If you’ve shopped in any number of locally-​owned gift shops or New Seasons in the last several years, you have definitely seen this woman’s work. Carye Bye makes those wonderful woodblock/​letterpress prints of all of Portland’s bridges, Paul Bunyan, bunnies on bikes, and more. They are so Portland and so cool.
I bought the full bridges set a couple of years ago and framed each individually, then hung as a big old collage on my kitchen wall — looks so rad. I’ve given her cards and postcards as gifts for a long time, too. Her Paul Bunyan (yes, the one up in Kenton:
) print hangs proudly next to a photo of yours truly dressed the same for Halloween.
Cross your fingers that you run into this artist at a craft/​holiday bazaar and snag some of the brand-​new, completely adorable 2013 calendar kits. She also offers custom print orders and letterpress workshops at her studio.
