I hired Zachary to draw me a Blue Print copy for my porch, it’s more complicated than just a simple porch. It’s got a corner gazebo and a turret style roof, wrought iron inserts and concrete steps…almost like my parents’, and I emphasized I wanted the porch roof to slant higher so the snow slides off easily and not weigh the roof down. I showed him my version drawing, I thought he understood.
When he presented me the rough draft, he went over it, talking & describing to us in ‘architect’ language. They sounded good, so we gave him a deposit to finish it. If you’re not familiar with that kind of language, the details are sketchy, until the day they start to construct the roof. The day they start the roof, I went out on the lawn and I can’t find the beginning ‘slant’ of the roof. OK, there was a tiny slant, but it’s not a roof to me, if you can’t FIND IT! When I questioned the construction guy, he told me, he’s just following the Blue Print. I told him, «that’s NOT HOW I wanted the roof, I can’t even see the roof from the street! I’ve seen porches, and you could see the top of their porch roofs, where’s mine? Unless I climb up a tree, it’s NOWHERE to be seen!»
We’re heading to Hawaii, that morning, but I’m stressing out, because I didn’t want them to continue, UNLESS they get the word out, that’s NOT HOW I want the porch roof done! Back & forth with the architect & the construction company. .. finally all the details was agreed on, and work continued.
My construction company charged me for $ 950, to rip up the old roof, and make adjustments for the current roof. My architect also charged him $ 150 to re-​do the roof, but their computer crashed, so of course — no proof of payment just word by phone, my construction company charged me extra, while Zach also got a check from them.
The fact was, this was HIS FAULT, not mine, and he should have been the one who compensated for mistake that we didn’t understand. His argument was that I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN, what ¾th slant was, before we signed the paper. I know what a ¾th sleeves are, I’m a seamstress. We’re talking about wood! As a homeowner, not an architect, yeah, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. If I was an architect, I SHOULD ALSO have made the Blue Print myself, & SAVED SOME DOLLARS. But the reason why I hired him, was to hire an ARCHITECT. And I wasn’t!
