Cute store, shabby chic meets hippie vibes. Didn’t find anything I was in love with anything per se, but definitely a nice browse. Good section of home stuff, gifts, jewelery if you’re into that. Wouldn’t make a specific trip for it, but was a good stop in while walking around Old Port.

Motifs is a funky little store on Commercial St. that sells gifts? I’m not really sure what they are going for but it’s an interesting mix of clothes, jewelry, candles, and décor items. It’s a little expensive but that’s what I would expect for the Old Port. I didn’t really look at the clothes so much because it’s not my style at all, but they were very expensive and not something I would spend my money on. I happened to go to this store because a bunch of my coworkers kept visiting the store and came back with bags of treasures. Motifs was having their winter sale and it was off the charts crazy. The whole back section of the store was for sale items. All Christmas items were 75% and were piled up on a big table. Plus they had baskets and boxes spread all around the floor filled with wine glasses, metal letters, soap dishes, candlesticks and more. I liked the feeling of digging in a basket and coming up with something awesome that was priced to sell. I left there with two prints done by a Maine artist($ 5 each), a wrought iron filigree soap dish($ 2), metal letters($ 1 a piece) and some lemon chiffon ginger soap for($ 5). You can’t beat all of that for under $ 15! I’d go back if they were having a sale. The regular priced items seemed a little overpriced to me but then again, this store is probably catering to tourists so of course the prices are going to be high. If you’re looking for a gift for someone, I recommend checking Motifs out.

Was in town and walking around looking through shops and stumbled across this place. It’s a wanna be anthropologie with pricing the match. They did have a few cute items. I was browsing for about 7 minutes when a woman came up to me and curtly said«we’re closing, thanks«. Yeahhhh, great people skills. Clothes are wayyy over priced.

A cute shop to pass some time. We were lured in by the cool things we spied in the window. Fun signs decorated a wall. Ladies clothing was available, but a bit pricey. My mom commented that everything was over $ 100. But then I spotted a $ 98 green dress right as we made our way out.

This store has a lovely selection of gifts, clothing, etc, some of it very reasonably priced. The low rating is for the owner of the shop, who ignored me from the second I entered the store. She held court with friends who entered right after me, but never once acknowledged me, even friendly eye contact or a smile. Don’t quite get it… I did shower before leaving the hotel :), was nicely dressed, and carried bags from some neighboring establishments, so was obviously in the shopping mood. Anyhow, Ms. Snooty Snobby Proprietress, how about learning the very basics of customer service? Just a suggestion. Or do you only save that for your friends?

Adorable little boutique in Portland! I stopped in here after being beckoned from the street by a window full of nautical décor and beautiful print dresses caught my eye. I was happy to find a well-curated selection of attire, gifts, décor and cards, at a range of prices. I ended up getting a gorgeous dress and basically had to be pulled out of the store by my husband before I spent the rest of the day there. So lovely!

About Motifs: — an adorable boutique with a beachy feel — right on Commercial St, with a great view — they sell lots of items that would make great gifts, such as key chains, unique pens, jewelry, and typical hipster stuff like mustaches and owl things — cute clothes and hats you’d want to wear while enjoying the breeze in Portland — tons of home accessories like stuffed animals, wooden signs, plants, pillows, etc — very friendly and bubbly employee, who gave us great restaurant recommendations!
