I’d go up another star if their staff had better customer service skills. I work close by and have ordered online for pickup from this place twice. The first time I walked up to their pick up sign and caught the attention of a staff member to get my order. This last time I stood their, made eye contact with two different people working, and no one came over to see what I needed. Just to clarify, I was the only one at the sign and it was not busy. I then walked over to the line where a couple of people were placing orders and waited so that I could tell them that I need to pick up my food. The lady at the counter rudely told me that I needed to stand by the pick up sign where I had just been standing. When I explained this, she said«Well of course they aren’t going to help you if you don’t say something to them»… Seriously? I expect an establishment to realize that when a customer makes eye contact with them, they need something. You could also have apologized, and then helped me get someone’s attention. Middle aged lady with the short blonde hair, I hope to God that you don’t manage this establishment. The food is awesome, but if you take that kind of attitude with your customers you won’t succeed.

Rivers Edge Café isn’t bad, its just that its surrounded by superb restaurants. I went here for breakfast after a morning run and found the restaurant to be relatively crowded for a weekday around 9:30am. The casual atmosphere was perfect for my post-run meal. The food was adequate but nothing special. If you want a hot breakfast but don’t want to wait for it this is probably a good stop. It seems like it would be a good option for lunch too.

I went to eat here with my girlfriend this morning and was not pleased. She ordered cottage cheese and fruit and I ordered a Monte Cristo and we waited 25 minutes for our food. The two orders after us were finished before ours. The waitress was flustered the whole time and there were no smiles. I gotta have some smiles. My girlfriend asked for a box because she had to go and it took another ten minutes. She had to leave for work and her box showed up after she left. Luckily I needed it for my sandwich. But its ridiculous, she ordered cottage cheese and fruit so she could eat quickly.

Fantastic place for lunch. Many good options from salads to burgers. You could get something different every day. Spin the wheel.

Rivers Edge is a nice place. It’s definitely a café in which you have to pick up your food when they call your name. The menu is pretty big and is located on the walls. There are daily specials. What I’m not fond about the place is the price. It’s a little high but if you have to bus your own table to save a few bucks I’m for it. The food is fresh, nothing limp or soggy about this place. The portions for salads are increadible. They are huge so in a way it’s almost worth the $ 8.00 for the crispy chicken salad that comes with a roll. Stay away from the Longhorn Steak and Mushroom wrap, terrible. They ought to take this item off the menu. It’s soggy and the jucies from the steak soaks the wrap to the point were it’s doughy and sticky. Really bad stuff, it’s messy. A wet napkin would have been nice. I should have complained when I had that stuff… Not an everyday place to go to but I’ll come back for the food. I don’t mind busing tables, it goes back to my waitering days.

Prices are high. Staff is really rude. Food is ok at best. There are plenty of other great places to have lunch while downtown. I have been to this place three times now(once with a group and twice with one other friend) and every single time it has sucked. Spend your money elsewhere.

So, I have this thing about sandwiches and salads… they ALWAYS taste better when someone else makes them. It doesn’t matter if I use the exact same ingredients and the same amounts, something about having a sandwich and salad made for me pretty much guarantees it will be better than if I made it myself. Enter Rivers Edge Café. Here’s the deal, they’ve got a HUGE menu(overwhelmingly huge), the service is fast, the space is open and has comfortable seating and, let’s face it, any additions to the downtown lunchtime dining scene are welcome when your options are limited to Rock Bottom Brewery and Buffalo Wild Wings(Barf!). I’ve eaten here probably close to 10 times at this point and have come to this conclusion: not a single thing I’ve eaten on the menu is any better than if I’d made it myself. Does it do the trick if you’re looking for a lunch and not wanting to dine at the aforementioned schwa locales? Absolutely. But don’t expect it to knock your socks off with amazing sandwiches and salads. Chances are, you could have made it just as good yourself.

Was in the mood for a good sandwich, when we stumbled upon Rivers Edge Café … and we were not disappointed — Classic Western Style Club was GREAT! Portions are good; large enough that one half of the sandwich filled me up :) Great location, great service. I will ABSOLUTELY be back!

How the hell did I miss the menu on the wall? Seriously, it’s about 20′ long. This ain’t no building lobby sammich nook. You can get a burger and fries here, seasoned fries at that. I came in before lunch rush, so I can’t speak first hand about how they react under pressure. I did watch them deal with a long line toward the end of my stay here and things seemed to be moving along quickly. There’s plenty of seating and it has a nice, airy feel with big windows. A welcome addition to the downtown lunch trade. JW says check it out.

Finally, a decent place to find a salad at a good price, in downtown Portland. Tired of paying high prices or you want to be able to eat where you bought it? Portion sizes are good and there is definitely value for the dollar. Never mind that it’s an order-at-the-counter place. Sometimes I’m willing to overlook certain things if I think it’s worth it. You also get entertainment with Jazz in the background &2 large screen TV’s with your choice of the sports or my favorite, the Food Network. A good alternative to the crappy places downtown that cater to the work lunch bunch.
