur de Ferme is definitely my favorite. Food here is also delicious. Grilled cheese and tomato soup is the way to go if you need comfort food.

I did not have any food there, but I really enjoyed the beer. A few people I was with really enjoyed their food.

I really loved the Boysen. Not too sweet. Great atmosphere, friendly service and great t shirts!

Just a few more breweries, till we have tried each brewery in Portland. Industrial meets contemporary is the vibe. Old warehouse with exposed brick, this brewery is not your typical place to get the same old style of beers found all over Portland.
A definite stop to enjoy a new medley of flavors. I fancied la fleur de ferme, which had hibiscus, chamomile and lavender notes subtle, yet an enjoyable brew. Some of my favorite flowers in a brew, what more could a gal want?
We’ve already had lunch prior to our arrival, but would love to try their boards, as they seemed scrumptious and complementary to the beer selection. Bring your taste buds, as I am sure there’s something for all four: sweet, sour, bitter and salty (cheese)!

SAISONS FOR DAYS. Loved it. Every bit of it.
Their food menu looked amazing and all the food coming out of their little kitchen looked legit. Can’t wait to come back.

Beer is good. Very flavorful and unique. Portland has good beer in general so it takes a little more than good beer to get a 5 star review. This place earns it’s fifth star because of the amazing bartender. Super friendly and helpful. I would love to come back just to talk to this guy. I will note that we ordered some food and it wasn’t what we expected. The mac n cheese is like a mac n cheese crispy patty. The flavor was great but it seems smaller than I would have liked.

One of my favorite Breweries in my Portland Craft Beer trip. It’s primarily a Belgian/​French Ale House style brewery with Saison’s /​Farmhouse ales. Every beer I had in this category was very good to excellent/​incredible. They are GABF winning so they have the goods to prove it.
GO, especially if you’re a fan of Belgian/​French Saison/​Farmhouse Ales!

Compared to some of the other brew-​pubs we visited while we were in Portland, this place was just okay.
It felt kind of like a warehouse inside, but it makes sense since it’s also a brewery. Lots of open space that could have been filled with tables, but instead people just stood around some barrels. I think their motto is «Gather Around Beer» and well, that was definitely the atmosphere.
My husband loves IPA’s. I do not. I’ve been sticking with ciders and sours lately, so I opted for one of those (I really don’t remember what it was), mostly because there was a pairing special and it came with cheese and crackers. So, yes please. Unfortunately though, whatever I had tasted a bit how I would image stale urine would taste. But that’s just how I react to all IPA’s. Hubby thought it was great.
Anyway, probably not worth stopping by again if we’re in town, but it wasn’t a terrible experience or anything.

Definitely one of my favorite breweries in the Portland area. So much good beer in a cool hip industrial space. The high exposed ceiling, the brick exposed walls, and thick wood accents make the space. We didn’t try the food, but the cheese and meat trays looked good.
We had 7 of their offerings and one guest tap for 2 sets of tasters. We went because we are fans of the Farmhouse and the Farmhouse Rye; but found new favorites. Madrone was the tops with Pils, Petite Classique, and (guest beer Bobtober) rounding out our samplers. Next time, we look forward to staying a bit longer and trying the food.

We stumbled upon this brewery on accident on the Southeast side.
After visiting Basecamp, we were looking for our next place and happened to see this on our walk by the Rogue Garage Sale.
It appears to be fairly new, and has a pretty good overall feel. The barrel tables seem to be adequate to accommodate the crowd. We got a flight of four beers.
To our surprise, every beer came out looking the exact same! They were all a light golden blonde, despite the very different flavors of each. The urban farmhouse ale was notable.
There was a very good mix of people in this place. Young professionals, hipsters, and olds alike all congregated here to grab a drink.
The place seems to have a lot of potential and Id love to visit in a year or so to see where they are.

I came here as recommended by friends and the vibe is quite casual and friendly. Only problem for me is that they were mostly farmhouse, saison, belgin style which are not my favorite flavors. But good for some. The beer quality is good, tap room is nice, and friendly staff give this a 4 star rating.

Hands down, easily our favourite brewery we visited in our recent trip to Portland. If we didn’t have such limited time in this awesome city we would have been happy to set up here for most of the day drinking our way through the entire menu. Had some great chats with the staff and fellow patrons also — just had that kind of vibe. My kind of place.

Had every beer on the menu and was delighted at the richness and depth of some of the brews.
Pretty reasonably priced with nice walkability.

A bigger and better version of the old spot complete with food options. You can still watch the brewing action while sipping on your favorite Commons Beer.
