I’ve been here about 5 times and my manicure experience always goes like this: 1. Quick greeting and seating 2. Offered tea or water 3. A warm neck wrap 4. Gloves to protect against UV rays from the dryer 5. A little hand massage at the end BB usually does my shellac manicures and I am always very happy. She is fun, talkative, and talented. All the female employees are very friendly and sweet.

I had a horrible experience. I told the lady I wanted my nails squared many times but she cut and filed them oval shaped. She also cut me when she filed my nails.

Kim, the woman who did my nails on a walk in appointment, was patient with my many requests, meticulous, and incredibly talented. My nails look the best they ever have and I’ll go out of my way to go again!

I have never experienced better service before. Everyone is incredibly friendly and do an amazing job. I have even left, messed up a nail and they are happy to fix it.

These folks are fantastic. Extremely flexible, friendly, and do the best gels I’ve ever gotten. The environment is so comfortable in addition to being treated well by the staff. We’ve made it a regular girls night out stop!

I went in recently for a manicure and had a lady named Von, I believe. The shop supposedly opened at 10, but they arrived at about 10:10. It took her an hour and 15 minutes for a regular manicure! The nails are not smooth, the polish was so thick in places that I thought they would NEVER dry! One day later as I look at my nails, 5 of the ends are already chipped. I asked her not to cut my cuticles too short, but she did. Each time I would say that’s too short, but she kept cutting. The place is under new ownership for almost two years, so when looking at the reviews, be sure to look at the date. If you can tolerate mediocrity, this is the place for you! It’s convenient, but they have manicurists without great skills. Maybe the other ones are good, but this was way too long and not worth the time.

I had a horrible experience with my pedicure yesterday. The woman cut my toenails so short. Right to the skin and three were left with cuts. She kept hurting me and wouldn’t even look up when I said ow. I retracted my entire foot three times. I don’t know why I didn’t just leave but I should have. I couldn’t tell how short they were from my angle until it was over. This morning I woke up to two throbbing toes and two big nails so short I don’t think I can take my daily run because they hurt so bad. The edges aren’t even sanded. All jagged. I literally write this with pain. I am so disappointed.

I just had my second visit at Onyx yesterday. The first time was years ago and it was a wonderful experience. I just haven’t returned because I have a toddler and nail care is something that only happens in my world when there are special occasions. So, yesterday, I was back in preparation for a trip to Hawaii. And it was another fabulous experience. I did make an appointment, even though walk-ins are fine, and was seated right at my appointment time. Mai took wonderful care of me. Again, I do not care for my nails, hands and feet like I should, so she had her work cut out for her. She was meticulous and took great care in cleaning up both my hands and feet and polishing my nails. I brought in my own polish for my toes and she was so excited to show me they had the exact same color in shellac to use in my fingernails. She also added a fake tip to one of my thumbnails that I had damaged in a dish washing fiasco — without me asking her to do it and she didn’t charge me extra. This thoughtful move earned her an additional 5% on her tip. So for $ 60 total(mani, pedi and tip) I received an amazing experience. I would recommend Onyx(and Mai in particular) to anyone looking for a relaxing mani/pedi experience with fantastic results.

This is my new fav nail salon. They do an excellent job on both manicures & pedicures; going above and beyond expectations. The ladies are very thorough with callus removal, cleanup up underneath the nail bed and removing cuticles. They make you feel relaxed and never rush you out in order to get a new client quickly in. I’ve never needed a reservation, just waked in and had a short wait in a massage chair whilst they were preparing for me. All of the ladies are super friendly and helpful with helping me put my shoes and jacket on whilst my nails were drying. Even if I messed them up, it wasn’t a problem… they quickly repainted them with a smile. Overall, it’s a lovely, clean salon and I’m happy to come back!

The best $ 30-price-range pedicure I’ve had in Portland yet. Clean, friendly, exceptionally thorough and attentive. And the warm neck pillow was wonderful. One tip: decline the offer for white«wine».

Not sure why there are some poor reviews on here, but I think this place is awesome! The pedicure is amazing, they really take their time and do a great job cleaning up. Bb does great natural looking acrylic which is hard to come by, and she is great at apply gel polish. It’s also cheaper than most places in the area. I recommend this place to anyone!

Don’t waste your time. They are unprofessional and don’t take walk-ins even though signage says it’s welcome…

Pros: quick application, relatively decent nail shape, clean work space. Cons: I got cut twice, my nails were very, very thin which looked nice for about two days before the corners started busting, the nail tech was not very personable so it was an awkward 45 minutes, he ran late 15 so I had to wait even though I had an appt.(I was almost late for work) The nail tech, Kevin, was talking on the phone the whole time and didn’t even care to make conversation. Basically for 10 dollars less I could go somewhere else and get better service. This was no «spa» experience. The techs apathetic«I don’t want to be here» attitude said it all. I wouldn’t reccomend this fast food«nail spa» to anyone. Nail studio, in Lloyd Center, may not always be the quickest; the reason why I decided to try someplace new, but they do offer excellent friendly service at a decent price.

After being completely disappointed with Pearl Nails customer service, I did a walk-in at Onyx… what a cute place. Great customer service, no interruptions during my Mani/Pedi, and fantastic conversation with Seon for the hour I was there! Will have no problem going back!

Not overly priced, and the ambiance is clean. However, my service wasn’t anything exceptional and my toes chipped upon leaving, and my fingernails were soon to follow. I understand taking walk-ins, but kicking me out of the chair isn’t quite fair. As soon as I grabbed my purse to get out of the chair so another customer could use it, I smudged my index finger. If my nails are wet enough to smudge, I probably shouldn’t be getting out of the chair. There were three of us, pre-wedding manis and pedis, but we had to ask to be seated next to each other and when we tried to move into the spa pedicure chairs, they told us it was too late. Price is good. Place is clean. Just a few logistics to work out.

I was in the area and found this great shop for a manicure. I walked in and asked for a mani and was immediately helped. That was a week ago and the polish and cuticles are still intact… not a chip to be seen. Pretty amazing since the polish used was almost a black color.

I once received a gift certificate to Onyx. The actual card was small and nondescript, with only the name«Onyx,» an address, and a dollar amount. So I get this gift… and I have no IDEA what the gift was for. Something called«Onyx» could be so many things! Was it a jewelry store or perhaps a cute little boutique? Was it a male strip club? Or a restaurant? Or a male strip club?(Just askin’…) Far to embarrassed to simply ask the giver«hey — what the heck IS Onyx?» I just decided to go for it — and one afternoon I timidly showed up at a small store front in an industrial section of the Pearl… dun dun dunnnnnnn… I was immediately transported to Zen-topia. Onyx is not a spa as I initially thought from the décor, but actually a nail salon. They managed to move away from that sterile salon-feel, and create an environment of comfort and relaxation. They call themselves a «nail spa,» which I found quite fitting. 2 hours later, my fingers and toes looked like they had been visited by the pretty pretty princess brigade. The $ 70 gift card covered both the spa mani and pedi, as well as a 20% tip. Not prices I was jumping up and down over, but again… Gift card. (Turns out, they picked the name Onyx because of the ancient Greek word Onux, meaning finger nail. Why they didn’t just call it Onux, the world will never know.)
