Meowhaus Feline Boarding & Day Spa

Just talking to this place was scary. My cat is very squish and was threaten bad be for I got her. And she is 19. And when she gets nervous or scared. She throws up. And needs medicine. Just listening to them in how they would handle this problem. SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME

Our kitty has stayed at meowhaus a number of times, and we feel happy and safe about his stays. we have tried some other boarding locations and our cat seems to come back with some adjustment issues. But meowhaus treats their cats with love. Each cat gets some time roaming around the facility as well as watching the birds. We also love getting the am/​pm summary of the cats status and food intake.

We had our cat stay at Meow Haus for 10 days during the summer, and I just had Kit groomed there. I was nervous about leaving him anywhere, but I felt completely confident with Meow Haus and the level of care and attention they give to each cat. The facility is clean and there is a lot for cats to climb on and to look at. The people at Meow Haus care very deeply about cats and they understand the difficulty the owner and the cat feels in being away from home. I can’t imagine bringing my cat anywhere else.

Let me start off by saying that the thought of leaving my precious kitten with anybody (even my own mother!) made me nervous! We found the meowhaus the first time after she was spayed and needed to be watched in her cone of shame while I was at work so she wouldn’t tear her stitches. David was amazing and got her in on short notice and treated her with as much love as I would. I just picked her up from her second 3 day stay while I was on vacation, she had a room where she could climb and the staff let us pick her up after our flight even though they were technically closed. I would recommend this place to everybody and cannot thank them enough! The only downside is that they are always booked (which is because they are so great!) but the staff have always found a way to fit her in.

I made an appointment to get my elder kitty shaved for the summer with Anya. And what a sweetie she is! My cat felt very comfortable with her and the lion cut she gave her looked great! I have never had my animals boarded but the facilities were quite nice and the cats had pretty sweet condos. She built her bird lodging in glass behind the kitty condos so they can watch the birds which I thought was a pretty clever idea. I will certainly go back for next summers shave! Thanks Anya for making TRex’s first shave fairly painless!

Meowhaus is wonderful. I’ve boarded Pennynoodle, my cat, there twice. His first stay was only a few days long, while his second stay was around 2.5 weeks.
We spent our entire vacation fretting about Penny, but when we got back, he hardly seemed to notice we’d been gone and apparently was having the time of his life there. He came back healthy and obviously played with.
Both times the staff was incredibly accommodating. The facilities are the best I’ve seen of any boarding house — tall, spacious rooms for the cats with an aviary to keep them entertained. If you’re a true doting owner, you can get extras like pictures and snacks and spa treatments for your pets.
I cannot recommend this place enough!

I brought my 14-​year old cat to stay at the Meowhaus for two nights recently while we were in the process of moving from out of state. I’ve never left him somewhere like this before and he’s always been cared for in the comfort of our home. But, I was really glad to find such a great resource for keeping him safe and comfortable for a few days.
The facility is clean and well taken care of. The staff is great, especially Sean, who came a bit early on a Sunday to get us checked in, and went out of his way to give us tips on Portland restaurants and neighborhood. He was fantastic.
I stopped by the following day to check on my cat, and he seemed surprisingly well adjusted… was chilling on his memory foam perch looking out at the aviary. It was nice that he could look out at other cats too but not interact directly with them.
My husband picked up my cat and brought him home and mentioned that the person working said that he (my cat) had been «skittish and grumpy,» which left a semi-​negative taste in my mouth. I would have preferred a positive review of my critter, esp considering how out of his element this was for him. But, I would board my cat there again, and would recommend it to others.

We boarded our two cats for just under a month while we were moving across the country. Immediately, the staff made us (and more importantly, our felines) feel at home. After bringing two scared cats off the plane with some exhausted human owners, Anya made sure that someone would be around to receive us even though they were usually closed at that time. She even provided us with enough food to tide that cats over until it was convenient for us to head to the pet store. When the cats fought the night after the plane ride (hey, they’re siblings, it happens), the staff put them in separate rooms and kept me updated until they resolved their differences and were happily reunited for the remainder of their stay. We received thoughtful picture updates throughout their stay and were completely confident they were, in fact, enjoying a little extra attention than normal. When I arrived to pick-​up my cats, they were clearly very comfortable and I feared even a little reluctant to leave (that aviary is seriously awesome!)! Meowhaus even extended a discount to us even though we stayed just a few days shy of the 30-​day minimum generally required. Will definitely use in the future and highly recommend to anyone looking for top notch cat care.

If I could give Meowhaus 1,000 stars I would, I absolutely love this place! I board my cat here any time I go on vacation and I also bring her here to get her haircut about once every 4 or 5 months. Both Anya and David are so kind and my cat just loves them, Anya does such a great job grooming her, I am always more than satisfied. The establishment itself is really cool, the cats have birds to look at and a little box that they can sit in that overlooks everything. My cat is 100% at home when she comes here and I would not take her anywhere else!

My cat and I owe so much to this place. I just moved here from California, and Anya, the owner, was accommodating in every way during the several weeks that my cat had to be in cat boarding.
Anya was willing to meet me after hours to check Chicken, my cat, in. Chicken HATED being boarded at first, but after a few days she really settled in. Anya was very compassionate with Chicken when she was upset and mad about being in boarding. Eventually Chicken calmed down and ended up being comfortable in the space and with all of the staff. I really didn’t want to board Chicken, but I had to, and I’m so grateful that I was able to board her here.
The entire staff genuinely cares about the animals they serve. Anya texted me updates on how Chicken was doing, sent a picture, and even gave Chicken a little mouse toy as a gift when we picked her up. I can’t recommend them enough.

First I will preface this review with the fact that I really wanted to like this place more. It looks completely awesome online and I was able to make all my arrangements for my cat to stay out of state and online. I love the idea of the aviary and it does appear to have more space than most boarding places and really is designed for a cat. I wish I could give Meowhaus a better review. However, my cat’s stay was not good for her and I feel giving a better review falsely tells someone to expect their cat’s stay will go un-​hitched.
To be fair, my cat has always stayed at home with a house sitter in the past, but being new to the Portland area, and not knowing anyone who could house sit, we decided to board our cat for five days. I probably travel four weeks out of the year. My cat is four years old, has gone on road trips, and she greets all new people that come to our house. (I.e. She’s a flexible and socially friendly cat).
Anya is a cat person to the bone. When I came to drop my cat off she trash talked dogs while I was there (did I mention we also have a dog?). But something she didn’t seem to recognize is the key fact about cats liking privacy. Any cat person should really know and respect this. Their suites do not really offer privacy as they are clear windows in the front and back so the cats constantly see the other cats or whoever is present at the place. When we put her in the room I asked if my cat could have her small kennel without the door left in her suite because she likes to hide and it’s a common comfortable place I find her napping in at home. She said sure no problem.
And of course I’m a sucker pet owner. I paid for the «extras» while I was away — photo to be sent, fish flake snacks, spa manicure, ect. I felt bad leaving my cat, but I felt pretty comfortable leaving her at the meawhaus when I left for my trip back home.
When I returned to pick up my cat her personal kennel was removed from her suite. I was told by Anya, «oh she got really comfortable the first day so I took it out.» I was given her food back which the bag was almost completely full as given. I had measured out exactly to how much she gets fed daily (yes I measure) plus an extra days worth in case of flight delays. If its one thing I can count on my cat is eating. She loves to eat. She comes out of the wood work to eat. The fact that she did not eat during her stay obviously shows my cat was uncomfortable. She yowled the entire time I was there picking her up too.
I mentioned something to comfort my cat when collecting her to go (ridiculous I know), like «I’m sorry sweetie,» and the owner was offended and started to act very defensive about how she put fish flakes on her food every day and loved it, ect. I tried to be polite and just keep it simple saying she’s just never been in a boarding house and usually says at home, to which she replied, «Yeah, I leave my cat at home with a house sitter too.» Really? Then why are you offended that I’m apologizing to my cat for putting her in a place she’s obviously uncomfortable?
I also happened to look at her litter box and was appalled that the tiniest amount of cat litter was in the box. I would call it a smear of litter. I know they don’t want to be wasteful but what cat wants to piss on a plastic box, because that’s basically what the cats must be doing.
My cat yowled the entire next two days at home. She kept crawling up on my lap probably every hour on the hour (she’s not a cuddly cat…) as if to say please don’t ever make me go there again. She has never acted like this in the past when I have traveled. Don’t worry, I won’t!
There are a lot of awesome reviews on Unilocal for this place, which makes me feel bad for rating this place low. But this place is obviously not for every cat.

My calico usually boards with a woman I’ve known and trusted for years. There was no room at her cattery during a 5 day weekend in June. I called and went for a tour of Meowhaus. I was impressed: neat, organized, clean facility. I spoke w/​David who had me fill out a very detailed registration form. The aviary was a nice touch since there are no outdoor «view» windows for each of the guests. My cat seemed to make herself right at home. When I picked her up 5 days later, she was calm and friendly. The Meowhaus staff helped me pack up her things and even gave me a «report card» which gave a brief description of how her stay went. I liked that very much and appreciated the warmth, and care of David and the owner.
Although I’m partial to my original boarding person, I know that if I ever need an alternate boarding service, that Meowhaus is the first place I’ll look for my feline. Thank you Meowhaus staff. You are great!

We left our cat here for a two week stay while we went on a long family vacation. I can’t say enough about how fantastic it is. The rooms are large, the aviary is awesome and gives the cats something to do, and its really obvious the staff love the cats in their care. They will even email you pictures of your cats so you can see your cat is happy and doing well!
They only have about 20 rooms, but that makes sure they get to spend quality time with each cat every day. Ours didn’t want to leave when it was time to go! I wish I could give more than 5 stars. David, thank you for all your work. Cinder is a happy cat!

Speaking as an over-​protective pet parent, it’s not often that I can leave my cats at a boarding hotel without feeling some pangs of worry (and guilt) while on vacation. But from the moment I dropped of my kitties at Meowhaus, I was pang free and was able to enjoy my vacation without worry.
The place itself is amazing (I think I enjoyed the aviary as much as the cats) and the staff cares for each cat as if they were part of an extended feline family.
Meowhaus is the place for my cats from now on.

Love the rooms & size. Bird aviary is fantastic! I don’t think our cat wanted to leave & I think she still misses her feline friends at meowhaus. We will definitely bring her back! Thx for the peace of mind knowing she was in good hands. Owner & staff are very friendly & attentive.

This place is AMAZING. We have two older cats who get really nervous and anxious in new settings (as do many cats). My partner had seen this place many times and decided to give it a try while we were out of town for a few days. Anya was amazing and really knows cats. The layout is superb. Each cat get its own room (and if they are a pair they get to stay together) and each room has a window, a perch high up, scratch pad. Each window had a view of the bird aviary for the cats to look at. They also got turns to wander around the place and got a lot of one on one time with Anya.
Anya really knows cats and really understood each cat, especially our cats and really treated them all with respect and loved each one. The cats seemed as if they enjoyed their stay, and I think with Anya’s skill and love of the cats, made it easier for the cats to adjust and have fun!
The facility was clean and very well kept. It was amazing and highly recommend this cat boarding place. I really can’t say enough how great Anya was with our cats and how pleased we are with the service!
It was all worth the money we spent — it was completely affordable!

MeowHaus is a great place to leave your cats for either short or long trips. We were selling our home and just dropped them off during the open house. Anya was very attentive and would even text us photos and videos while we were out of the country! It was great to know that our kitties were being cared for and they even seemed to enjoy their baths! Hands down the best boarding place we’ve been!
