I couldn’t make up my mind one lunchtime at Mississippi Marketplace. I thought about a meatballwich from Garden State but nah, not in the mood. I was close to dropping 9 small on a plate from Nuevo Mexico but couldn’t justify it for lunch. I’d never heard of this Pink Pig but the menu looked really interesting. I got a dumpling plate for $ 6. It had 4 nice shu mai-style pork dumplings, a mound of garlic ginger rice and a vinegary papaya salad. I was impressed on all fronts. The dumplings tasted great with just a hint of sweet. The meat is a little fatty but it’s the melt in your mouth, wraps your tongue in a cocoon of flavor kind of fat. Super tasty. The rice was excellent… perfectly done, separate grains with a light ginger flavor that both pleases and cleanses the palate. The salad was perhaps the most eye-opening taste of all. It’s really tangy and crunchy. It really served to give the meal a flavorful balance. It was filling and delicious. I think it’ll get the majority of my biz for the next little while, at the very least. Really interesting, clean flavors all around.
