I ate here for lunch earlier this week. The service was nice, but the food wasn’t good. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and ate maybe a quarter of it before I pulled a piece of bone out of my mouth. That sort of thing grosses me out so I was unable to finish my meal. Tortilla chips have a poor aftertaste and taste like they’re from a bag. I do like that they have a patio, but I won’t be back.

Worst mazatlan I’ve been to. Ordered a kiwi margarita, got mouthfuls of thick syrup… Way too sweet to drink. We politely said that our drinks were the sweetest drinks we’ve ever had and the server Luis made it seem like the biggest inconvenience to him. He says«well that do you want me to do!?» Then walked away from our table…. Awful customer service.

I am new to the area so I have been eating out daily and trying to find my «spot.» I think I’ve found it here at Mazatlan. The happy hour specials(3 – 7 mon-sat) are great. The 5 $ margarita definitely is the most bang for your buck. I also ordered at quesadilla on the happy hour menu and it was spilling off the plate. For 10 $ I left with a buzz, a full belly, and a box of leftovers. Luis was a great server, very personable. Check it out!

Our crew has been coming here for years now and we absolutely love this place. I’m bummed to see the reviews as they do not do it justice! Is it fancy or super high quality food? No. Is an entrée less than $ 8? Yes. If you’re looking for solid Mexican, drinks for cheap and fantastic service, this is the place. They will also let you act drunk and unruly and won’t judge you! A great place for a large group.

Stopped here for a spur of the moment lunch bite. Very quick and friendly service. Kids were happy with the lunch specials and I came away satisfied. It was just what we were looking for.

Yuck! Yuck yuck yuck… Is there a good Mexican place in Portland? If so, it’s not this place. Beans were terrible!!! Probably powdered beans or directly out of a can.

NEVERAGAIN. I went to get Mexican food & got Asian food. For birthdays they do a shot w/sombrero & we asked about it and they ignored it– it was my girls birthday. Ordered the shrimp fajitas which I ordered two weeks prior and came out Asian style with broccoli, cauliflower, and shrimp and as I tried to explain that I ordered the same thing not even a month ago the server argued with me for more than five minutes straight. Not only have I never been argued with like this in my life but he sat basically scolding me that I must’ve ordered wrong. The foods disgusting and the service is beyond embarrassing. He came back to the table and took away my rice & beans– so unnecessary. I didn’t order anything else because I knew he would spit in our food at the least. If you dare to go there the authentic vibe because it’s a warmed up Asian wok. It’s such s waste to have such terrible food offered in a prime location. The health inspector needs to shut this place down.

Listen amigos, I’ve never been to Mexico, so I’m not about to comment on how«authentic» the food is. I have no idea. It’s your standard tacos, burritos, enchiladas, specialty carnivore entrees that don’t apply to me, and it’s delicious. Seriously, the food is really good! It seems they’ve had some pollo-issues in the past, so maybe avoid that. I always, always get their vegetarian burrito. It’s filled with literally every vegetable that is delicious, as opposed to the generic peppers & onions & nothing else at a lot of other mexican restaurants. It’s also giant so I usually get about 3 meals out of it. I actually really like to eat it for breakfast the next morning. Is that weird? The service is decent. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it could be much better, but as long as someone is bringing delicious food to my table so that I have to exert little to no energy towards cooking and preparing food(two things I really hate), it’s hard for me to complain. One star is sacrificed for the weak margaritas.

Delicious! So good! We loved it! The rice was amazing! Chips and salsa, perfect. We will be coming back every visit to Portland. Thank you for the exceptional service!

6:00pm on a Thursday. Pros: portion sizes are great for the price. Cons: food was mediocre, dry, and bland. Service was also bad. The first waitress wasn’t able to tell me what was in the food(I am guessing she was new), the second was able to answer my question, though I felt rushed, and as if I was interrupting their day being here.

The chicken really is rotten. I have never tasted meat that bad in my entire life. I don’t know how they could have used it because it must have smelled as bad as it tasted. If you’ve ever thrown away a container from fresh chicken or thrown raw chicken scraps in the trash and let them sit for a week or more, well the meat tasted like that smell. And the sauce on the chicken Diablo really is bad and tasted like ketchup with a few sliced onions thrown in. It is obvious that this place is having to cut corners.

If I could give this zero stars, I would… Went in with my mom, ordered the chicken Diablo to share. — the sauce was obviously made with mostly ketchup — the chicken was rotten, I was throwing up when I got home, my mom was sick the next day too — the server tried to argue with us, when it was so completely obvious that the chicken was rotten, it was so disgusting –they need to be inspected thoroughly by the health department –do not eat here and if you must, do not order anything with meat in it

Should have checked the reviews before stopping in. Service is BRUTAL! 15 mins to see anyone. No refills and 20 mins for simple food. Food quality is acceptable.

I recently moved in near by this restaurant so I wanted to give it a try, but was almost scared off by the bad reviews. It was actually pretty decent! We were seated right away on a Friday evening. The portions are huge and the food was really good. You also get chips and salsa. I got the vegetarian burrito and it was delicious! They added a ton of veggies to it. I will definitely come back again. They do have happy hour which may have been from 4 – 6

Seriously don’t understand how people can complain about the service here. Other than the waiter yelling«gimme that!» at my plate when I had finished boxing my food, which was just funny, this place is very cordial. I went here on Mother’s Day with my sister and father, a divorcee of two years, and we observed people celebrating, drinking margaritas, and having overall fun with one another in the sunny patio room. I’ve been here plenty of times before and always value the complimentary chips that come with the menus. This is a custom many of Portland’s less-deserving-of-the-title-«Mexican Food» Mexican Food Restaurants do not observe. I’m would like to use this sentence to call out Cha! Cha! Cha! and Los Gorditos for this type of ignorance. Anyway, chips are hot and oily and not dry and white like many other places. The salsa is actually very hot too(spiciness not temp) but a bit watery. This was the first time I noticed this though, probably because in the past, I was distracted by my gratitude toward the chips and salsa just being free. My friend and I went here once and he said at Mazatlan he felt comfortable as someone who doesn’t necessarily eat for taste but enjoys the act of eating. With that being said, there’s no way I could finish a whole burrito from here. I ordered the vegetarian one that looked kind of like a model of a small hill on a plate covered in guacamole, lettuce, cheese, and sour cream. For anyone to eat this with their hands would be so perverse and unacceptable to do in public, they’d have to be willing to face social ostracization forever afterward. Seriously do not get near me with this in your hands. You will note in my photo«share» I used the panorama feature just to make a small joke about the size. The burrito was filled and also may be covered with rice, beans, bell peppers, mushrooms(fortunately!), and carrots(unfortunately). While this is far from how I normally would prefer to eat a burrito — the ingredients themselves taste fine and the burrito is not advertised as «wet» which is very respectful. When I re-heated it this morning as just a brown and yellow mound, it retained one indiscernible«left-overs» flavor. This was not a bad thing, and actually preferred to what I normally eat for breakfast. Do not listen to any disgruntled Timbers fans about the service, nor their judgement on anything outside of these reviews. Mazatlan is a great place for families and testing your stomach volume because the food and folks will always want to turn it up.

The service here is awful. We were completely ignored for most of the time, they never brought us menus. When our drinks finally came they brought my friend the wrong drink, and the manger proceeded to argue with him about it and got upset. We canceled the order and left, it was just to uncomfortable. I will say the drinks are fairly strong, but it’s hardly worth it.

What could and should be an awesome place to hangout, drink margaritas, munch on tacos and sit out on the sunny patio during this beautiful weather, is simply no bueno. This place is in a sweet location on West Burnside and just a few blocks from my place. It even has a parking lot which is really great and which few places in the area have. What it doesn’t have is decent service. When I joined Oscar B. at his table last Sunday I sat there for a good 15 minutes before someone came around and then didn’t even bother to say hola or to ask me if I wanted anything. It wasn’t like they were busy or anything either as we were the only ones there. Gracias for that. Another thing that sucks is that they don’t have happy hour on the weekend and the prices for the mediocre fare and crap-ass service are kinda high. I’m not feeling el amor for you Mazatlán. After a re-union with an old friend we decided to grab dinner. Not much was open and we stumbled upon this place. I’m from Texas and have eaten at many different Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants, this was a disappointment. It was like a step up from taco bell but much more expensive. I wouldn’t say its the worst tasting Mexican food I’ve had, but it is the worst for the price range. I had the beef quesadilla. It tasted like it was just Cheddar cheese with some ground taco meat. I’m used to getting decent quality beef in a quesadilla and they didn’t have it. As far as my friend goes, he had a burrito and thought it wasn’t too bad. So there might be a redeeming aspect of this restaurant, but I won’t be back. I mean its pretty fucking hard to make a bad quesadilla.

The drinks are good, but are also really expensive compared to other places in the neighborhood. The food was also good, but expensive. The service was great, very patient and kind, quick with the food and booze.
