Definitely will be revisiting this place. The décor is awesome. Bookshelf from floor to ceiling with encyclopedia britannica on the shelf. Well crafted mocha and the donuts are served piping hot. They also have a lunch menu with sandwiches. The place was crowded when I got there but it was lunch time.

Donuts are amazing, great place to study(although frequently busy), coffee has been hit or miss for me. The drip coffee was really bad last time I was there, but I assume this was a one-off. It still gets 4 stars though because it’s got a great comfy atmosphere and is one of the few places I can hole up for hours to get work done.

Rocking Frog is warm, cozy, and has awesome donuts and huge vegan muffins. I love how the coffee shop is in a house, and you can sit on the front porch or in the back patio. The wifi always works, so their are lot of people working on their computers. Good place to meet friends or work.

This is a review by a vegetarian Cozy little converted house café. Made-to-order full size donuts in a couple of basic flavors. $ 1.50 per or 6 for $ 7. Latte and a donut makes for one of the better $ 5-or-less coffee & breakfast bread combos in the city. Little outdoor area out back. On site parking for a couple of cars. Serves Ristretto Roasters.

An essential Portland coffeeshop. Housed in a delightful old house, WiFi that always works, plenty of lovely books to browse, a ton of great flyers on the wall, a decent selection of board games, and oh yeah, that’s a killer back porch too. Much has already been said about the food: another major vote for their donuts(somehow still the worst-kept deep fried secret in town) and their infinitely craveable Ed Abbey breakfast sandwich. Pro tip: If you get the bacon/cheddar muffin, make sure to get it heated. Doing otherwise is … weird.

This is one of my go-to’s for working. The first time I went, the wi-fi was shit so I almost never went again despite those damn donuts being so good. Alas, I returned for the donuts and the wifi was rockin’ and has been ever since. The sandwiches are real good, with hardy crusty bread, mm. Super cute cozy place to relax and zen out to excel spreadsheets. The people that work here are entertaining — not your typical service industry men. I asked one of the guys which sandwich I should get and he replied with«the first one because I don’t feel like making the other one». Fair enough, I can get down with the honesty. There’s also one of those very portland aspiring girls who kinda picks and chooses whose she nice to, me not being one of them, but again I won’t get the panties twisted over it. Love this place NOMATTERWHAT.

This place is an absolute plum and a peach. The charm and eccentricities of its staff and décor may be overlooked by the untrained eye. The inconsistencies are poetry. Sometimes they will start making a beverage and ask you what size you would like after it’s said and done, to which«surprise me» is probably the best suited even if you’ve paid for a medium. The staff are perhaps the most nonchalant, charming, and inexplicable I have ever seen. They are impervious to haste or attitude thrown their way. Marching to their own drum is too tame, it’s the whole orchestra. Their walnut salad comes complete with amazing dressing, greens, apples, and of all things cashews. We are left to wonder if it’s an oversight or we are being told that it doesn’t matter and shouldn’t matter, a nut is a nut. This wasn’t once but every time we have ordered it and since that first fateful time my sister and I send each other packs or nuts and use their names entirely interchangeably. I adore this strange slice of life. If you like a cookie cutter day and have allotted only 10 – 20 minutes to wait for food perhaps go elsewhere, but if you are groggy and perhaps seeking some whisper of adventure let the staff work their magic on you for a delicious and otherwise charmed experience.

Hot damn. Hot donuts. Chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, maple, and plain…$ 1.50 for one or $ 7 for 6. Don’t show restraint, get 6 and my suggestion would be to double up on the cinnamon, but that’s because I LOVE cinnamon. They’re piping, they’re fresh, they’re all kinds of good. The guys that work there were clowns, but in an entertaining way. Not sure of what was going on but they managed to take the order, give change, and produce circles of joy, so can’t fault them for their lackadaisical attitudes. Looks like it used to be a home, so there’s little nooks and crannies perfect for studying or working. They have a small parking lot and some outdoor seating in the back(wooden picnic tables).

Crispy, fresh doughnuts(some of the best in Portland) and Ristretto coffee. Great atmosphere. Minus one star for the mediocre sandwiches but everything else is awesome!

The Rocking Frog Café is a great little coffee shop in Southeast Portland. It’s got wonderful coffee, delicious food, a cozy feel, and a fun, bookish vibe. Whether you get it hot or iced, the standard drip coffee is phenomenal here. They usually offer a variety of beans, too, if you order it hot. Most recently, I had an iced coffee here that had just the perfect acidity to make it refreshing on a hot morning. I normally put sugar in iced coffee, but this one didn’t need it at all. Likewise, in cold weather, their hot drip coffee is a fine pick-me-up, and needs no adornments. The Rocking Frog is good for brunch and lunch as well as just coffee. My sandwich, the Hemingway, had ham, scrambled eggs, and maple cream cheese on it, and was served piping hot on crusty Italian bread. Delicious. The ham had just the right amount of salt and smoke to it, while the eggs were light and fluffy. The maple cream cheese was rich, but only slightly sweet, imparting a subtle maple flavor that played well with the ham. Definitely a balanced sandwich, as well as delicious. The doughnuts here are incredible! Always cooked on the spot, they come out of the fryer bursting with flavor, yet not at all greasy. I’d recommend the vanilla highest of all, but they’re all good. Another thing I love about the Rocking Frog is its atmosphere. It’s definitely literary, but not at all pretentious. The sandwiches are named for famous authors and there are numerous books to peruse, and the comfy chairs are perfect for hanging out on a cold winter’s day with a book or magazine. I love the worn-in feel to the place, noticeable in its comfortable furniture, its old hardwood floors, and its many nooks. It’s very easy to lose track of time and wind up spending hours just hanging out here, noshing on coffee and doughnuts and enjoying the vibe. With its combination of great food, great drinks, and great atmosphere, the Rocking Frog is definitely a great place. Come here to take it easy and relax a while, alone or with a friend. Either way, you’ll feel welcome.

In a city with many world-class donut shops, the best donuts might very well be served at a business without the word«donut» in its name. Rocking Frog is a killer spot for so many reasons, but it would be criminal to so much as bring them up in conversation without mentioning their hot donuts. For a mere $ 1.50, you can get your greasy little paws on a hot, made-to-order vanilla, chocolate, plain, or maple donut. They fall apart in your hands, and then somehow fall even more apart in your mouth. If for some reason you’re not in the mood for donuts, this is still an awesome café. The ambiance is unparalleled. You feel very much at home in this quaint and distinctly house-like space. Sit in the«living room» or the«library» while you enjoy your drinks and food. Oh yeah, they have drinks and food. With coffee by Ristretto Roasters, tea by Jasmine Pearl, you can order just about any beverage off the menu and be happy with it. The sandwiches are literary in theme and delicious in taste. How does Prosciutto, Fig, Goat Cheese, Greens, and Balsamic glaze sound on a ciabatta bun? It’s no hot chocolate donut… but it serves a purpose. Wifi is reliable. Bathroom is clean. Employees are nice. All things considered, this is a great place to kill several hours, working or otherwise. I love this place and I’ll be back many times.

I have no problem saying these were the best donuts EVER. It was recommended by a friend, and if I can trust him with anything it’s knowing his donuts. ;) It took a while for the donuts to come out but ohhhh myyyyy were they fresh! Get the cinnamon — simple fried goodness. I had to take some beans home, too, because the Ristretto coffee was so good. Very quaint, charming, converted home with bookshelves that make me envious. One shelf was organized by color and reminds me of The Lost Bookstore in LA. But Portland, I love your coffee and all things breakfast!

A nice little coffee shop in a converted house. Seating is cozy and welcoming — there’s a front room with some big chairs and a coffee table, a natural wood side table in the entry nook. There’s another room lined with bookshelves, an ordering counter in the back, and another smaller room in the back with some more seating. Since it’s a converted house, it’s comfortable to camp out at a table and study or tap away at a laptop, and it’s a bit of a throwback from the modern, more sterile shops that tend to be popping up. It’s the kind of place you could go and read a book and feel perfectly at home. Bike rack is hidden in the back(as well as a big patio area with picnic tables). Overall, a nice change of pace from most of the newer coffee shops, and one that I’ll visit when I’m looking for a more intimate setting.

It’s in a house, so there’s limited room, but super cozy. They have tables and lounge chairs. Outside there’s one table on the front porch, one on the front lawn, and a couple on the back patio. Their food is delicious and locally-made. Their drip coffee is brewed well. And their mixed drinks are pretty on par. They also let you pre-pay a tab with your name on it. It’s not a fancy, modern coffee shop. It’s a neighborhood coffee shop. Go and relax. Sit down in the back and soak up the sunshine. The front room has nice big chairs to snuggle in and read a book. They are also placed right inside the front window. During a sunny day, it’s cozy. One of my favorites.

Great place for a quick coffee or bite to eat. High end kind of sandwiches for breakfast & lunch. First time here for lunch I got their Prosciutto sandwich & for breakfast today I got their bagel sandwich with prosciutto, eggs, tomato, pesto & cream cheese. It was piled high & so good! Not a non-stop hopping place like all of the popular breakfast places which is great.

First off, I was excited to try the donuts. I got here an hour after opening and the donut price was raised to $ 1.50 and the employee said there were no donuts today. No apology, no story on the reason why. The guy behind the counter didn’t understand why I was asking the type of coffee they had on for espresso that day too. on top of that, THEIRSQUAREREGISTERWASAUTOMATICALLYSETTOPAYANADDITIONAL $ 2TIPIFYOUDON’T OPTOUT. Rocking frog gets two stars because their coffee was decent, nothing spectacular, and the cinnamon roll I ordered instead of the donuts was great.

Rocking Frog offers up a nice study space complete with cozy rooms, refillable ristretto roasters coffee, and delicious large breakfast sandwiches. The service is good, they offered to keep a tab open for me so that I could hit the minimum while waiting for a friend to arrive. Their breakfast options were plentiful, the breakfast sandwich with roasted poblano, caramelized onion, scrambled eggs, gouda and chipotle aoili is delicious. The sandwiches come on ciabatta rolls and pretty filling. We will be back for some more comfortable study time.

A very unique coffee me shop with a fireplace, library, and back«study» areas. I feel immediately at ease here and can spend all day in this café. Nice easy listening music in the background, good coffee, fresh baked pastries tempting me with made to order donuts, along with sandwiches and salads. Another favorite to add to my list!

Decent egg sandwiches but not if you’re in a rush. I think it took about 15 – 20 minutes for 3 sandwiches. I tried the egg sandwich with poblano chile, caramelized onion, Gouda, and chipotle aoili. It was really tasty and the egg portion is thick. Coffee was light. Not my favorite but fairly inexpensive. I’ve heard the donuts are good but can be greasy if not drained properly first.

I was in the neighborhood with a friend and we were starving. Rocking Frog sounded fun so yes, we did come in here based on the name but, of course, the Unilocal rating helped. We ordered sandwiches: one was the ham, Brie, caramelized onion, & mustard and the other was the prosciutto, fig, chèvre, greens, & balsamic glaze(the Bukowski and the Wilde, respectively). I believe all of their sandwiches are named after famous authors/poets. The sandwiches were both good, but as much as I love Brie, I thought the combination of prosciutto and fig made the other sandwich the better of the two. In addition, the friend ordered a coffee and I went with an iced latte, and we also decided to do the 6 donuts for $ 5 since we were in the mood for a treat. That was a mistake and here’s why: I talked the friend into the 6 for $ 5 because it just made more sense. We were getting more for our money, of course, and I’ve been to several places that make their own donuts. They’ve always been more like mini-donuts and left me wanting more… well, these were NOT mini donuts. They were large and piping hot, deep-fried deliciousness. Suffice it to say, they needed to be eaten first(otherwise, they wouldn’t have been as good, you know) and 6 turned out to be too many because all of them were eaten before we touched the sandwiches. I was almost ill. That is not something I normally do and I felt really bad about myself by the time we walked out the door. The chocolate was the star for me though. And oh yeah, my iced latte was excellent too.
