I stop here on occasion since my Wife passed away. I always get the chicken fried rice. It is pretty good, hot and has a quite a bit of chicken in it for $ 5.35 a pint out the door. The dining area is a little shabby, and gives the appearance of needing updating, but the prices would have to go up.

Special B is my jam, it’s the only thing I get. LO Main, chicken fingers, Rangoon, beef stick, egg roll. SUPERSODA. ALWAYSGETTHESUPERSODA. It’s honestly not bad, don’t expect much but good hangover food.

Very nice people in a nice location and that’s about it. The food is not even mediocre and the building its self is really gross, for lack of a better term. Very surprised they are in business. The buffet should be $.99¢ per person because that is pretty much what it is worth and I still don’t think I’d go back. As stated before, the bathrooms are something to marvel over but, not for any good reason. I wouldn’t recommend this place to a homeless man with a $ 10 bill

Unfortunately, the reviews are correct. The food here is horrible. How do you mess up lo mein? I do not advise eating here. I tried it because I was at the La Quinta Inn and it was the closest. Big mistake.

Holy crap. My boyfriend and I just made the mistake of ordering from here. The portions are measly, which is actually great since their food is cooked in their microwave. Their pork fried rice is brownish-orange minute rice. Mushy and no vegetables, egg, or, wait for it… pork! None! Everything tasted so incredibly gross. Most of mine is going in the trash. Huge waste of money, plus I’m sure the digestive consequences will be miserable. Do not eat this shit!

Rude delivery guys! The man who takes your order is actually really pleasant, but those delivery guys are just complete jerks. So I actually don’t mind the taste of the food. For cheap Chinese food it’s pretty good. The chow mei foon is great and so is the pork fried rice. But the deliver guys are sooooooo rude!!!

Worst review I’ve ever given. Owner attempted to charge a la carte rather than discounted meal price and was defensive/argumentative when I questioned the difference. Lo Mein was dry and bland. General Tso Chicken was fatty and chewy like Tyson Buffalo Chicken. For some reason they included luke warm Spare Ribs(also chewy and fatty) that tasted like they were cooked in a rusty dishwasher, and their Egg Rolls were greasy and bland. The only thing that offered any sort of redemption from this otherwise miserable experience was the Fortune Cookie, which I honestly half expected to say something like«There is No Santa» or «P.S. — You Have D**k Cancer».

I am a food snob. Since moving to Maine, I have not had very much Chinese food that I consider to be good. Lang’s is one of the two places in the state that I have enjoyed in the past two years. I ordered the chicken with mixed vegetables dinner special which came with my choice of lo mein, pork fried rice or white rice, two appetizers and a soda(all for under $ 9). I got the Dumplings and the Crab Rangoon. I also ordered an egg roll and a wonton soup for later. Everything was great! The egg rolls were huge. The Crab Rangoon was delicious. The wonton soup had GIANT pieces of roast pork and the portions were ample! I really did like Lang’s food and customer service, which was impeccable. My review appears to be the opposite of most people’s. While I think the remainder of the Chinese’ food in Maine is garbage, Lang’s is one that I really enjoyed! Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I am a Philly transplant?!? Maybe our tastes are just different…

Just say NO!!! I truly hate to write this, because I think the people here are pleasant enough. The problem is they don’t in any way represent the Portland area expectation for, at the very least, decent quality food. #1 the bathrooms, and i won’t even describe them #2 the food. I honestly can’t understand how they are still in business? It has taken me a number of years to write this, because I try to live by the old adage, ‘If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all’…however, I wouldn’t let you eat Lang’s food, let alone order delivery unsuspectingly, without a warning… Friends are visitng from D.C. and they were so happy LATE last night to find delivery at Lang’s, so when the food arrived at my door, my schnoz was met with an old famiiar smell that made me ill… and, I knew… Just say no, folks. Call or visit Valley’s on Forest Ave. if you want good chinese eats at a good price, with free delivery — you just can’t go wrong here. Also, I personally appreciate a well-spoken person taking my order on the phone at Valley’s. My one and only disingenuous star for Lang’s is for the rarest of moments when nothing is open, you’re in a blizzard, and you have hungry guests whom have overstayed their welcome — then, call Lang’s. Not really! **Note: I have never written a bad review. Admittedly, there are many GREAT reviews I won’t write either, because I am sorry to say I’m selfish about my secrets(sorry!). However, as a member of this Unilocal family, I do feel obligated to warn you about ordering from Lang’s: If I save even one Unilocaler from a bad experience with Lang’s, I can feel good about sharing my negative opinion of this place.

I got food here a couple years ago, so it’s possible that it’s changed since then, but yikes. I don’t often meet Chinese food that I don’t like, but I will NOT be going back here. The food was flavorless and greasy, and the sweet & sour soup had the consistency of snot.

Lang’s is about the experience. Every city needs a place like Lang’s that offers cheap, satisfying, fast Chinese food prepared by sassy, wrinkled old men with high-waisted pants and inscrutable English. I’ll be honest, Lang’s makes terrible food. I always regret getting food here and regret it for a couple of days afterward – if you catch my drift. The food is always hot, saucy, and fast but the orange chicken doesn’t quite taste like orange chicken, the sesame chicken doesn’t quite taste like sesame chicken, the pork fried rice is just kind of bland. It’s satisfying and pretty cheap, the portions are plentiful, but the taste is less taste-y than I would like. They do boldly declare that they don’t use any MSG in their food and that right there could be the culprit. Anyway, it just isn’t in my top favorite places to get Chinese food in Portland. But I hold a special place in my heart for Lang’s because every visit is an entertainment. If Mr. Lang isn’t yelling at a customer or a revolving cast of employees, he’s hitting on a young blonde college student in a way that somehow isn’t creepy, or he’s fighting in his native tongue with the other Mr. Lang who tirelessly and humorlessly cooks the food in the open kitchen. Last night, for instance, he was berating the extremely funny and good-natured man who took our order. I think I might have laughed the entire time I waited for my food. So, the food may not be the best but you’re getting more than just a meal when you eat here.

Cheap, fast, and greasy. Sure, there’s better Chinese takeout in Portland, but none of it compares to Lang’s when your booze-soaked stomach is craving something a little more solid. Between their late hours and affordable combo specials, Lang’s is the perfect remedy to a night of hard partying.

My band decided to stop in to Lang’s on the way out of Portland after a gig. We arrived shortly after midnight on a Saturday. The restaurant was reasonably clean, and there was no one dining-in at that hour. I ordered the Orange Chicken, a fountain soda, and opted for the .50 cent Egg Drop Soup add-on. An older gentleman behind the counter(possibly even Lang himself) angrily barked at me that it was«Too Late, I Charge You $ 2.50!!» Much to Mr. Lang’s dismay, my two friends also ordered dinner, regrettably inconveniencing him with their money and patronage. After about 10 minutes our food was ready, but it sat under a heat lamp for another 20 while elderly Mr. Lang barked orders at his employees. Finally, once we had been served, we fought through our bland and lukewarm vittles. When I went up to the machine for a refill on my(small) fountain soda, Mr. Lang was waiting to pounce. He crossly informed me that a refill on my soda would be .50 cents, and that he would have to charge me $ 5.00 if I paid with a credit card. I told him that would be fine, and that I’d be sure to review his establishment on Unilocal. Never Again, Lang.

GROSS. The person who had shrimp vomited, the 3 people who had chicken all thought«cat?» Bland, weird, even the egg rolls & spring rolls were inedible. The crab rangoons were fried nicely, but bland, and no crab. Lots of flies. Service/cashier was nice. It was fresh and hot, but 80% of it was thrown away. probably still in business due to unexpecting hotel go-ers near by. If I had more time, I would have brought it back and asked for a refund…(just kidding, I could never do that, but would be really excited if someone else did)

Granted I’ve only had the pleasure of eating here once, I totally don’t regret it & will most certainly do it again. One blustery winter evening in December, my cute ‘lil newlywed booty had the craving for some General Tso’s during our honeymoon.(Since we had like no snow in RI last winter, we went to Maine!) Since Lang’s delivered to our hotel, I figured«why not.» Dude, their General Tso’s is –awesome.- I really loved that there was a good mix of veggies thrown in their for good measure: plus the combos came with two items of your choice plus lo mien or rice. A damn good deal! Usually I tend to shy away from poultry when trying new delivery places since the idea of spending an evening with the porcelain God doesn’t quite appeal to me. but I’m glad I made an exception for Lang. Delivery was prompt, food hot & tasty and the service was especially nice. We appreciate the random discount they gave us after hearing we were on our honeymoon. Next Portland trip, I’ll definitely remember to order again.

I go for the lunch buffet probably once or twice a month. A great deal. A good variety of food prepared in small batches so it is always hot and fresh. Now and then it may be a bit greasy, but usually it is as it should be. Probably different cooks on different days. Many of the buffet dishes contain vegetables, which is one of the attractions for me. The only seafood I’ve seen there has been shrimp, but it is good. Some of the meat items are very good. The beef with broccoli and the chicken with onion are excellent. Chicken wings are good. The orange chicken is weak, but I always take a few pieces for variety. I like that they cut the egg rolls in half; makes it easier to bail the mustard or duck sauce to it. I don’t normally order crab Rangoon when I’m in a restaurant with a menu, but I always take two or three at the buffet and dip them in duck sauce. I find them to be as good or better than in any other Chinese restaurant offers. They don’t seem to put string beans on the buffet very often, but when they do, they are very good. $ 6.45 for all you can eat? I’m surprised they don’t have a line waiting to get in. Probably the unappealing look of the ex-Lisa’s Pizza building. A diamond in the rough.

As my husband Sam S. mentioned in his review, I simploy LOVE this place! Is it for everyone? likely not. Is it high end Chinese food? Likely not. Is it shockingly cheap? Almost. I love the chicken wings and beef teryaki most of all. They also have the only duck sauce I like. I admit the sauce is not made in house, but IDC! I love it anyway. The egg rolls are good. The fried rice is good(beef or pork is preffered.) I’ve had most of the menu over the years. I was if-y about it when it replaced Lisa’s Pizza(whose fries are like crack to me!) but I find it a good, long term place. There is a fair amount of room, though most order take out or delivery. Delivery tastes just as good, but season makes a difference of course. Maine winters are no joke! It’s colder than intended by the time it hits your door. I’m Jewish and many of the«Chinese food on Christmas» jokes are funny to me… mostly cuz they’ve prooven true to some extent. Lang’s was open a full day today. My husband isn’t the devoted fan that I am of Lang’s, but I grew up here. I lived in Maine for 20yrs. He is willing to take me there and let me kill my craving, so that’s enough for me! :)

My wife has an incredible and lasting fondness for Lang’s, however I can’t really say I agree. She grew up in Portland, at one point living 5 minutes away up Congress St. Mostly Lang’s is a delivery/take-out business I think. Even though the dining space is the size of a classroom, most people do not seem to stay to eat. Pluses: it’s very cheap, there are several specials which seem like very good deals, the place seems to be open *all the time* — it was the only place we could count on being open Christmas Day! The staff is friendly, even though as I just mentioned, they had to work on Christmas. My wife loves their beef teriyaki(an appetizer on a stick, I tried it and did think it was good), chicken wings, and fried rice, as well as the duck sauce(though no doubt the sauce is not an in-house thing). From it’s appearance one can’t expect much — both exterior and interior scream«fast food! mcburgertacos!»(my wife says this is an artifact of what had been there before, which she remembers as Lisa’s Pizza) — so my impressions may have contributed to my unsatisfactory experiences, but much of what I’ve had has been mediocore at best and inedible at worst. And I LOVE Chinese food. I’m sure I’ll be back and I’ll see what happens.
