Taco Time

Good food, clean but undecorated dining area, There is a tv with the sound off. Nothing special but its quick and cheep!

Ok here goes…
I have been a customer for many years. I even remember as a kid living north of Seattle going to TT for their all-​you-​can-​eat menu on Sundays. After several trips by my 3 brothers and I they discontinued that service.
Even after a trip to Greece this last spring when I swore off all fast food, I convinced myself that this wasn’t really fast food since it was higher quality. I’ll say it before you do… I know, I was delusional. I’ve fallen off the fast food wagon two other times since returning from my trip and felt really guilty about it. But somehow never felt that way eating here.
I didn’t feel guilty today. I felt betrayed!
It all started with their latest dish… chili.
I like many am a creature of habit and usually order a two taco meal with some yummy mexi-​fries and if super hungry throw in a super soft taco. But after seeing their commercials for the new «house made chili» and «made from scratch daily» I figured this was going to be the star of my meal so I ordered the rest from their 4 for $ 5.55 menu, and went ahead and got my usual red and green sauces and a pile of jalapenos ready from their salsa bar.
Then the food came. WTF?!? This is chili? Two or three ice cream sized scoops of ??? plopped into what would otherwise be considered their mexi-​fry style bowl. Yep I said scooped and plopped. Not ladled and poured like chili should be. There is no way possible you could ladle or pour this stuff. Again wtf?!? Took a couple bites and there is no way this could ever be called anything close to chili… or even food for that matter. Are you kidding me?!?
Don’t get me wrong. I like bad food. Even bad chili. I’ve put away more than my fair share of 7 – 11 burritos and AM/​PM cheeseburgers in my day and loved every minute of it. And plenty of Nalley canned chili as well. That should say something about my temperament for food.
First off the ingredients. There are 5 listed which I won’t repeat here but will say that the last three on the list were 100% non-​existent. That leaves ingredient number two — black beans. They should say black bean (singular) as my entire cup had one lonely black bean. That leaves the number one ingredient — seasoned beef. Stupid me saw the cup of chili in their ads and thought there would be nice chunks of ground beef in that yummy brown liquid with beanS and other ingredients. Nope, no chunks… not even ground… more like mashed beef. And «seasoned», yeah if you consider adding a thickening agent to that already mashed to a pulp beef to get a paste like consistency — «seasoning», then I guess so. I mean I could literally build up little walls with my «chili» like you can with mashed potatoes before you pour your gravy in.
I’m pretty sure this one was pulled from the Wendy’s playbook but much worse in execution. Take yesterday’s leftover meat and add a bunch of stuff to it to stretch it out as much as possible so we can add a couple cents to our investors’ quarterly dividends.
Shame on you Taco Time for calling this sludge meat!!!
All that being said I can let one item on a menu slide. But then I saw on that very same chili cup «made fresh daily since 1960» and started mentally deconstructing the rest of my meal. Two hard shell tacos, a bean and cheese burrito and a crispy burrito of some type. I say of some type because I really don’t remember if it was their crispy meat or crispy bean. In either case they go into the same fryer so they all come out tasting the same way. Crispy and bland. The bean and cheese burrito: again bland and I’m 99% sure they don’t make their own refried beans daily from whole pinto beans. So if poured out of gallon plus sized cans into a vat and reheated is «fresh» then this is as fresh as it gets. And that cheese where every piece is the exact same mini match stick size piece has got to come out of a 10 or 20lb bag, not shredded fresh. It even keeps its shape when melted. how does it do that? Or more importantly what’s in it? Hard shell tacos: once you peel away the tomatoes and lettuce (possibly the only two «fresh» items in my entire meal you have a mass produced ortega style shell, aforementioned match stick cheese and ever so slightly more coarse «ground» beef than their chili, still without flavor. So made fresh daily??? Where???
And lastly the salsa bar. I will let your mind wander and make your own decisions on this. But think small kids (you know. the ones who always seem to have a little snot running out of their nose), and how they like to put their fingers in or grab anything barely in reach. And how they love colors :) But that’s just kids being kids and I’m sure they hardly ever eat here.

Adiós Taco Slime!!!

I was going to Taco Bell and I decided at the last second to give Taco Time a shot. I guess they decided to close the dining room at 840 today. Website says 10. I am told to go through the drive thru.
I’m writing this review from Taco Bell. Who knew Taco Bell would beat anything.

Alright food, HORRIBLE service. This can’t really be considered «fast» food when a simple 5 item drive thru order takes FIFTEEN minutes. No exaggeration. Idk if this a franchise or not, but either way they clearly need to hire more help. I keep coming here (once a month or so), but tonight will have been my last visit. If I want crappy «Mexican» fast food, I’ll go across the street to Taco Bell where I actually can get my food FAST.

This taco time is incredible! Wonderful customer service friendly workers and great food! Wish The Oregon city taco time was as customer service oriented. Totally recommend taco time on 50^th and Powell!

Let’s get down to it.
Taco Time is what it is. A taco bell type place. I think its a little less processed than tb. It’s tasty, quick and inexpensive. I give it three for the food, which is good for a basic meal. Another star for the super service from the girl there and the fact that they have tater tots.

Why is this place still open? The «new owner» removed the happy hour menu, so everything is full price. $ 2.29 for a crisp meat burrito! Its no wonder the lobby and drive thru is empty. Must be a huge tax write-​off. Maybe instead of «taco time», it should be called; «Closing Time»

Standard Taco Time fare in a former KFC. Nothing too special, but at least a lot of food is made from scratch on site. I’m impressed the franchise is holding its own across the street from more well known and value priced Taco Bell.
Make sure to try the salsa bar in store over pre made packages.

It’s time to avoid the chicken «street tacos» at all cost. I mean what street are these things from anyway? Mine were pretty much fatty pieces of microwaved chicken with questionable grill marks.
