I had heard so many great things about this place and the pies do look amazing. They don’t have GF and with Celiac disease I couldn’t eat there(that’s ok). But the staff there were abrupt and had an attitude that put us on edge. We had the worst(although cheap, so there’s that at least) glass of wine I have had in years. I thought I was being helpful by bringing back our used glasses. Instead of taking them off of the bar where I attempted to set them — the guy yelled from across the room that I should put them elsewhere. Again — it was abrupt and condescending and actually startled me. I felt like an employee that had made a mistake and was being chastised. What we had hoped was a pleasant Sunday night treat ended up with me writing a review on Unilocal, which I almost never do. I really wanted to like it. Friends have recommended it. To the staff there — please think about how you would like to be treated.

Terribly slow service. Once you’ve ordered and paid it’s hard to get them to give you eye contact ever again.

The pies are delicious. I would recommend the Brandied Peach and Blackberry Apple. It’s a cozy place, but there’s plenty of seating.

I went to visit this place yesterday for the first time. I most definitely will NOT be going back. Bad pie, bad drinks and bad service. The two guys working there were complete douche bags. I’m not a violent person, but I think I would have left more satisfied had I punched both of them in the face.

Their chocolate cream pies are really good when they’re good, and really disappointing when they’re not. Maybe one out of two times, there is less chocolate pastry cream in the chocolate cream pie than there is whipped cream on top. As in, the whipped cream is 2⁄3 of the slice and the chocolate is the remaining 1⁄3. So sad! I did not want to eat an entice slice of crust and whipped cream. The first time this happened, I brought the slice back to them(completely uneaten) and asked them for another slice that had more chocolate in it thinking it must have been a mistake. The woman at the cash register had attitude about replacing my slice. «Oooohhhkaaaaay I guess…» The description is chocolate cream pie with whipped cream! Not whipped cream pie with some chocolate on it. The second time(today) that I got this pie when it was mostly whipped cream(as in, if I eat from the pointy end of my slice first, I don’t even hit chocolate until HALFWAYTHROUGHTHESLICE), I realized that this is just how they make their pies. It’s not a mistake. Bummer. So knock off a few stars for a disappointing and poorly balanced dessert. Knock off another star for crabby staff.

What can I say that no one hasnt. The pie is good. Armosphere and music is on fleek. The staff is amazing. 11⁄10 Their wifi password made me burst into laughter. And overall good time open late :) thank you Random Order.

I came here to study with my friend and it was a really nice experience! The employees were friendly to give me advice on what to order. Which I did, one of the egg sandwiches and a mocha. They were both really tasty! Probably one of the best mochas I’ve had in awhile. The sandwich was good but a little small. I would say if you like to study in silence then don’t come here, they have music on and families going in and out. But for me, I like seeing people walk through and have the occasional gossip session before going back to study. So I will definitely be back! :)

Good spot for studying and relaxing. I was there just to study and my one complaint was that the music was really loud and not exactly coffeehouse music, more metal and clanging than what I’m used to. I ordered a delicious carmel latte(certainly the best latte I have had in quite some time), a leek curry pastry and a piece of Kentucky bourbon pie. It was all really tasty. The pie had so many interesting flavors that blended together so well and a nice kick in the aftertaste. I loved it! The seating was overly comfortable but not terrible. Very fun vibe and I think they had games because there were a couple of girls sitting near me playing dominoes.

We enjoyed our coffee here. Good muffins. Pie is a bit overhyped. I had a slice of chocolate cream pie where my slice had way more cream than filling. Also I wasn’t crazy about the piecrust, as it was a bit tough to cut with a fork. Atmosphere is cozy but the place could probably use some better ventilation. When we arrived it was too stuffy, luckily the air came on a little later. But then we ended up leaving early because our eyes started burning(I think they started cooking something up at the time)

Well, that’s some damn fine pie! Purchased a couple of pies and quiche to share with my officemates, and they loved ‘em. I enjoyed my «delivery charge» of the morning breakfast egg sandwich – so flavorful and satisfying.

I didn’t come for the pies, I came for the day changers. Everyone needs to try a day changer.

Meh — doesn’t really live up to the hype. The pie slices are very large and there were plenty of choices, especially for 8pm on a Friday. Tasty post-dinner treat. The customer service here is really where they lost my interest though. The line moved very slowly, and the employees were very disengaged. I decided to let my friends order while I found a table. Every empty table had used dishes, glassware, etc. on them with no employees cleaning it up or clear place for customers to put them, so they just kept getting moved from table to table so people could find places to sit. Tables looked like they hadn’t been cleaned all night. For a tasty yet expensive piece of pie without less than pleasant ambiance, I won’t be rushing back.

The pie is some of the best I have ever had! Travel channel is spot on in naming this joint top ten best deserts in the nation. I am sad that the pictures on the wall will cause me not to visit this place again! Trying to explain to my ten year old why there are pictures of penises on the walls and a cartoon that is crude! Poor choices in décor.

Quiche is delicious, but so often it’s dry, dense, or crumbly. Today I was delighted by Random Order’s savory, custardy version. Fresh vegetables, herbs, and cheese made this the perfect partner for their carrot-ginger soup. I’ll be back the next time I visit Portland!

Had a peach with brandy and a berry with nuts last nite at a Christmas dinner and they were the perfect ending to a great dinner with family and friends. Quickly I devoured my two pieces and wanted to take some home to sacramento. I will find this great pie shop and fly it home.

What a great place to hangout. Nice cozy environment to get coffee and definitely pie and hang out. Besides the relaxed environment they have many different pies to choose from. I had the Banana Cream pie and the reason for my 4 stars aligns with what some other Unilocalers have said. It was good Pie but I had high expectations and the pie wasn’t as fresh as I would suspect. I was there probably around noon, but it was good none the less. I will be back and hopefully I can notch this place up to 5 stars after a fresh piece of pie! Definitely give this place a go!

Pie is one of my(many) favorite things ever. I’d heard about random order from a colleague and she had nothing but good things to say. The reviews on Unilocal echoed her sentiments. I had some time tonight so I came in and the café itself was packed but it looked like a cute place to hangout/get work done(I’d get distracted). That being said, the display cases looked promising(and full), especially given that it was 8pm. I have 3 staple/favorite pies ever and I strayed from my norm because the Unilocal reviews raved about the vanilla sugar and salted caramel. What a let down. All I tasted was sour apples and soggy crust. The banana cream and coconut cream looked yunmers, perhaps if I find myself here again, I’ll give one of them a go.

I came with huge expectations for the pie but not sure I got the best piece. I ordered the Tahitian vanilla sugar salted caramel apple, based on prior reviews and because it was a travel and leisure winner! My piece didn’t have much taste unfortunately. It was good but not up to the standards I expected! The whip cream helped, but I didn’t taste a strong vanilla sugar or caramel flavor, much to my disappointment. Next time, I would try the banana or coconut cream pie, those looked delectable. Saddened that this pie wasn’t mind blowing. Aside from that, the coffee shop atmosphere itself is quaint and I did stick around with multiple french press cups of coffee and got some work done. I’d give this place another try but I wouldn’t give it an out of this world 5 stars just yet.

Had high hopes walking in to this place. Smelled heavenly, people looked cozy and happy enjoying their treats and coffee. This all went downhill pretty quickly. A big family with tons of kids was by the register, parents not giving a shit what they’re doing. One of them broke a huge glass container and it shattered everywhere. The staff wasn’t too friendly to begin and I’m sure this made it worse. It took a good amount of time to clean it up so we just stood there. One employee looked at us repeatedly and never said a word. We ordered and waited and I watched the same silent employee slop my piece of pie in a box. When I say slop, I mean I watched the filling collapse out of the piece and the crust break in half. I opened the box to find maybe 5 pieces of apple and broken crust. It tasted delicious but I can’t get behind a business when the employees don’t give a shit what they give you. Not worth the wait or money.

Habanero margarita?! Yes, please! The service was excellent. We ordered some drinks and then promptly spilled one of them. We went back inside to get another and the bartender had one ready to go before we even had a chance to order it. Now that’s customer service! We didn’t order food but the margarita was perfect, with a good balance of sweet and spicy. My only complaint is the overwhelming amount of the cigarette smoke in the outside seating area.

Hello. I had the tahitian vanilla sugar salted caramel apple pie(most popular flavor) and my sister had the Kentucky pecan pie. The pies were buttery but when it got down to the crust, it was very dry. I generally don’t like pecan pies because of the gooey molasses texture but this one had a nice minced texture(go for it)! The apple pie, on the other hand, was lacking texture. It was mushy. The french press coffee was good, music was hip, and it has a warm atmosphere filled with fresh flowers and glowing candles. It’s a good hangout spot that’s perfect for all crowds.

This is strictly for the pecan pie. Tasted too much like a wet gelatin. Flavor was there but the texture made inedible. Just my opinion. I’ve eaten these all day long in the south. first time I have had one taste wet.

I had the chicken pot pie here and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely worth the wait for it to be heated, it proved just the comfort food its known to be. Succulent chicken chunks with all the required vegetables, the lovely inner-gravy, and that wonderful crust. The crust was perhaps the best feature, and one can really detect the difference, in that this has a wonderful cornmeal taste to it. With that crust in mind, I tried a slice of the Oregon Cherry pie and my only complaint is that it was too small. The cherries were so wonderfully juicy and perfectly sweet and tart, a stark contrast compared with your corner diner’s cherry pie, with its candied maraschino-like taste. Nice ambience, friendly service, and fantastic products. Recommended.

Say hello to some very good pie at Random Order Coffeehouse & Bakery. There is no randomness of what to order because you just must order pie. Caress a coffee or cradle a cocktail if you want, but not without a slice of fresh homemade pie. I say pie. You say so? You say why and I say it’s to die yo, Ohhh no You say good pie … and I say hello (Hello good pie … hello good pie) Hello hello (Hello good pie) I now know why you say good pie, I say hello (Hello good pie hello good pie) Hello hello (Hello good pie) I now know why you say good pie (Hello good pie) I say hello good pie It may not be hip to parody Beatles songs, but this pie guy will do whatever it takes to get across one and only one point in this review … it’s all about the pie. Listen or I’m bringin’ out an update with Pie Pie Pie by ‘N Sync. Pie #1 at Random Order Coffeehouse & Bakery is the Tahitian Vanilla Sugar Salted Caramel Apple Pie with Local Organic Apples and Homemade Caramel. Both my wife and Travel & Leisure Magazine rate it as the best in America. Washington may be famous for its apples, but Portland should be famous for this Apple Pie. Want a creamy & dreamy pie? You can’t go wrong with Random Order’s Three Chocolate Cream Pie protected by Whipped Cream and Dark Chocolate Shavings. The velvet secret is the chocolate trio of sweet, unsweetened, and dark chocolates. Plan to not share. God gave you just one pie hole, folks … and Random Order Coffeehouse & Bakery is the Portland place to jam it full of heavenly homemade pies.

The Alien Baby. Do I need to say more? Ok, how about this, provolone, fresh spinach, pepperoncini and a fried egg and in my case bacon added to it. All of it on fresh baked ciabatta from the Pearl Bakery. Not a bad way to start your day, am I right? Yes most of you would pair that with a cup of joe, but I’m not a coffee drinker. The HORROR! A cup of hot chocolate however will do me just fine. Random Order has a pretty decent one at that. From what I could plainly see, the pies are what draw people here, but after what I had eaten, I couldn’t have enjoyed a slice, so I’ll have to make it back here soon and try me some pie. Cool atmosphere, and the place packed in shortly after I got my food, I got there at the right time. The people working were very friendly, even the woman wandering around with the huge ladder changing light bulbs and dusting. Everyday happens. I have to go back for pie. Enjoy.
