I’ve been a ice cream vendor since 2005 when I first entered the Business after Retirement and have always bought my ice cream here for this vending Business!” Upon first glance Portland Ice Cream looks like an unassuming Building on North Interstate in Portland!” on the street parking is limited; Inside sometimes the place is very busy and I must wait until they can get to me which can be up to 30 minutes for my order to be filled but that’s only on the busy days most times this is rare” on most days about 10 minutes my order is filled and ready to go? Mick Shingleford whom is the proprietor and owner and I might mention sounded to me when I first heard the name to have an Irish sound to it? That is until I met him and he began to speak which definitely is British: Mick carries a large variety of Novelty ice cream choices and has fair prices; the choices of novelty ice cream is most suitable for any taste? Mick is in all appearances a strict task-​master and a bit intimidating on first meeting him. He reminded me of what I had always thought a British Armed forces no nonsense Sargent-​Major would be like? the scene of Mick in a Red coat uniform from the War of Independence doting over his ice cream and supervising a gaggle of
privates suddenly flashed quickly my mind the first time? He is a nice man once you get to know him. I liked him right off from that first impression!” :His Business is his passion so I mean no critique in character only How I sometimes read things from my prospective as it’s a game I have played for many years that of placing people in Historical settings. All butter fat and no flavor. Came in with high expectations based on all the glowing reviews, and left so sad I couldn’t bring myself to finish my awful kid’s scoop (2.5 ounce) serving of ice cream. Sampled the peanut butter, the Persian, the Elvis, and the pumpkin cinnamon but none of them tasted like anything substantive or special. Give it a try if you enjoy gnawing on sticks of watered down frozen butter.

Great ice cream flavors, great prices, and none of the lines! Will be back again soon!

We came here on a whim and found out they made their own ice cream. It was yummy for a nice hot day. The mint chocolate chip and salted caramel was really good!

Me and my girlfriend gave this place two shots as well. The first time was okay, nothing special, seemed fine. Then today, we went again and the young man working behind the counter was very nice and helpful and cheerful. While he was scooping my ice cream, the owner stormed in with another employee who he was commanding and belittling; he did not acknowledge our presence at all, and we were the only ones there! It made us feel very uncomfortable. Then we paid nearly $ 15 for two double kids scoops, which seemed outrageous and did not equal the price listed on the menu. While we were outside eating our treats, we saw some commotion between the young man who served us and the somewhat abusive owner. While we couldn’t hear them, it was obviously a very tense situation which ended in the employee taking off his shirt, throwing it at the owner, and stomping out! We didn’t know what to do except just leave… Before this all occurred and we were just sitting there eating, we even commented on how the whole atmosphere of the ice creamery was very strange and disconcerting. We do NOT recommend patronizing this local business owner as he does not treat his employees or his customers with respect!

The Portland Ice Creamery brings some welcome variety to North Portland. They have shaved ice for just a dollar and ice cream starting at four dollars. Both come in a vast array of flavors for customers to choose from. The staff are friendly and the location has lots of seating. All this is located right near a light rail stop.
What initially caught my eye about the ice cream shop was the sign for their dollar shaved ice. It was a really hot day and to my surprise, the ice was mostly crushed. They also did not cut corners on the amount of apple syrup as is unfortunately typical. I knew after their polite service and water on the side, that I would soon return for ice cream.
When I went for ice cream, they had a fish and chips flavor. It did not taste like such a maritime dish, though maybe it was because it was a sundae. I got to customize the toppings while the taste was smooth and possibly original. Shakes are a little pricy, but everything else is cheap to average and the man at the counter was very friendly.
You can tell Portland Ice Creamery next time you want to scream for ice cream.

love. love…love the chocolate brownie raspberry ice cream!!! i cannot wait to get more of it and hope it will be a permanent flavor at this shop.

Walked from our house a few blocks away in a hot night, perfection!!! So many fun flavors to try, and great, friendly staff. I was boring and only had a single scoop in a cup, but it was great and we will definitely be back many more times!

Small servings, but high quality.

Fantastic ice cream. The vanilla is a must try. The pretentious tourists can have salt and straw. I’ll be coming back!
The only thing that nicks it down to a 4 star is the my to go pint was not packed at all.

Right, because it IS THE SAME PLACE, and I didn’t like it before either. «Mick» still owns it, is still rude to employees and does not acknowledge customers. Every employee says the ice cream is made right there. Ok, homemade is a good idea. But homemade doesn’t necessarily say anything about quality.
The ‘one’ good review, from «Michael S» is from the OWNER, Michael Shillingford and is why it reads like an advertisement. Real customers are not too happy with this place.
Personally, I find it average and overpriced. I’ve had 6 kinds, 2 in cones, sundaes, 2 different pints and 1 float. The float was good, but way too small. The scoops are small. It’s another nice idea and nobody looses but the customers since it’s the same place in sheep’s clothing.

I dislike starting a review like this, but their ice cream is not up to snuff. Even the board hanging behind the counter showing the «bf» (meaning butterfat) content of each type of ice cream did not convince me when tasting it. It tasted watery… And how is that possible when you are in an ice cream parlor?!
I only tried the coffee and chocolate ones, but that was enough for me to say, no I don’t want to spend my hard earned cash here. At least Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy really tasts like chocolate ice cream in comparison…

This place is better than the gross corner shop that was there before it, and I’m glad that that’s out of my neighborhood now, but I’m am not impressed by this place. And I’ve already given it two shots so far because I live across the street. The owner came in at one point and I was expecting him to be friendly because it’s a new business and all, but he didn’t even acknowledge me and he was really rude to his employee right in front of me. He was very belittling to the poor guy. I’ve had a problem with how he treated his employees and how the Tardis room is ran too (same owner). Also, I ordered the Sundae both times and the price they charged me was more expensive than the price on the board and I didn’t order anything different. I even asked why it was more and cashier was just as confused me. Then my friend got the same thing and was they didn’t adjust the price still. Plus tip, it came out to $ 7.50. That is way more expensive than the big ice cream places in town… And the ice cream is nothing special. We both wished we had got a pint of Ben and Jerry’s instead. I gave it two chances and I will not be supporting this place anymore.
