It’s quite amazing how far we’ve come as a species in order to have a library just like this. Although we have so many online resources at our attention that someone could question the need for these buildings, Portland Community College still manages to constantly find new bells and whistles for learning. While the typical public library an archaic institution, the tuition gets you part of a club. Within this library system, they have tutoring, computers with any kind of conceivable software, copiers, equipment rentals, living room seating, study space and a huge website. But we aren’t done yet, the website gives you freedom to otherwise expensive databases for free. The building itself is architecturally modern. It consists of two massive, worthwhile floors. On the first floor, you have tutoring, of which they also offer online. They provide computers, including about a dozen Macs and $ 10 of printing per term. They have some books, movies and music. People are also quiet here, unlike at Southeast where people yell back at their high school bros. On the second floor, you’ve got quiet study. There are lots of quiet rooms and group friendly study rooms. There’s even family rooms. I like it because what’s not to like about overseeing Evergreen trees. It’s a wonderful place that can really kick-start all kinds of intellectuals and intellectualisms. They have a whole backbone of connections to much of the information of the world. Online, they support their students using chats and much else. Sometimes, you might need to seek out help a little earlier for a project. But this library will accommodate your laziness from time to time. Be sure to look for nooks and crannies while studying. If you need to go between campuses, the PCC Shuttle is your friend. The Sylvania Library is a wonderful part of the Portland Community College experience.

My Son and I were here at Portland Community College for a memorial service at the Sylvania Performing Arts Center next door. We arrived early and decided to hang out in the Library. The Sylvania Library is a handsome and modern 2-story structure, with the right combination of technology, private meeting and study space, and public areas. My favourite was the comfortable stuffed chairs in the front area of the ground floor. There was lots of light and space, along with an interesting«Pescado» art piece. This is a great place to be quiet.

This is a great library. The natural lighting makes the library more welcoming and less intimidating. There is a lot of computer terminals but also just study desks with outlets for laptop users. The library is also very clean inside with light wood everywhere contributing to the bright atmosphere. Unlike some libraries, PCCSL has an open media collection for browsing. Very nice. Soft chairs, quiet study areas, and group study rooms all near large windows are perfect for anyone who just wants to study in a comfortable environment.
