I wanted to become a normal patron of Ocho. It’s probably not to be even though it’s really close to where I work. I walked by three or four times and I really liked it’s vibe. If you like Spanish food who doesn’t like a hole in the wall restaurant. They only have a few things in their menu so I assumed they really would be on top of their flavors. Not true. I just tried their braised beef burrito which is one of a total of four options and none of the flavors made sense to me. If a Burrito is stuffed everything that’s in it needs to be well chopped and processed and the flavors either need to be traditional or if they’re fusion, very worthwhile. Nope! Didn’t enjoy it… I’ll try going one more time to try the carnitas one. If somehow it’s way better I will delete this review…

Tiny little burrito place, no fuss, no seating, just a take out counter. The shop has a cool vibe, definitely like being able to see right into what they’re doing in the kitchen. That being said, the menu is also very small, which was a bummer. I got the classic burrito with chicken & guac. Simple but done well! Everything was tasty & the perfect size. I’m a big fan of Otto & their variety of pizza styles so hopefully Ocho will expand more soon too!

I was impressed by the burritos, although frankly I think they’re overpriced. On the other hand, the burritos are quite large and the roast veggie classic was packed with delicious veggies. I would give them five stars on flavor and style alone but still, a burrito is a burrito and should not be over ten dollars.

Had a great burrito from here earlier today. Definitely not the typical fare, but it hit the spot. Will be back again for a more full-fledged review.

I was on the fence about giving Ocho 2 or 3 stars — in any case I really hope they improve over time. I’d love to have a good burrito joint just a couple of blocks from work. My friend and I arrived at Ocho at about 7pm. There was only one other person in line so we ordered quickly and got the same thing — Moroccan chicken with quinoa, goat cheese, some sort of veggie slaw with brussels sprouts, and tzatziki. Sounds delicious, right? So you can imagine how disappointed we were that it took almost 15 minutes to get our burritos and that they were cold when we finally did get them. Once reheated, they were very good but the whole experience — the lack of any other side dishes, or tortilla chips, the very small choice of beverages(and no beer) plus the tiny space for customers made the whole experience a let-down for me.

I got a classic and it was very dry and not that great. All the cheese or crema or whatever it is was all at the bottom and the whole thing just didnt have enough flavor. Also, don’t nickel and dime me for guac. You have zillions of very successful restaurants. Points for quick in and out take out.

Portland really needs a good burrito joint, and I think Ocho has potential. Creative menu — 5 burritos, including an «original», which I appreciated since I really wanted just a burrito. The other 4 non-traditional choices looked delicious too and they even had a vegan option. The accommodated my modifications well(no crema, add guac) and the service was friendly. There were a few downfalls, which I hope will be worked out with time. First, my cousin and I both ordered the exact same thing, yet my burrito had no pico de gallo while hers had lots. Second, both burritos were cold. No big deal as we just microwaved them(5 minutes between Ocho and home), but when you pay $ 13.25 for a burrito and a can of seltzer, I think it should at least be lukewarm. All in all I thought the service, menu, and flavors were great. I’ll definitely be back in a couple months after they work out the kinks.

Pretty good burritos for a pizza company! Like the rest of us I wasn’t sure, but I had to try it. Heard about the lines, and the no fuss seating, which intrigued me all the more. I’ve eaten here repeatedly now, and will definitely come back for more. My guilty pleasure is the Braised Beef Brisket, sweet potato, smoked cheddar, kale, horseradish cream. A little understated in flavor, but delicious nonetheless. I also had some of the special one day(which rotates daily) that had coconut rice and that was also damn good. There are bottled drinks in a refrigerator that paired well with the burrito. It’s true, you don’t get a Chipotle sized portion. This is a blessing and a curse for some, depending on your hunger level. I felt sufficiently satiated after wolfing the whole thing down, however my appetite was craving more. Maybe that’s a good thing. As others have pointed out, you don’t want to go into food coma immediately after consuming this. The spread of ingredients inside was just right too. Equal mix of meat, and condiments. It is very spartan inside. Expect to feel crowded when multiple people are waiting for their orders, and then expect to exit to find a suitable place to scarf your meal down. Prices are reasonable. The guys behind the counter are laid back. I wouldn’t bring a whole busload of people here on account of the long wait you might endure. I’ve always eaten when there wasn’t much of a line and it was a good 5 minutes or less. The location is West End, Congress St. Somewhat busy, no parking except any free space on the street.

I like that you can just walk in and out with a burrito in your hand within 5 minutes. Easy dinner or lunch to-go. Be aware that this is the only option as there is no seating. That being said the classic burrito was just«eh.» I tasted rice, beans, not-that-great guacamole, and very mild salsa. It wasn’t very cheesey at all and the crema was almost nowhere to be found. The tortilla though was hearty and chewy… Perfect. This burrito could definitely be amped up with some cilantro, more cheese and sour cream… And hot sauce. It just wasn’t very flavorful or satisfying. Not to mention for $ 19 for 2 of them, on the pricy side.

Oh Yum. Can’t wait to go back! I had the curried cauliflower which is all wrapped up with quinoa, kale, goat cheese, shredded beets and raddishes, and tzatziki. It was creamy, and a little spicy and full of bold, awesome flavors. I felt like the first half of the burrito I kept discovering new flavor bursts with each bite. So. Good. I do hope they expand the menu a little. They have 4 standard burrito options and one rotating special. The special the day I went was a Siracha pork with coconut rice and mango salsa, which my other half ordered and loved. I tried a taste of the mango salsa and it was fresh & flavorful! I would love to see another sexy vegetarian option, perhaps a protein like tempeh or seitan?!(I mean, perhaps they should hire me to be their go-to vegetarian taste tester?) I think it’s a good location, but I don’t love that there is no indoor seating. We sat outside at one of the two tables on the sidewalk, which was lovely on a summer day. I just can’t picture eating here during winter — I am not a huge fan of take-out burritos(though I am willing to try it, once the white stuff falls from the sky again). The staff were friendly, helpful and even let my wife taste the pork before she ordered(she is picky when it comes to meat). I will certainly return, and look forward to longer open hours!

When I heard the business and culinary masterminds behind OTTO were opening a burrito restaurant, I was more than a little skeptical. I hold burritos and tacos to a much holier standard than pizza, so the idea that they would offer the kind of off-the-wall but brilliant spins that they’d already shown us with their pies worried me. It turns out, burritos can be upgraded. I wanted to dispel any preconceptions I might have had by ordered the beef and sweet potato hash burrito that was on special, and it was magnificent. It was a perfect blend of family meal and classic, chewy, soft tortilla that I’ve come to love. My girlfriend ordered the Moroccan chicken, and it was so juicy and flavorful that she insisted we learn how to make it at home. The prices are a bit steep, but only relative to serving size. In retrospect, if I’m willing to pay $ 9 for a burrito I can’t finish(read: every other burrito joint), I can imagine I’ll be more than willing to pay the same for a fantastic spin on my favorite meal in the future. Keep it up!

Finally a scrumptious burrito joint in Portland! It seems like their menu will be rotating, but on the day I ate here, they offered a «classic» burrito that was probably as close to a California mission burrito that you can get around here. The carnitas were sooo flavorful and tender and the Spanish rice was perfectly spiced. I also tried the Moroccan chicken burrito; the chicken was moist and tasty, the quinoa a welcome change, and the cucumber raita so cool and refreshing. What I loved the most was the size wasn’t too overly gigantic to the point that you feel sloth-like after eating. It was the perfect size! Not the cheapest burrito place but worth the money. It is definitely just a take-out counter but there were two small tables on the sidewalk outside to eat on. I’ll be back soon!

Otto’s has done it again. Great concept. Definitely not Mexican food but the flavours are spot on. Def worth the try

This a bit of a preemptive 5-star vote, since I’ve only had one burrito, but I will surely be back to acquire an adequate sample size, and I think that says it all. The burrito I had,(coconut curry pork), wasn’t even a traditional burrito that could be accurately compared against the local competition either, but I think that’s going to be a strong selling point for Ocho. Much like the Ottos recipe of tossing seemingly random, but in fact a carefully-considered, mish-mash of ingredients onto a pizza, Ocho will likely succeed with their dare to be different burrito strategy. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu and seeing what kind of rotating specials pop up.
