If you want to get pet supplies at a good price AND support a wonderful local company go to Portland Pet Supply! They have the BEST prices on flea meds like Advantage– to get a 4 pack for under $ 50 is unheard of at the big stores– and they really appreciate your patronage too! We don’t live as near to them as we used but will still go there — it is worth the few extra minutes drive. They always have sweet and adorable little doggie and cat treats– giving them out for you pets to try when you check out– this is a complete pet supply store with plenty of excellent options in foods, toys, and basic supplies– support these local folks!

After spending over a thousand dollars a year there on pet food, I tried to redeem my proofs of purchase for a manufacturer’s deal on a free bag of dog food. I was rudely told that they would not accept these. So I went down the street to Healthy Pets where they were kindly accepted and where I now shop. Note to the owner: If you act like a jerk you lose business.

Called the store to see if they carried Daves Restricted Diet canned cat food. Person who answered the phone «went to check» and said yes they had a bunch and told me that buying by the case was cheaper. Sent a Postmates courier to pick up a couple cases and they had a total of 7 cans. Wasted my time and money.

Lots of dog and cat items. Lots of food here to chose from. Clean store with friendly staff. I enjoyed the shop bird. I didn’t find any reptile supplies here.

Great selection of dog products, and about every brand of quality dog food available. It’s quickly become our pet store of choice just based on size, location and ease of parking, but I find the service can be hit or miss. The first visit the lady working there was a little too eager beaver wanting to help us out pick out our dog food, the second visit, the clerk at check-​out seemed a little out of it… but overall can’t really complain as they are generally helpful.

I always like stopping in here to get dog and cat food, everyone is always very helpful and friendly. All around nice little neighborhood pet supply store.

Huge selection of dog and cat food with a knowledgeable staff. Also a local family owned and operated business. I love going in and seeing the whole family working together, visiting Cosmo, the bird, and their dogs. They always give a handful of treats to take home for my dog too. Can’t beat Portland Pet Supply!!!

We’ve been buying cat food at Portland Pet Supply for a couple of years now. We have several cats so we usually buy three cases of canned food at a time. Whenever we’ve talked to the staff about the different cat foods, they’ve told us if the cats don’t like it, we can bring it back and exchange it for something else. The last time we bought the usual cat food, our cats don’t seem to want to eat it (they’ve grown tired of it I guess) so my husband called today and asked if we could exchange the 2 cases of food for something else. The answer was flat out «No.» They said we’d have to send the food ‘direct to the manufacturer’. Why? We bought it from Portland Pet Supply, why would we send it to the manufacturer? Portland Pet sells this food still, there’s nothing wrong with it, what would they stand to lose by exchanging the food? The 2 cases we have haven’t even been opened! I can’t continue spending so much money at a store that doesn’t stand behind their products. Now I have to find a new cat food AND a new pet store. So disappointing.

Been coming here for 3 years now and they have an amazing selection of both cat and dog foods. In many ways, their choices remind me of going to a candy store.
What is surprising is how competitive prices are for being in such a hip part of town. Everything here is cheaper than all other boutique pet stores that I’ve been.
Owner and son, as well as all of their non-​family workers do a good job of customer service. Always willing to help and full of knowledge.
I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the Hawthorne neighborhood.

Family owned and a HUGE variety of foods. Frequent vendor visits who delight in giving away free food samples. Tons of toys, beds, medical supplies. I wish they had 2 locations!

My all-​time favorite retail store in Portland (and that’s saying a lot!). For 21 years I’ve been buying my pet food at family-​owned Portland Pet Supply. They have faithfully kept our hand-​written yellow frequent buyers card up-​to-​date – recording our hundreds of bags of dog and cat food. Yesterday I went in and found out Solid Gold no longer provides a frequent buyers program, so next time I’m in the owners’ son (shamefully I don’t know his name, and I’ve watched him grow up) is going to help me find a new food – he said a lot of companies have a frequent buyers program. I love going in to pet Cosmo (I Bite), getting my free treats, looking at all the colorful dog toys, and talking to the owners. It’s a fantastic store, and now they’re open on SUNDAY! I wouldn’t buy my dog food anywhere else. And we buy a LOT of it.

These guys are friendly and have a ton of variety but they are expensive. I also noticed that they don’t have a tons of meaty jerky type treats for dogs. I’ve tried to give my dog those hippy dog treats and all he wants is pigs ears and snouts.
Also, if you’re going to work at a pet store that has pigs ear and snouts. You should be able to touch them with out getting grossed out. Just sayin’

Love this place. Love their selection. Love their service. I have tendonitis and couldn’t bring back a 25 lb sack of kibble to my car (parked around the corner at the end of the block) so an employee helped me out. Will continue getting my dog’s food from here from now on.

We stopped in for pet food once and we’ve been coming for our dog and cat food ever since.
They have a huge selection of dog and cat foods and kitty litters from average quality to top of the line. They also have a decent selection of dog treats and accessories.
What really sold me was how knowledgeable, friendly and helpful the owner was. When we first stopped in we went to the counter to inquire about switching our cat’s food from one high quality brand to another (because we where unhappy with the business practices of one) and she explained to us the benefits and draw backs of several of her top quality brands and sent us off with several large sample bags!!! She knows the products she sells and its reflective in her customer service.
Oh! Also, when my wife goes in to buy food with our baby they always carry it out to our car for her.

Very helpful staff. I purchase my dog food here regularly and, when they are out or when I switch to a new brand, they give out lots of samples to help me. The staff is not only friendly but knowledgeable.

Everytime I purchase a bag of food from Portland Pet Supply I’m greeted with smiles and hello’s. The folks there also give me free cookies (dog treats) along with my purchase. The prices are good, the store is clean and they have many choices. I’ve never had a bad experience there.

Great local and family owned pet store, with everything you need. I have been having some trouble feeding my pup, and the owner guided us in the right direction of what type of food to get. Pet goods can be so expensive, so I’d rather give my money to support the locals than petco or pet smart! The store always is clean and welcoming, this is where my k9 likes to shop!

Man dog was in serious need of food and I was stopping on my way home; 6:15. They closed at 6, but one of the employees was helping someone to their car and saw me getting back in to mine disappointed. He let me in, thank goodness!
Especially since the place that’s closer to my home makes you call ahead for his brand of food and are often sold out.
Aside from Magnus’ brand, they carry all kinds of different foods that I use to tempt him when he starts to get finicky; He prefers Tiki Dog or some canned Sweet Potato. So we are trying new things all the time. They have all of the kinds of treats that he likes, toys and care products that we like.
Each time, they offer me help to my car.

This store continues to be my go-​to store for all things dog. And now that we are fostering dogs for Multnomah County Animal Services, I am going-​to on average twice a week. Their food selection is stellar, and if you’re even considering changing foods, please come talk to these folks about what they would recommend. You will likely go home with lots of samples. There are lots of great foods out there, but they don’t all agree with your dog. Best to try samples before investing your hard-​earned paycheck on a 30# bag of food that wreaks havoc on your dog’s system.
In addition to their food selection, their toys and accessories are top of the line. We are currently in love with the Hear Doggy plush toys — ultrasonic squeak toys that the dogs can hear, but people cannot. Brilliant. Never again will Riley interrupt The Walking Dead with «Squeak. Squeak. Squeak-​squeak-​squeak.»
They carry Bark Boutique collars, a local Portland company, which I love. They have lots of front-​clip harness options, a varied selection of head halters, and an entire wall of leashes (many of which have matching collars).
