Specialties
Live music lives in our intimate Portland, Maine venue. In addition to a wide, genre defying list of music styles, we offer a variety of performance art, film, dance and fundraising events. Take a look at the calendar. You never know what you are going to stumble on here at OLS!
History
Established in 2007.
Formerly known as The Center For Cultural Exchange, One Longfellow Square received a new name in 2010 when we began operating as a non-profit music and arts venue. Along with the new name, the space took on a new focus of providing arts education opportunities for the area’s youth and an affordable space for community organizations in Greater Portland Area to host their unique individual functions. Through OLS’ entire history, we have been known as the place for performing artists and community organizations to find a home here in Portland. In 2014 we began a series called «OLS Presents Live & Local» to provide local musicians a home to perform their original works to a captive audience. In 2015, after the closing of the area’s most popular comedy club, OLS began to play host to a variety of comedic acts to provide comedians from near and far a place to perform and folks in Portland a place to laugh.
Meet the Manager
Liz P.
Manager
Liz is neither the owner nor manager of One Longfellow Square because One Longfellow Square has no management. We are a group run, non-profit organization who makes decisions by popular vote, with the help of our staff, board of directors and community of members. Liz is however a talented writer, dancer and music promoter with over 23 years of performance under her belt, 24 years of writing experience (yes she wrote her first word when she was just three years old, complete with backwards «Z» and all) and nine years of performing arts production and promotions expertise to share. She started at OLS in 2013 at just 10 hours per week and now practically lives in the place. The reason for this, in her own words is «Because this place is really special. When you walk in the door it has a magic quality about it. The talent that comes through here is phenomenal, the audience members are inviting and engaged. It’s the best place in Portland for live music and it needs to be shared!»
