I am so sad this place is closed. I moved out of state and this is bad news.

Is Nostro Caffe closed? I can no longer find the website and the last time I was down in the Pearl their was a pink sign on the door and the place was closed but I did not get out of my car to read what had happened. Does anyone know?

Amazing! I knew this«Italian Café» would be good when I walked in and the customers were speaking Italian to the workers/owners/bartenders. This place is so good, we were headed somewhere else but we were short on time so as we passed we decided just to eat here. WoW! We had the French toast and it IS the BEST French toast I have ever had. Slight orange flavor and chocolate mmmm. Best. We also had a pasta dish that was good, but the French toast was so good I forget what we had.(: go eat!

We came for coffee, and also had a great meal. The team at Nostro is very friendly– the barrista was also our waiter today, and she took the time to talk with us and ask how our food was. The food orders here are pretty open to customization. I said I’d like something with meat and vegetables, and we worked out an order of venison chops and a salad with fennel and orange. The food was very delicious. The venison was tender and succulent in a red wine sauce with raisins and walnuts. The salad was perfectly crisp and fresh. I’ll be happy to return.

Oh my gosh… this place is fantastic! Best cappuccino I’ve had outside of Italy. Owner and cook ate both from Florence. Also very excited when when saw the dinner menu. Everything is authentic and reasonably priced. We have been spent a ton of time in Italy and have been rather disappointed by the other places we have tried so far(Giorgio’s and Piazza Italia) Try Nostro Caffe, you’ll love it!

I joined Unilocal just to review this place, that should tell you something right there. The Italian food was fantastic. We had the bruschetta and caprese salads as starts. Both were wonderful, the bruschetta was out of sight. And the mozzarella with the caprese was creamy and divine. We had the baked gnocci and carbonara for the main course, they were both delicious. All of that was a great price. I’m from out of town, but this will be one of the regular places I visit when I’m here. It was wonderful!

Came downtown with the hopes of eating at Purest Café, but found it abandoned save for a pair of disinterested employees and a group of Scientologists outside the door. As even the call of crepes was not strong enough to overcome my aversion, I high tailed it to the next most recommended café in the area. Let me just say I am glad I did. Footie matches on the television, light jazz encouraging an almost collegiate atmosphere, tasteful décor, a nice collection of books to peruse, free wifi, ample outlets(a vital consideration in our laptop toting, smartphone dependent era), friendly staff, and a very enticing menu. This morning I most craved a clean café experience, and I was not disappointed. My doppio machiatto was heaven. High quality beans(I heard no less than three people request them after finishing their drinks), expert work at the press, and a respect for what the drink should be(very, VERY different than the over-glorified latte Starbucks has taught us to expect). It was paired with a Pellegrino, which he was nice enough to offer an ice-filled glass and lime for, and one of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve had since the Bagel Bakery down in Eugene went under a twelve years ago. As it stands, I’m debating sticking around long enough to get hungry for lunch. I can definitely afford it, my whole breakfast only came out to 6.20.

Came by here based on the Unilocalfest, despite the name. I won’t ding it a star for a name like«Mr. Jolly’s», even though it reminds me of a scary clown X-File that gave me the heebeejeebees. This is a cool little spot. I would never have noticed it on its own. When you walk in, the feel is chic but not stark, modern but not pretentious. I liked it instantly. In order to really do a barometer check on the coffee quality, I ordered a macchiatto, which was delivered with a beautiful crema around the edge of the frothed milk. Win. You can sit at the bar, which doubles as a real bar at night, or you can take a table. The barista was friendly but not intrusive. Just all in all a good place to meet. I’ll come back to see what’s on the food menu and have a cocktail. I just really enjoyed the vibe.

I randomly stopped here when I had some time to kill between point A and point B and when I walked in, I immediately felt at home. This is a real Osteria, and you’ll easily find yourself outnumbered by Italian ex-pats most of the time. There’s no pretension to provide the typical American«customer service» which suits me just fine. I’d rather spend my time and dollars at a place where the folks that are making my food or pouring my coffee are able to act like my peers and be the interesting people they really are. They serve LaVazza coffee and classic Italian dishes — mostly focused on seafood. There are also plenty of places to plug in your phone or lap top so you can stay for awhile.

I know it looks like I only give 5 stars, but only to those that I am young and in love with. Mr. Jolly’s. One word. Davidae! The Italian chef is absolutely the face of the establishment, and people literally stalk him and his kitchen. The atmosphere is funky, fun, antique-ridden, and full – and I am not kidding – full of Europeans. It’s awesome. And they make a REAL macchiato, not that fake crap you get at Starbucks in a 12 oz. paper cup. We’re talking about a delicious layered shot in a clear glass. You won’t be disappointed. Then there’s the food… Gnocchi? TODIEFOR. And honestly, there are constantly specials, changing with the mood of Davidae. So you should just walk in, ask for him(pronounced da-vi-day) to make you something delicious and leave it to the fates. You won’t be disappointed. Ciao!

Twice I’ve been to Portland in the last 12 months, and twice I’ve gone to Mr. Jolly’s. It’s hard to call a coffee shop a «must visit» place because coffee is coffee, and if you’re a true addict then you understand that coffee snobbery is best left to those that don’t get a raging headache, anomic aphasia, and temporarily blindness without at least one shot of delicious caffeine. But this place is all that and a bag of superfluously polysyllabic chips. The first time I was here an excitable and polite presumably Italian gentleman encouraged my friends and I to sit at a table and sip our Marucchino with Nutella, which was amazing and spectacular, both of which are synonyms. That makes it also remarkable and magnificent. Shift F7. He also let us pay at the end like a bar tab. This most recent time some guy was listening to west coast rap and talking to his buddy about his buddy’s friend’s prison sentence. He was also friendly and let us rain on his floor after we got caught for over 20 minutes in a downpour. The layout is great, with comfortable seats and a nice décor that doesn’t really match a place called«Mr. Jolly’s» but whatever. They serve food that I didn’t eat and wine that I didn’t drink, but like the cool kids say, I’m sure all of those things are equally as tubular. This place is rad man. Rad.

I loves my coffee, I loves my donuts, I loves wandering in the Pearl. I loves my Mr. Jolly’s. Go there. Came upon this by accident while walking in the Pearl and like the other reviewers this doesn’t really fit into a coffee or wine bar or restaurant or lounge or whatever. Outstanding service, friendly, clean, comfortable and good food. Just go there. You won’t be disappointed.

A hidden gem in the Pearl. I am reluctant to tell anyone about this corner Italian restaurant because it is such a calm and peaceful place, perfectly located and has great deals on very very good food! This is the perfect place to go before a night at PCS theater. Close to the Gerding, with happy hour deals and zero bullshit. For $ 5 you can get any of the pasta dishes for a happy hour portion; plus many other good buys for salads and/or apps. A generous HH wine pour. I had the ravioli al forno– fresh pasta stuffed w/spinach and served in a hot casserole. The crème brûlée was flaming! and delish. Easy, friendly service. The TVs didn’t really bother me because the sound was turned off.

Shhh! Is this place a secret??? Italian style coffee and sandwich bar by day and simple and excellent Italian café/bistro by night? It’s only been open for six months or so maybe that’s why it’s not crowded. Twice, the S.U. and I have slipped in here for a light sup before a show at the Gerding Theater(Armory). Great happy hour dishes. Bruschetta, meatball sliders, ravioli, pasta putanesca, salad and $ 5 glasses of wine. This place is perfect for an early meal. The décor is modern and quiet. The service was attentive. The waiter/bar tender/barista remembered what we had months ago. After reading the other reviews I’ll be back to try their paninis. Try it! You’ll like it!

My new favorite spot! I had a panini that was top notch and I also had the best frittata of my life here. Most frittata’s are big bluky messes… this one was pounded thin like a fat man banging an anorexic broad missionary style. It looked like a properly pounded veal or chicken dish in Italy… it also had the perfect amount of oil and spinich in it. All the food here is great and inexpensive. If you want t great cup of coffee and a good meal then come to this place. I could come here every day. Plus the people here are real Iitalians. Actually from Italy. That automatically means they are not only better cooks but also gentically superior to all of you Portland beard and bike d-bags. Salute!

I’m super picky when it comes to coffee. Really — I live in Portland and actively dislike most of the coffee shops around. I haven’t had a bad mocha here yet. Their prices are great, their tiramisu is crazy cheap and quite good, the staff is solicitous and helpful, and I dig the ambience. It looks like it should be soulless, but it doesn’t feel that way. Did I mention that I actually get the coffee I want here? :D

This little coffee shop is one of the more unique ones in Portland. I love the free WiFi and first time guests get FREEBAGOFHOMEMADEDONUTS! Can it really get any better then that? The food is amazing and made by a true Italian man that prides himself in his italian cuisine. Go enjoy a nice coffee in the morning, pasta lunch in the afternoon and a great bar selection at night! This new place covers it all! :) So glad to see such a classy place in this location!

I just happened by this place on a stroll around the Pearl District. I was sufficiently intrigued by the sign and what I could see through the windows to venture inside. The interior is amazing… very 1920s. There are vintage games, and bookshelves filled with many leather-bound books. The staff is incredibly nice and happy to answer questions. They are very proud of their new coffee bar, with good reason. This has become my new one and only, as far as coffee shops go. They also have an intriguing food menu that includes spaghetti, paninis and scrambled eggs. I didn’t try any of the food, but someon next to me ordered a panini that looked-and smelled-mouthwatering. Also, they were giving out doughnuts as samples. They make them on site, and are giving them out as free samples to encourage repeat business. They are like tiny bites of heaven. Very delicious. Don’t miss out on a trip to this place. It is super cool.

I walked by Mr. Jolly’s on my way to an interview, I had twenty minutes to spare and I needed some good coffee. I was lured into ordering my old standby(an Americano with no room) after the barista explained to me that she makes herself one about ten times a day. It tasted like it. She didn’t act like it(some people hold their caffeine better than others). My friend ordered the Marachino: a decadent coffee drink served in a ‘tini glass with Nutella on the rim. The 1920’s vibe is not understated at this establishment; I only heard Benny Goodman the entire time I was there. The walls feature tall bookshelves, antiques, and old movie posters. I felt jolly and it wasn’t just the excellently crafted Americano. Oh yeah, I got the job.
