Bradley Lechman-​Su was appointed by a judge in Multnomah County to represent my two pre-​teen daughters when my family was working to revise our parenting plan. He seems like a pleasant enough man and was reasonable about returning my calls. I’m not sure it was appropriate to have him appointed in this situation.
My daughters are caught in a difficult spot in which they don’t have the cognitive skills, nor the emotional strength to recognize yet what is happening to them. As victims of parental alienation syndrome, they aren’t yet able to see the abuse they are experiencing. Mr. Lechman-​Su assured me that he had ‘organic’ discussions with them. I’m not sure exactly what those discussions were and I was never directly told what they wanted in our family arrangement. I imagine he understands the law and he discussed his own family’s split and the reasonable arrangement they were able to make to accommodate their needs.
Our situation is nothing at all like what he described to me of his situation, nor anyone else’s that I know about. I’m making my review based on the fact that he was not able to see the manipulation that is going in the girls’ lives and I don’t believe he is the appropriate attorney to participate a case like ours. If you have a normal, average family, you may be able to use Mr. Lechman-​Su to help your children. In fact, he may be able to help your family as a whole to work toward a good outcome for all.
That said, in an average family, your adults may be able to work together and at some point the children’s voices will be heard. Our situation is an outlier and I believe the average attorney is not the right one to help us.
Unfortunately, this attorney wasn’t able to recognize this and his lack of experience was at best ineffectual and possibly even damaging to my children’s welfare and mental health over the long run, as it’s my understanding that children subjected to parental alienation struggle with future relationships, at best.
