This place may be small, but they make up for it by having some of the best deals on produce, rice noodles, and coconut water ever. They even have fresh young coconuts for $ 1.50! If you are into making Asian inspired recipes I highly recommend it. Literally cut my grocery bill in half by shopping here.

They have a small but wonderfully curated selection of grocery, produce, eastern medicine, cookware, etc. The prices can’t be beat and the people who work there are incredibly nice. Skip Fubon(sp) or Uwajimaya and come here!

This place is great! It’s much closer(and much more bearable) than Fu Bonn and at about the same price point, and has a very good meat selection for its size. The best part is the husband, who’s incredibly friendly and helpful. It’s an enjoyable experience shopping here and if I have a little time to chat I always learn something too.

I have been wanting to go here for months. I drive/walk by all the time and see those piggy banks in the front windows, and the cats that are waving/beckoning. I assumed it sold asian trinkets and tchotchkes, maybe even bento supplies or hello kitty crap? Well they don’t. This is a grocery store. The extent of toys/baubles is what you can see in the window, which is actually kind of impossible to access from inside the store so it would appear they aren’t focused on selling them That said, this grocery is awesome. Noodles, sauces, meats, cooking supplies, oh my! I really wish I knew more about cooking with some of these ingredients but now I have a place to go to experiment. On our way back from here we stopped by the other Asian grocery, Thanh Thao Market, down the street. Their prices were about 5−10% higher on the same items but they did have more produce selection. So unless I need specialized produce, I will be heading to Nam Phuong for my Asian grocery needs.

As I approached Thanh Thao Market one Sunday, I noticed an empty parking lot and a strange stillness that I’d never seen. Closer inspection revealed a sign on the door saying that they would be closed for two weeks, sorry for the inconvenience. Okay … vacations happen, maybe family emergencies, fine but Bob S. needs his tofu, fresh and fried, today! I could ride down, through the golf course to the Bui Tofu factory but I needed a few other things as well. Just then a car pulls into the empty parking lot. The driver is also perplexed by the quietness. I tell her it’s closed and wonder out loud where I’ll get my fresh Bui? She tells me not to worry, there’s another market out a little further on Sandy. She goes there for her tea. Saved!!! The first thing I notice when I finally get across Sandy Blvd. is the piggy banks. Big ones, little ones, all colors. Hands down, the best collection of porcine ‘caisse d’épargne’ I’ve ever seen. Inside, they had it all. Fresh vegetables, big butcher shop, all the standard condiments and jars of sauces, fresh Bui Tofu, fresh noodles. I won’t change from a regular Thanh Thao Market shopper for a number of reasons. It’s across Sandy, they don’t have the deli selection, I know all the folks at Thanh Thao and it’s a little closer to my house but, they saved the day and I’m glad for that.
