3 strikes and you’re out, Mugshots. Stale atmosphere, unfriendly baristas, and barely passable food & beverage prices. Did«Pimp My Job» come through the morgue you formerly owned and convince y’all to become baristas? A smile, an offer to answer any questions, recommendations or, «Hey, thanks for the tip!» would be welcomed. 2 stars for the clever name and local effort.

Came here in the morning before work, I had about half an hour to spare. It’s a small café tucked into a larger building so it can be hard to miss. I got a bagel and apple for $ 3, honestly such a good deal compared to other cafes where they charge $ 5+ for bagels! I believe the bagels they sell are from Portland Bagel Works. There was only one other person there, but it’s a nice café to go to for quiet.

First day in Portland, and this was the type of café I was looking for! A sit down coffee shop where I could work while drinking great coffee! Not only was the coffee great, the veggie burrito really hit the spot!(Great breakfast and lunch food options). The staff were personable and nice. Very chill atmosphere. It is a little hard to find, or at least I walked by it at least once trying to find it. Definitely glad I found it. I highly recommend this place and I will be sure to come back the next time I am in town.

Great place to wait for a dental appointment and commune with your laptop.(I’m hoping the hygienist doesn’t scold me for having to blast the chai tea latte and blueberry muffin from between my teeth.) Pastries come from the awesome Fleur de Lis Bakery in Hollywood, and the coffee comes from Ristretto Roasters, so you know it’s all good. Ambience is mellow. Sound level is quiet. Music is soothing. Major upsides: You’re supporting a family-owned small business run with obvious loving care. Also, Powell’s Books and the Portland Streetcar are nearby. Minor downsides: Not quite enough tables and electrical outlets to go with their free wifi.

Incredible value. Finally a place that doesn’t charge over $ 5 for a freaking latte! It’s close to $ 3 for a medium latte. That’s awesome. Great coffee.

This is exactly the kind of small business I like supporting! It’s owned by a husband and wife team, he’s waited on me 2 days in a row. The food is great — ham, egg and cheese sandwich with coffee yesterday, biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon today — both were outstanding. Hot, fresh, homemade, awesome… the place has changed hands a few times in the last 5 years and the current owners and menu are the best. Ristretto Roasters coffee is done well here too.

It was cold, I wanted a warm drink for my walk back to the office and thought I would pick up a cocoa. I asked for a small because I just wanted something small. Boy, did I get that in spades! This has to be the most overpriced, self-inflated joint around. I paid 2.50 for what a friend said was no bigger than a 6oz cup. The guy behind the bar wasn’t exactly welcoming or helpful with suggestions — heck, he didn’t even do anything salesworthy when I asked how the cocoa was. In an empty café, late afternoon, at the very least I should have been a break from stifling boredom. I guess not. The cocoa. You could tell it was made from quality chocolate. It *felt* like they had taken finely ground sweet chocolate(not semi and not bitter) and poured hot milk over it and then mixed it together but it could have been just quality sweet powdered cocoa. It was rather weak and not all that interesting and certainly not worth the price. Heck, I think I could get a drinking chocolate in that size for that price. I don’t get the raves. Perhaps they have good food or better coffee but overall, just lame, uninspired and overpriced.

Amazing. This place is an example of delicious food made by polite and humble people. The cranberry turkey sandwich is like whoa.

The owners are wonderful! The Mediterranean salad is killer. No olives, add avocado and my day is complete. Great atmosphere as well as. 10⁄10 will go again.

Best name ever. Opposite of that for service. Blank stare waiting for me to order; not a word. Just staring. Same for the paying. Without anything spectacular about the coffee, I was just left disconcerted by the whole vibe. Must’ve been an off day, based on others’ reviews.

I have tried their veggie burrito and their quinoa salad. Both was quite good and filling. The people who run the café are very friendly and all the dishes are freshly made ! Their hot chocolate was very yummy !

Great value, great service with free coffee refills. The sandwiches we had were delicious. Nice environment too. Would go here again if I wasn’t a tourist.

Good little side-street coffee shop, food is great and the people who run it are very nice/friendly. Haven’t seen it too busy in the mornings. One of my favorite places downtown

Cute little breakfast place! We went here before a hike one morning — I think they may have just opened. It was a little slow but worth the wait. I had oatmeal but my friends had delicious breakfast sandwiches. The coffee was awesome. We are not from the area so I felt a little uneasy walking around so early in the morning in a neighborhood I wasn’t familiar with but other than that, I would definitely recommend this place for a quick breakfast bite!

Lovely place. Nice coffee and a great place to hang out and chat. Very friendly staff. For the vegans out there they have a choice of soy; coconut and almond milks.

Standard café/coffee shop. Good service, I mean, one would hope that’s case when there aren’t any other customers in the shop. :) I ordered a chai. The barista kindly asked if I preferred my drink on the spicier or sweeter side. Sweeter side, please! Free wi-fi, plenty of seating with a mini upstairs area, a few outlets to plug in, and VERY quiet for those who need to concentrate(only 1 other person came into the café during my hour there).

Perfect spot to start the morning. The mocha coffee was amazing. Best I’ve had so far. Enjoyed a delicious BLT with a hint of dill. So good. Really hit the spot. Everything tastes so fresh. Great staff. Was a pleasure chatting with them.

Ever find one of those hole-in-the-wall coffee-shops that you hope and pray never becomes a big thing? You know, those kinds of places where people crash all day, have loud and rowdy conversations to distract you from working, blare disgustingly-loud indie nu-wave metal, and have righteous attitudes over what you order? So, basically Stumptown? I have found that place, and it is Mugshots. While from the outside it looks like a standing-room only shop, it’s actually quite spacious and still has that«new shop shrink-wrap» smell to it. I haven’t heard any music slightly above a soft lilt of piano keys and shots being pulled, and the two people on-staff are shockingly friendly. It’s a place that definitely looks like a labor of love. The menu is the best part, though; Serving solid breakfast and lunch items with a robust menu — currently gnawing on a well-made and well-presented multigrain bagel with a perfect balance of lox, cream cheese, cucumbers and arugula for $ 7 — it goes above-and-beyond the usual day(s) old pasties in an acrylic case. Though, for the record, they have those too — the fresh kind. There also appears to be few outlets, so snag one quick and early if you can. Oh, and in case you’re roster-loyal, they use Ristretto Rosters coffee. All-in-all, don’t go here. Don’t make them popular. I don’t want to lose my spot!

Really cute space. They serve baked goods from Fleur De Lis bakery. We got a cranberry scone, which was had a good texture although I thought the cranberries were a bit too overpowering. The coffee was pretty standard — Ristretto I believe. Staff was very friendly and nice. Small but cute place to hangout!
