This place is great! Awesome neighborhood business. Their hours a little hard to track, but their service is great, they do a great job grooming, and have always treated my dog well.

If you’re super fancy and like to pay a bunch for special treatment, maybe this ain’t your place.
If you like a local neighborhood business with great rates give these guys a shot.
Today was my first ever appointment. I’ve been driving 25mims way out east to youknowwhere for the past few years since moving to Portland. $ 60 and at least two weeks notice began to get tiring, so when I chanced upon this place a few weeks ago I put it in the memory bank.
I called at 11am and dropped off Baxter at 1:00. They washed him, cut his hair, clipped his nails, and brushed his teeth for $ 40. Sure, they missed a spot here and there — but he’s a scraggly puppy anyway and I’m 100% happy.
My only regret is not having cash and bumbling the tip on Square. I would have liked to given her $ 10, but had to settle for a hastily 20% just to get my exited dog outside to pee!
Great work crew. You’ve scored a new customer.

I absolutely trust this place. I have bathed my dogs there, they have everything you need! I have also left my dogs for grooming and they are deliciously clean when done. The service is excellent. It is not a fancy place and this is perfectly fine with me. I go there for the service. The people who work there are kind and are genuinely interested in the dogs. In addition, services are correctly priced.

We’ve been bringing our dog here for u-​wash for years. We love the friendliness of the owners and their employees, the well designed tubs that are easy to use and drain better than most, the generous supplies and selection of grooming products. Highly recommend this neighborhood business.

I’ve been taking my dogs here for about a year and a half (for both grooming and self-​wash) and loved them first. However the last two times I brought my dog in to be groomed, I felt they did a pretty poor job. The last time they didn’t even cut her nails.
I thought I’d give them one last chance and showed up for my 1pm grooming appointment to find a sign on the door saying they’re closed due to being sick today. I completely understand having to close because they’re sick but I don’t understand not calling and informing the appointments for the day (they take down your number when you set an appointment). I’m not the only one that didn’t get called as another woman walked up with her dog for her appointment as I was there. I’ll be finding a new groomer to go to now.

I have taken my dog here several times and am always greeted with a smile (even when they are insanely busy).
I am especially smitten after my last visit. I no longer live in the neighborhood, but was around visiting and running errands and decided to drop in to see if they could take her, last minute. They did! Actually, the guy who bathed her, wasn’t even scheduled to work that day. He happened to be in showing off his new baby and said that he would come back to wash my dog because they were so busy and wouldn’t be able to do it otherwise. C’mon, who does that, unless they really like their job?
I will happily drive the 10 extra miles back to my old hood for great service and will do so again today.

Friendly staff that is unfailingly kind to the dogs (and people) who visit, fair prices, no waiting, a nice selection of shampoos and such, and good music on the stereo. My dog doesn’t mind climbing right in to the wash station, which is really saying something!

I took my goldendoodle in to have him groomed today and the nice lady (don’t know her name) who took my information asked me how long I wanted his hair to be. I showed her with my fingers 2 inches – his hair was about 5 inches long all over when I brought him in. I also said that I’d like his face and tail to also be two inches long along with the rest of him. She said, that wouldn’t be a problem, and I left.
This is the same request I’ve made each time I’ve brought my dog there for the past five years, so I was expecting the same thing I always get. When I got back to pick him up, another nice person, Jeremy, charged me $ 60, which is the price I’ve paid every other time. Jeremy said that he had just been helping out today since the owners were out of town, and asked me to be sure to let them know if I had any questions or anything needed to be redone.
When I got home, I noticed that my dog’s hair is cut to 2 inches all over except for a large patch on his back which is still 5 inches long, and his tail is also still 5 inches long.
I left a message on the machine for someone to call me back since Jeremy had specifically asked me to do so, and the owner called me back from right away.
I tried to explain the problem, and he kept interrupting, saying that he already knew where this was going. (interesting – perhaps he’s heard this same complaint before, and doesn’t even need to hear it explained?) I tried to say that all I wanted was to bring my dog back in tomorrow to have that one patch cut as short as the rest of him, and right away the guy got very aggressive and obnoxious.
He said it was ok as it was, since they’d gotten all of the thicker hair out (keep in mind that he hasn’t actually seen my dog today – he’s out of town). He said that what I had asked for was in fact a ‘custom cut’, and should have cost $ 300. He added that they have no clippers at all to cut a dog’s hair to 2 inches long (untrue-​the entire rest of his body is the 2 inches long).
He said that I was an irresponsible dog owner because I hadn’t done my research on this to know that what I had asked for was outrageous, and he said that he was amazed I could be so upset about just that tiny amount of money – $ 60. He even said that he questioned my psychological health, since all I cared about was money and the how my dog looks, rather than caring about how a dog should properly be groomed by seasoned professionals such as himself (except that my dog was groomed by Jeremy, the nice guy that was filling in for the day).
I tried, amid all the interruptions, to say that if what I had asked for was really so outrageous, then they should have told me that when I went in, and I would have happily gone somewhere else. I also tried to explain that I have been asking for and receiving the same thing every 6 months for the past 5 years at Sellwood Grooming, and it’s always been just fine. He never let me get to that part.
I will be going in first thing tomorrow to get my money back. I have NEVER been treated this poorly by someone whose shop professes to have a Satisfaction Guarantee – especially since I’ve been a loyal customer of Sellwood Grooming for the past five years. Needless to say, that loyalty has ended.

Basing this on self wash only. I’m giving this place 5 stars because they basically let me use as much shampoo and any of their tools I want. I mean they are happy to let me and offer it up — which I don’t abuse so it works great.
Let’s just say my dog is a filthy animal. She’s an 85lbs lab and can just start to smell bad sitting on a bed of fresh linens inside a hermetically sealed room. She gets the normal dog mankieness from exercise and being in the moist PDX climate; but its the anal glands. Of those effing anal glands. I get her juiced like a lemon all the time, but she still managed to get that metalic-​fish-​crap smell eminating from her once and a while.
During the wet/​cold months it makes no sense to wash her in the yard here, so I have taken her to Sellwood grooming 5 – 6 times now. Nice people, especially the staff. Price is $ 16 for a big dog (85 lbs). Although pricing seems to be a ittle inconsistant.
I take her in, hop into a tub — 2 shampoos (lab coats are greasey so need a deep clean), towel dry, over to the air dryer station, may be a nail trim.
Oh and of course my femal lab is a heavy marker of her territory so always drops a duece on the floor or right outside the front on the way out. Staff always helps me clean up without a complaint. (There is your 4 to 5 star rating right there.)
Not a fancy joint so you won’t feel like you are at a Starbucks or some swanly doggy hotel — but gets the job done.
I can’t comment on grooming skills as a lab never needs them. But for de-​funking a stinky pup on your own it is perfect for me.
Bonus — usually good music too. Not always but a lot of 90’s alt rock which is noce to hear now and again.
*Tip — small bottles of shampoo at stations are totally watered down. You can, most the time, grab one of the big sampoos which have the real deal. 2 – 3 pumps of the good stuff and you are done.

COULDN’T BE HAPPIER! What you get: GREAT PRICES, quick service, sunny personalities and a neighborhood feel. I think its normal to wonder what happens to your pet if you leave them at the groomers… here, they feature an open shop floor plan, you can see everything that is going on. This is a group that seems knowledgeable about animal behavior and they seem to actually care about your pet.

Love this place. Super clean and all the pups play in a play area rather than sitting in kennels. My dog is always super nervous going to the groomers but he felt totally at ease here.

This is the best U wash and grooming place in PDX! I would seriously write off the nasty comments below as either nasty people themselves or misunderstandings– which happen sometimes.
I was putting off finding a place in SE, after years going to a place in NE. The drive was too much, so I reluctantly tried these guys (reluctant cause I loved my old place). And all I can say is WOW…
After doing a wash myself, during which they were attentive and brought me anything I needed, I was going to have them just do her nails. But when he found some doggie dreads, the owner shaved them off, then tidied up her paws, and even did a shave around her vulva which– ahem– is a problem area for her and the vet recommended we do just that. During the wash, I noticed she had a raw spot, and though they aren’t vets by any means, they showed genuine concern and had a look at it. They were just so tender and thorough, going far above and beyond. They even snipped up her crazy butt tufts and basically did a minor grooming for free.
But the best part was that everyone there is truly passionate about animals and their care, and it really shows. Absolutely lovely people, with great experience, and very generous and kind. And… it was $ 10! cheaper than what I used to pay for self-​wash and for them to do nail clippings. And at the other place, no one ever took much interest in my dog, or offered to help me get all the mattes out or go the extra mile.

Great place to wash your dog! We have two labs and we just go here for the self wash tubs. The owner, Springtime, is very nice and accommodating. The facilities are great and easy to use. Good supplies and lots of choices for shampoos and such. The price is far less than most other dog wash places who want $ 20+ for the use of the tub, ridiculous! One other nice bonus is you don’t have to look for parking, they have their own lot.

Our dog is a medium, long-​haired mix… and a bit anti-​social. One of the owners, Shawn, is our main groomer. He’s excellent with our dog! While usually our dog would be shaking or resisting a groom, I watched in awe as he stood completely content while Shawn worked on him. While Shawn is laid-​back in general, he’s also quite a perfectionist when it comes to grooming. He listens carefully to how we want our dog groomed and he always does a fabulous job.
The only downfall is sometimes it takes a little longer than expected.

We have an Australian Shepherd mix with course, shaggy fur. We had a terrible experience at a nearby groomers and were unwilling to take him back. The girl who groomed him at this other place had no idea what she was doing and ended up butchering his coat. It was like she had thrown him into a wood chipper, slapped a bandana around his neck and called it good for $ 30.
We decided to try this place out because of its reviews and were not disappointed. We were immediately put at ease when the male groomer walked us through his technique, the tools he was going to use and the effect it was going to create. He seemed to understand our dog’s needs and felt confident that he could do what we wanted.
The appt took a little longer than we’d expected and was a bit more spendy but our dog looked gorgeous and felt silky smooth. This guy knows what he’s doing and we’ll definitely be back.

All I have to say is if having your dog look like a sad sheep is the outcome you want from a place then book an appointment.
The first time I went they chopped all her ear hair off, but she did have some matts so we thought that was the only reason. But the next time was an even bigger disaster.
I have a 16 yo maltese so I have seen my fair share of good and bad grooming. This was the worst.
They cut her face hair and bangs and beard like a poodle or something, then didn’t cut her legs or body at all. They said they didn’t want her to get cold but she looks like a mess.
The people were nice when we called to ask if we could get her shaped up (but when she shaved more off her legs it was all crooked) and they are nice, I don’t have anything against the shop other than they don’t have good grooming skills.
And she didn’t even get a scarf or bow!

I only use the u-​wash, so that’s what I’m basing my rating on. The people who own this place are nice and I’ve never had a problem with them ignoring me or providing poor service. It’s clean and there are are always plenty of supplies {towels, shampoo, grooming tools} available.
The tubs are always clean and they don’t mind how long it takes you. I think the prices are fair and it’s a laid-​back environment. The one caution I would say, is that if you have a dog that gets nervous around other loose dogs, then this is probably not the place for you since the grooming space and the u-​wash share a pen, so there are always dogs running around the enclosed area.
Overall, I really like this place and I’m so glad to have one in the neighborhood that’s so convenient.

It seems that all the dog parks are basically mud pits this time of year. And so after a good romp at the park little Q was filthy and definitely not welcome in our house. Luckily this little grooming/​u-​wash place is on the way home, so we decided to give it a try.
The guy that helped us out was really friendly and helpful and encouraged us not to worry about what a mess we were making. That’s why we were there, he said, and not using our own tub. How true. He helped us get Q secured in the tub and made sure we had all the shampoo and coat whitener we’d need as well as other pointers. After the bath he showed us how to clean her ears with the swabs and ear cleaner they provide and how to use the dryers. He was even able to get some pets in, which is pretty impressive with this shy pup.
Washing at a place like this is SO MUCH easier than dealing with the tub at home. She’s secured to the tub so she can’t run away, both sides of the tub are accessible, the handheld sprayer nozzle is way more effective than pouring water from an old take out container like we do at home. The shampoo wasn’t super lather-​y and I felt like I had to use a ton of it, but it worked and I wasn’t paying for how much of it I used. They have a couple different kinds of dryers, but they freaked the pup out and since she’s short haired we decided to give up after a few minutes. She air-​dries pretty quick.
For this convenience we paid $ 14, based on Q’s weight I think –she’s about 40 lbs. I didn’t notice any signage with pricing for different weights, but this was about what I expected to pay. Overall I was super happy with the whole thing and will definitely be back before the parks dry out for summer.

The people who work at Sellwood Grooming are very nice. There are two guys who work there who are really kind, and offered to give us a discount when we brought in one of our dogs repeatedly for self-​wash, given that he needed a medicated shampooing 2x/​week.
However, others who work there don’t seem to have a very good memory. The first time we went in, we introduced ourselves to the female owner, explained we were new in the neighborhood. and we wanted to bring our dogs for grooming appointments. We explained who are dogs were, what kind of breeds they were, and their names. When we arrived for our appointment, the owner got confused and thought that it was just one dog. I guess that can happen to anyone.
We let that go, but then, on three separate occasions, some major part of the grooming or washing, which we’ve also asked for has been neglected. Once, it was cleaning our dogs’ faces (our dogs came back dirty and matted around their beards), and twice it was a private area clean-​up, which we specifically asked for. It’s odd to ask for specific things, and not to receive what you’ve asked for. It’s also frustrating since it’s less than 5 minutes away from our house. But, we’re going back to our old place, 20 minutes away, since it’s better to have a good grooming experience than a bad one you pay for!
For self-​wash, Sellwood Grooming is really good. For grooming, not so much!
