Edgar Allen Poe would be pleased since Pile could happen to be a good graphic for some of his works. It involves a cage at the bottom, some pillows on top of that, and then a bird clawing on to the very top. It has a cinematic quality to it, so it is rather fine that there is not adjacent seating. The materials could be nicer, but they made exceptional use of them. Take a look at Pile, a Downtown Portland sculpture.

When I first saw this sculpture I expected the name to reflect Edgar Allan Poe’s «The Raven» It actually is symbolic of Portland’s past. The list of symbolism turned out to be boring but I decided I like the sculpture anyway. I will just pretend it is for the story instead.
