Northwest Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital

We have been happy clients for 5 years. Now that my pets are geriatric patients I am seeing a lot more of the clinic than in the past. I am pleased to report that the care we are receiving is outstanding. The front desk staff are pleasant and helpful, the techs do a great job, and Dr. Becky Prull is wonderful.
Dr. Prull is kind, personable, practical, holistic and cost conscious. I couldn’t have a better partner in this phase of my pets’ journey.
One of my friends moved to deep SE Portland, but she still brings her pets up to the NW to continue their care with Dr. Prull and the NE Neighborhood Vet Hospital.

Wonderful vet. Clean with very quick and kind service. The vet with the red hair (can’t recall atm) was so warm and sweet with our pup Gus. Definitely go here if you can.

Dr. Gowing is always great with my cat Bert. He is good at diagnosing the issues and with the proper solution. It is clean and the customer service is great. I have also recommend my friends and they have all been equally happy.

I highly recommend NW Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital. We have been bringing our dogs to them for the better part of 7 years and can’t say enough good things. We recently had to put our dog Wednesday to sleep, which was heartbreaking but necessary. Dr. Maun and the staff at NWNV were so comforting. The Vets and their team at NWNVH are compassionate realistic and kind, all of which are qualities that I really appreciate when a tough decision has to be made. I could not ask for better care for my dogs.

My kitty Tilly has had a watery, squinty eye on and off for the 10 months I have had her. After multiple appointments at 2 prior veterinary clinics (and many misdiagnoses and dollars later), Dr. Maun at NNVH was finally able to put my mind at ease. Instead of immediately prescribing a different (4^th) eye drop for Tilly, she instead wanted to rule out other possibilities. She thought to perform an eye stain to rule out a clogged tear duct as opposed to diagnosing her with an eye infection like our prior vets had. After putting a simple neon eye drop in Tilly’s eye and waiting a few minutes, Dr. Maun confirmed that she has a clogged tear duct, and that is why her eye waters on occasion.
The front desk staff is a delight to speak with, and you can tell they are just as concerned with your pet as the veterinarians are. I called a couple weeks after my appointment with a question about Tilly sneezing, and left a message with the front desk. They got back with me within an hour reassuring me Tilly was okay, and told me the exact symptoms I should look out for before worrying again.
I am ecstatic to have such a knowledgable, honest, supportive staff who I can completely trust with my fur baby, and would recommend to anybody who wants their pet treated with the utmost love and care!

NW Neighborhood Vet is the best. They care for you pets as if they were they’re own and they take the time to listen to you and your concerns or funny stories about your pet (s). We have been seeing them with our pets for 10 years and always will. Thank you Dr. Schuler, Mary and the fabulous front desk ladies.

Highly recommend, from the first phone call to set up with a new vet, we just moved from FL, to meeting the office, vet’s assistant, vet Dr. Maun, everything was so warm and welcoming and my very cranky 9 y/​o kitty was so happy and calm with everyone. They truly care from beginning to end and even called me back days later to let me know a product I was looking for was in, but not in a pushy sales way. Love them for taking care of my baby, as did she.

We decided to bring our Boston Terrier puppy here after all the fab Unilocal reviews — worth it! Dr. Maun is amazing and answered all of our questions with ease. We even had a squirmy toddler with us and were still able to have a productive conversation.
The front desk was also amazing. While our puppy was getting shots, they helped entertain our son by playing peak-​a-​boo.
The office itself was very clean and spacious. We look forward to bringing our newest family member here for years.

On the road, far from home, with a sick dog. They took me within one day and I got an super vet, an intelligent, compassionate doctor who knew his stuff. They did blood work and he called me that evening with the results and also volunteered the offer to call him with any advice I might need on my travels. It was a real relief to find this place and would definitely use them if I lived in Portland.

I love this place! I came from another Vet clinic that I absolutely loved, so I was a bit skeptical of any new place I took my little dog/​lover. I took my dog in for an annual check up, a shot, and to get her a new license. The staff was so excited to see my dog, gave her so much love and treats, and made sure that I was able to get every question I had answered. The vet and the technicians were very kind and thorough with my dog and also gave me options for shots and didn’t just tell me I needed everything so they could make a quick buck. The prices for everything are pretty standard and you also get $ 10 off your bill when you check in on Unilocal.I’m really happy I found a great place to take my dog for all her veterinary needs! Two paws up!

Greta had a great first visit! Dr. Gowing and staff was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgable (especially about her heart murmur).

We found NNVH here on Unilocal & Dr. Hook is the absolute best! She is so warm & has the best bedside manner for both canines & humans! She is very patient & takes the time to explain things & answer questions without making you feel rushed at all. It does seem to be a little pricey, but I never officially shopped around so I can’t say for sure.
I kind of wish the check-​in & check-​out process was a little less chaotic since there’s not a designated place to do either & they often can’t tell who actually needs help. Also, the vet techs are not always the friendliest, but there is nowhere else we would take our pup as long as Dr. Hook is there!

From the start (corgi puppy and 1 yr old tuxedo cat) to the finish (moved and needed their medical records), this vet was exceptional.
The pricing here is definitely slightly more than many other local vets. However, while don’t have the largest income, paying the little bit extra was very worth it for the value here.

Because my schedule seems opposite of Dr. Maun, for quite some time I’ve been seeing more of Dr. Prull, and I think she is also the best. She is kind, intuitive, and patient (with me as much as my cat). She’s also smart, practical and a clear communicator.
This whole staff is really pretty solid — helpful and accommodating.

We had an ok experience here, but ultimately decided to go with a different vet. We went in with very high expectations, which were not necessarily met. The front desk was not as welcoming as anticipated based on other reviews. We were not greeted upon arrival, except for a short «weigh your dog.» The nurse was nice, but didn’t introduce herself, which tends to irritate me. Then we met with Dr. Hook, who did seem like a great vet. She was friendly and informative. However, the experience overall wasn’t amazing enough to justify the price tag.
We were prepared for slightly higher prices here, and were looking for whatever is best for our new pup. However, we weren’t prepared to be completely blown away by the cost. The initial visit cost a total of $ 116 and we didn’t even get any vaccines at this point. If you’re curious, it broke down to $ 54 for the comprehensive exam, $ 44 for parasite screening, and $ 18 for Strongid.
Since there wasn’t anything in particular setting Northwest Neighborhood Vet apart from any other vet, we decided to consider other options within a more modest budget.

You know the intro for Cheers– and how it ends with, «You want to go where everybody knows your name.»? Well, that’s basically with Northwest Neighborhood Vet is– except for animals.
My roommate Frankie and her dog Lenni have been coming here since he was a pup, so naturally, I trusted her judgement and brought my newly adopted fur pup in to see Dr. Gowing. As soon as we walked in, everyone knew Frankie and asked about Lenni. It wasn’t long before Dakota (Cody) was made an official fan. While he still gets scared, the staff does everything they can to make him smile, including giving him treats, which he’ll even eat from time to time!
The doctor himself is personable, straightforward, and clearly loves animals. It’s clear that everyone here wants the best for our pets, and I absolutely trust them with my little furkin.

I took my since deceased dog here for the last few years of his life. I was bled for thousands in that short time. I do think that they should be ashamed of their price gouging ways. They didn’t do much to extend his life, I can honestly say I think the Gui Zhi Tang and cordyceps were the most beneficial to helping my dog in the end.
One of the vets there was good, Becky Prull. But the first vet there whose name I cannot recall was evil. Yep evil. I basically inherited my dog from my family and was a child when we got him as a puppy. I was not in charge of his medical decisions until he was about 13 years old. He had not had dental care in his first 13 years and by the time I got him the vet said it would be unsafe to put him under for the extensive cleaning he would need. To paraphrase her words: If we put him under for the teeth cleaning he will probably die and since he can’t get the cleaning, it will probably kill him. Thanks evil vet. She also gave my dog some kind of tranquilizer one time to give him an x-​ray that really messed him up for days. She was terrible.
That is when I switched to Dr. Becky Prull who was much kinder and a better practitioner. But the policy there seems to be to order lots of expensive tests. I never understood the tests because I wasn’t ever going to give my 14 year old dog heart surgery. We knew his heart was enlarged and why we had to get so many x-​rays and tests to monitor the progression of a super-​senior dog will always be beyond me. Eddie hated it there and I’m sorry that I kept returning and hadn’t found Montavilla Animal Clinic sooner.
