Recess Time Sports Leagues

I have played sports with Recess Time for over 5 years. A couple seasons of dodgeball and over a dozen seasons of kickball. Didn’t realize I would end up loving kickball so much and miss it during the off seasons. The league has grown a lot over the years and it is still organized and informative. Summer season is obviously awesome because of the weather but Fall is really great too, getting bundled up and playing in the mud. Fun people, fun times, a true Portland culture. Get it!

I have been playing Recesstime Kickball since 2006, and Recesstime Dodgeball since 2009. It has been one of the best things I have ever done with my time. Not only is it fun, it’s semi-​competitive depending on what team/​league you choose.
Kickball is a fun social sport where teammates run around and play, drink beer on the sideline, sometimes grill, and hang out talk some good natured trash with other teams. I have spent many long warm summer night playing kickball and hanging out with friends. This is not your childhood kickball, however. There are varying levels of play, from fun novice to incredibly high-​level competitive play.
Dodgeball is a bit more intense, but is a great time. It is a bit intimidating watching the game being played for the first time, but once you’re in it and learn the strategy of the game, it is a ton of fun. After dodgeball, teams go to the sponsor bar and talk about their games, hang out and chat, and again, more good natured trash talking.
Most importantly, I have met some of the best friends ever through the league, and I cannot imagine life without it. It has given me so many great people, and has allowed me to stay active and get exercise without getting bored. Even after playing for years I still get excited to hang out with my friends and play fun kid sports, which is why I give the league «5» stars– I would give it 10 stars if I could.

recesstimes is great i play their kickball and dodge ball, i like that its a community based company, and that players have the option to be part of organizing /​helping with the activities rather than just a number /​customer. Its a great way to meet new friends, socializing while keeping active as a adult…

Been playing dodgeball, kickball, and occasionally bowling with this league for years now. I’ve met tons of new friends, had plenty of awesome experiences, and overall had a good time.
While the learning curve is somewhat alleviated by divisions and multiple nights, expect to take some lumps your first season (or two).
The league is constantly growing and most issues are resolved quickly. The forum is helpful for questions, recruiting, along with general time killing and smack talk (though it does get slow at times).
Overall, this is one of the best leagues out there!

I’ve been around for a while and played a lot of the sports within Recess Time. If you are thinking about joining a team and don’t know how, just get on their website and go to the forum and start asking questions. If you don’t want to do that, I think you can sign up for any of the sports as an individual and you will be put on a team. Everyone in the league is so friendly, you will make friends instantly! What are you waiting for?

I’m in my 2^nd kickball season w/​Recess Time — and it’s a lot of fun. It’s totally worth the investment of $ 60 to play an 8 game season followed by a tournament. You get a t-​shirt, and you get to ‘kick it’ with a group of peers.
Teams are co-​ed and have separate leagues depending on your team’s confidence/​abilities/​strengths.
I believe of the 5 leagues, we’re in the 2^nd from the bottom which fits us just about right. As an FYI, there are some REALLY good teams out there who are very, very serious about winning.
I’ll admit we’re competitive and definitely want to win but I’ve seen some intense games where it does not look fun at all or the other team is full of jerks.
Still, it really is a good time to socialize — you meet some great people — before and after games, people set up their camps and have food and music and just good times.

If you want to meet cool people, act like a kid and drink a few beers this is the League for you!
Recess attracts people from all ages, all fitness levels and all backgrounds. It is the highlight of my stressful week, to go spend an hour relaxing in the park and kicking or at least attempting to kick the shit out of a ball! If you feel like you just need to get out more, relax more, or just generally have fun I suggest you go sign up right now!
Its cheap, and you can play Kickball, Dodgeball, Bowling or even Ping Pong!

I’ve been playing in different leagues of Recesstime sports since 2003 and have had a great time. Most of us are very welcoming to newbies but there’s always ramp up time as people get to know one another. Stick it out and you’ll meet some awesome people.
The competitiveness of the leagues has definitely increased over the years, but I think that makes it more fun. And, in dodgeball they’ve introduced a less intense division for those who don’t want to play against aggressive teams.
Summer kickball is the best.

As adults we all want to release the stresses screaming kids, sitting in a cubical for 8 to 10 hours and retarded bosses. Recess Time Sports league is premier alternative sports league for adults in the city! What better way is there to release stress than by chucking recess balls at other willing adults for 40 minutes or making an insane catch to help your team win the match? Then head to the bar to buy the team you beat a pitcher of High Life? Come Spring spend a few hours in the sun laughing in up with friends on the pitch playing kickball? All to watch the Hoodies dominate and offer oPWNts Mad Dog 20 and Boons Farm.
In both dodgeball and kickball there are teams that are there to have fun and there are teams that want to win. It should be noted that there are some great athletes, both men and women that play in our league. In any league you play in (including Underdog) you’ll find agro players, it’s a part of all organized sports leagues. In recess for every agro player there are at least 20 awesome SOB’s.
To help new players understand the leagues rules and strategy there are at least 3 nights (Monday, Friday and Saturday) of pick up games. The league is an awesome way to meet tons of new people or even find someone special. Just ask Gary and Mandy or Levi and Shelby.
Jamie, sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Hopefully the ass munch wearing a lucha mask didn’t yell to loud at you. I’ve played in both Underdog and Recess and let me tell you Recess is 1000 times more rewarding. Jamie if you’re not «white» there will always be a spot for you on Team FOB! Our goal each season is to bring down whitey while winning the spirit award.

By the sound of the first review, kickball is a much better time than dodgeball. My friend and I had just moved to the Portland area and were excited to find a dodgeball league that would give us the opportunity to meet some cool people and have a little fun on a Tuesday night. Little did we know how serious these people were. The website was all about welcoming the ‘newbies’ and their willingness to teach newcomers… WRONG! We picked it up pretty quick but the whole rest of the league, including our team, knew we were newcomers to the sport and spent the games targeting, not letting us get anywhere near the balls (unless they were being thrown at us), and talkin’ smack. Super annoying… we gave it up about halfway through the season. Oh but hear this, so, our team had overextended itself by members being a part of other teams in the league, so for the tournament at the end of the season they begged us to return so they wouldn’t be disqualified. Oh yeah, we returned! By the time our first game started we were 3 champagne bottles of mimosas deep (with back up in our Nalgene bottles)! Take that Recesstime! Haha… they were pissed. Hence, the two stars instead of one. Hahahahaha! (We may be back if we can put together a team of peeps that just want to have a good time… anyone wanna join?!)

I just played kickball for the first time since 5^th grade! And no, I didn’t crash a Sunday school pick-​up game, I participated in a organized league comprised of cool, active, and for the most part normal adults.
Recess Time organizes dodgeball and bowling leagues in addition to kickball, and eventually there will be ping-​pong. They make all the schedules, setup the fields, and coordinate the volunteer officials. All you have to do is bring your «A» game.
The best part is they’ve acquired beer and wine permits for the parks! And in case you’re wondering, wine and kickball are a fine pairing (I asked my boy Trav @ Garrison’s).
The second-​best part is that even if your friends are too lazy, or uncoordinated, or don’t exist, you can still be part of a team through «free agency.»
So if you’re looking for a way to meet people and/​or an excuse to get off the couch, definitely check out Recess Time.
BTW, my team, Kick & Scream, kicked some butt today. Undefeated…1−0 baby!!!
