I’ve been to several McMenamins. I have tried several different items on the menu. I will just say this. Not a fan of the food here. The beer is great though.

Wow! What a pleasant lunch! We had the choice of inside or patio outside dining. We had the El Diablo sandwich & the Portland dip, that Laura, our server reccomended. I loved being able to plug in my phone at the table, as we are traveling & were running low on battery. We will stop in again before leaving Portland, but it will be to try the dinner menu.

Instead of telling us they were closed/closing they just turned up the music so loud we couldn’t even hear each other. Passive aggressive much?

Loved this place big time until I heard the bald bartender being totally rude, very loudly… Apparently he would like all students to know they are not welcome to take a booth, even when several are open and available and there’s tons of free seating. Instead, lowlifes like us should sit at the bar and not take seating from more valued customers. Ask him for anything, he’ll let you know where you stand on his list of priorities, compared to regular customers. I order several items at happy hour, tip 20% minimum(I’m a server myself), and have never witnessed all the booths full, leaving large parties unable to sit in one– ever. I didn’t know I was the scourge of this place for arriving solo with my textbooks, two blocks from a university. Students beware major attitude and an overtly unwelcoming presence behind the bar. The waitresses are wonderful. It’s terrible that the bartender goes out of his way to let students know they are not welcome, unless they want to deal directly with his unnecessary unkindness at the bar.

This location is convenient because it is located practically on the PSU campus. My friends and I go during happy hour for the Cajun tots. The hamburgers are good but could be cheaper. Three stars because of the prices. The staff is decently friendly. They are always busy so expect to wait a bit. This is the perfect place to get a warm drink when it is raining. The Hot Toddy(?) is delicious.

What a joke! Ordered a blue cheese burger and fries and received a mushroom swiss burger. I waited as they cooked the correct one and it was basically dropped on my table with a quick«sorry about that». The burger was right the second time, but the french fries were severely undercooked and grease soaked. The waiter seemed as if it was a «me» issue and irritatingly said«I’ll just take it off your bill.» Free food wasn’t my intention, a relaxing sit down meal after being here from out of town and having a family member in the hospital for the weekend was. We obviously picked the wrong spot. Never have I had an experience at McMenamin’s like this. Save your self the disappointment and pick a different place.

Our chef tonight may not particularly care for me but she does consistently compose the most excellent wrap you could possibly find.

It smells as soon as you walk in, I had a wilted salad my IPA tastes like a bud light(Brewed by them) and the service was awful. Do yourself a favor walk a block south and go to Rogue.

Took my brother and SIL here on New Year’s Day. They’re first-time visitors to Portland. so although this might not have been the most incredible place to make a first impression of our fine city, it was open late on the holiday. They loved the beer selection, and the ~$ 10 pitcher price. Bomb cajun tots, like at many a McMenamin. Expected way too much from their $ 4 happy hour grilled cheese

Typical McMenamins but small. And when I say typical McMens, what I mean is good food, a variety of brews, and taking a notoriously long time to get your food to you. ;-) Not a huge menu but most likely something for most people. This last visit we were there with out of town family who were here with the Broadway Beauty and the Beast show. They were between shows and had a fairly small window of time before the next call time. Knowing that they usually take a while to serve the food I explained the situation to the server… assuming it would still take a little longer than necessary. Nope! That guy was on it! We had our food in no time flat which left us a little time to sit and actually chat! Much appreciated as we haven’t seen these family members for 30+ years and may not get the chance to see them again. Kudos to the server for making the food happen in a timely manner!

We have been here twice now and both times I was disappointed. Service is always awful even if you are sitting at the bar. Menu is limited and food usually comes out only warm not hot like it should. The service is slow and rude and so not worth the money to come here.

Oh, McMenamins, what am I to do with you. Seriously. I can’t count how many visits I’ve made to your various venues since you got your start in Portland. At first, I didn’t notice much because I was in my college years and many of those who served myself and friends were just as young as we were, so they were part of our tribe and it was probably the bad bosses who were causing them all the problems that led to bad service(not getting good service or looking like any of the servers gave a flying f**ck). You know how that goes, right? The last visit I made here was probably for a beer in like 2000 or so, so the service was probably OK. The last time I ate at one of your restaurants was out at the Power Station Restaurant at Edgefield was sometime around 2010 or 2011. Several in my party ordered macaroni and cheese and got it half nuked and half frozen. I believe several were comped with something, but the incident put a «bad taste» in my mouth and I haven’t been back to visit since that time until last Friday night. Walking home from the streetcar, I happened by your Market Street Pub in the mood for a nice meal. It looked so cozy and comfy to sit and have a drink and some dinner while reading a good book that I was overcome. I was greeted very kindly by a smiling young man at the front counter and given my choice of booths to sit in and had one by the front window — so good so far. Feeling very good at the excellent start(it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a smiling McMenamin’s server), I ordered a pear sidecar, a real success in taste with pear brandy and orange and lemon juice. Very, very nice. Letting my expectations get ahead of me, I got brave and ordered fish and chips being Friday night and all. Reading and sipping cocktail made me feel expansive and like I had the world by the tail until I got the fish and chips. The fries, surely one of your signature dishes, were badly fried and were darker and a few were just on the edge of being burnt — somebody perhaps got distracted. The fish(cod) were huge and pretty heavily breaded and once again singed in a couple of places, but I think the breading and fish were too thick and should have been thinner. I asked for more tartar sauce to doctor up the fish and which was brought to me immediately by a very polite and friendly young woman. Even though the food was singed, it still tasted OK, and the cocktail helped me feel festive(world by the tail and all). I have to give at least one star for vastly improved customer service and even with a smile, and one star for the gorgeous cocktail that was so tasty and lifted me above the food. No stars for the food, which I should have returned, but I was in my little bubble and just nibbled along with strictly OK to meh food. But the equation never adds up for me to five stars for nearly any McMenamin’s encounter, and I have never understood or figured out how someone as smart and stylish as the McMenamin’s organization cannot make their food and service balance and come out to five stars. So I’m voting with my feet to walk away and not return to any of the McMenamin’s unless I hear somebody has been working on their math skills there.

This shouldn’t get one star but negative stars weren’t an option. I keep giving this place a chance but I don’t know why! Me — could we get menus and water.‘we waited 20 minutes — 30 if you count the 10 minutes that my sister was there before us. Waiter — «more like 5!» Me — «I have my parking receipt to show its been 20 minutes.» W– then go get it if you want to go there!” Me — let’s go guys — this man is rude. As we were leaving Waiter — sorry to ruin your day! Me– sorry sir, only I can ruin my day. Pizzicato got our business instead. My daughter had a similar experience a few months back. Is it a coincidence we’re all brown skinned? Hmmm other reviewers have similar experience?

Great Beer selections! Local pub feel downtown. Great place to relax with friends. I had the Bull Market hamburger. Nothing special, but it was good. The fries were also good. If you want a low key local pub, this would be your spot.

I’ve been here once before and while service is perpetually slow here the first time the service was at least friendly, polite, and fun. This time however, after reading all the reviews… it’s true the servers and hostesses and bartender look less than pleased to have their job let alone do it. They looked to have two servers a bar tender and I dont know if he was the cook but he served directly from the kitchen. I came because the seasonal ciders are fantastic and happy hour tots/fries are always good. But it’s rather unfortunate people aren’t happier in general here. For being a Mcmenamins it doesn’t quiet meet the exuberance expected for the establishments.

After 15 mins I go in to give our order but waitress claims 50 customers. Weird, I counted 35 including us. Maybe more staff would help. Beer is good but haven’t gotten a menu so can’t order either.

I went for a solitary dining experience when I had to attend a ceremony at PSU and had time to kill afterwards. Honestly I was leery at first, the waiter seemed like he wasn’t totally into dealing with custies at the exact moment I walked in but I realized later it was pretty busy. Sat outside and got a pint first, it was pretty tasty really. It was a little assembly line style but overall I really enjoyed my visit to this street pub. I’ve talked smack about McMenamins a lot and waited for excruciating amounts of time at other locations, so I was really surprised. Plus I had the fish sandwich with cheese(usually not a combo I willingly submit to) and it was actually quite good. I’ll be going back to this particular incarnation, especially to try the cocktails.

Having lunch at the Market Street Pub yesterday made me really grateful that I’m no longer a 20-something college student working in food service. My food – a ½ turkey sandwich with tater tots on the side – was good, but the service was dismal. I actually felt bad for my server, who seemed to be having a difficult afternoon, and the pub seemed understaffed. I recently acquired a McMenamins Passport; Market Street Pub was my first stop for a stamp in it, on my way to the Portland Art Museum. I’m hoping that stops at other McMenamins joints will be better.

I recently moved downtown from the east side. I found this being the closest go-to bar that I thought I could count on for happy hour and snacks. Boy was I wrong. McMenamins always has a bad representation of horrible service. Most places I disagree, but at this location I never seem to get positive attitudes or appreciation of my patronage. I love most locations, laid back and easy going. This location is right downtown and although its not much to look at inside their outdoor patio is nice in the summer. I’ll give them that. The bartenders are always a little slow, the staff is very ignorant to people and rude to most people, and the food always comes out wrong, cold, or just plain gross(I agree with the pictures of rotten tomatoes posted here as having happened to me too). I keep coming in thinking I’ll find that bartender that really enjoys their jobs, or that server that remembers I’m 25 and not 18 for my third visit this week. This never seems to happen. Everybody seems grumpy, unenthusiastic, and always have lots of gossip to talk about at the bar instead of checking on the clients. I really enjoy most locations. And I don’t need them to pay attention to me every two minutes, but when my drink has been empty for twenty minutes and there’s only four other people in the entire place I believe I’ll go somewhere else. That way I’ll get service in general, edible food, and pay better prices. Oh and two days later I got a great person berating me on my choice of words. I can only hope they’re not an employee.
